It's that time of the year isn't it? And there's a question that needs answering: which product is the best for removing bugs?
I have a selection of products that can all be used to tackle bug guts. It's not exhaustive by any means, but it does represent a fairly good cross section of what's out there. The following products are included in the test:
- Gyeon Bug and Grime remover
- GTechniq W5 Citrus all purpose cleaner
- Stajnagloss Först
- Bilt Hamber Surfex HD
- Feynlab Rinseless

The more I use Först the more I realise why so many people hold it in high regard, it's very versatile.

Live in the countryside so always on the lookout for a good bug remover. Like you, I'm not keen on spending on dedicated product hence I use Surfex at 10% and does what I need. Was impressed by the Forst in you demo but, have to say, to my eye, it had the least to do with Surfex and Feynlab the most, but it did it very well. Cost will probably rule it out for me. Thanks for doing these real world demos / tests, very informative.

I definitely think cranking up the Surfex will do the job sufficiently well, especially given the cost of an extra product. What I will say is that Forst has a lot of great uses and I find that helps justify the product. Door jams, tyres and fuel filler flaps it's particularly great at!

@@SuperchargedLlama Have to say that your point about lots of uses for Forst kind of works against itself given the price point as in if you use it for lots of stuff you will use a lot of it so will cost a lot compared the competition. If they had a more cost effective non RTU version, it would be more tempting. Not doubting ability but out of my budget. Sufex @ 7.5% is £0.28 per Litre and £0.38 per Litre @ 10% vs Forst @ £6.40 per Litre.

I drove more than half way across the country back in May here in the US and then back again and then some. I bought the Gtechniq W5 for the same reason as here plus I wanted it for other uses. I'm finding similar results. Not really doing much at 10:1, but a little better at 5:1. Next I'll try it "neat" as you guys say there in the UK.

It's a real paint in the ass when you think you've got a dilutable product and then you have use it neat/straight isn't it? Although I suspect the Gteqchniq stuff is good when diluted for other jobs. Först is brilliant, hut because it's RTU (Ready To Use) it does get pricey, given that there's so many uses for it I find I use loads! I saw a review of 3D's bug remover over on Apex Detailing which looked very good....but then you're stuck with a product that, whilst very good, has one use. I think Först is the way forward, but I've got no idea how expensive that is for you in the US? It's about £5 for 1L in the UK, and they do 5L containers too.

Thanks for the video👍. I got a can of Gyeon Bug&Grime and indeed, you'll need more than one application so won't be buying that anymore. Once got a sample of Först and tried it as a pre-wash but it didn't do much😅. Glad it was just a sample. Recently bought 5 litres of Surfex HD and I think I'm better of using that. I'll crank up the dillution rate for getting rid of bugs in summer. I have a feeling that will do the trick 😃. Greetz Will

There's a new version of Först called Först X and that's more concentrated (with the idea being you can dilute it); I would say that with Först it needs to be applied liberally.

I spoke to Shane today when I called in for a few products and mentioned the possibility of some samples for you to review/test , he said for you to get in touch and he will sort some out . I've tried a few products in the HDD range and been pretty impressed and in 5ltr sizes very good vfm.

There's a brand here in Australia (might be in UK) called "bug off". The bugs just melt under it. Used to be called "guts b gone"

Great video idea. Given that a pressure washer alone does a great job of removing the majority of bugs, this test might have been a little more conclusive if you just used a regular hose. Hard to tell if one product had more cleaning power over the other with this method

That's a good point, even taking in to the account that a pressure washer was used, I should have done a control section where it was pressure washer only. Now you mentioned it I can't believe I forgot that 😂

Great idea, very interesting results. I use one I got with my last car ('Dimondbright') and seem to use it more for bird poo than bugs and it works well. Fancy parking a car under a tree for a week to prep for that test? 😂

Way off topic here, trying to recall touch up paint/pens you mentioned in another video was the comapny called paint factory or something along those lines?

I used to use Paints4U, but I've made a change to Paint Gear UK recently, they do far better kits. If I needed a large volume of paint (more than 50ml for example) then I'd still use Paints4U.

Good video. I think a good extra would be adding how much they cost per litre, the way they were used, to help judge the effectiveness vs cost balance. Secondly, Feynlab Pure Rinseless is around pH neutral. Go and try and work that one out!

Best I can tell on dilutions used: Forst @ RTU £32.00/L Surfex @ 7.5% £0.28/L Gyeon @ undiluted £10.75/L Gtechniq @ undiluted £7.57/L Feynlab @ 1:500 £0.04/L

Why you d'ont use the correct product ? For exemple, for Gtechniq it's : W8 BUG REMOVER and not the W5 APC.

Because you can use W5 for it and I had that in the sample kit from Gteqchniq (and many people say "just use a citrus"). Plus the Gyeon product kinda covered the dedicated product (different brand of course and that is potentially comparing apples with oranges).

Zero Decon shampoo? It was pointed out to me afterwards that this was an option but I've got some more bugs on the car atm (not many but a little bit) and I could compare them 👍
