I recorded this beautiful blue Bugatti Type 35 B during Concours d'Elegance Antwerp. It was the most successful of the Bugatti racing models. The Type 35B featured a roots type supercharger. The final version of the Type 35 series was the Type 35B of 1927. Originally named Type 35TC, it shared the 2.3 L engine of the Type 35T but added a large supercharger like the Type 35C. Output is 175 hp (126 kW) with upgraded compressor and 45 examples were made. A Type 35B won the 1929 French Grand Prix.
Thanks for watching and feel free to leave a comment behind.

I have this car in forza Horizon 4 but this is not why I am here. Once I seen it in the game I remembered I use to check out race car books at the library in grade school and there was always pictures of the 35. Amazing car. Wonder exhaust note also.

By the sound of this engine it is clear that they new how to build engines long long ago. This being double overhead cam eight cylinder engine with much power, and under 800kg car, if they figured the handling at that time this would be a monster! Very nice sound.

175hp from a 2.3L wouldn't be too shabby even today, though we likely wouldn't need a supercharger for it any more. That much power in something as small, light and flimsy as that, on what are essentially bike tyres, with (rear-wheel-only?) drum brakes must be terrifying. And spectacular all-round in the 1920s. Sounds like an angry lion with a thorn in its paw too. Fantastic.

all 4 wheels brake, what you saw is the hand brake
@wysiwyg2489
@wysiwyg2489 10 месяцев назад
It was more like 140hp, the drum brakes were integrated into the wheels. During racing, when you stop to replace the wheels, you were also replacing the brakes.

I believe a lot of the cars of that era had that positive camber so they could steer the car. Remember, manual steering. Imagine muscling those beasts at speed. If you draw a line between the tire contact patch and the axis of steering rotation ( king pin in this case ), the tire pivots around a point instead of moving in an arc ( if the wheels were vertical )

As I understand it from a 1991 magazine article, you can tell a real Bugatti engine from one that was recently CNC machined by the brazings of the accidental holes drilled in the blocks when the French machinists using their worn out manual mills could not hold the tolerances and had to go back and correct their mistakes. I'd like to see what one of these engines would do if they could hold the tolerances of modern CNC machining centers, use better metals and incorporate modern advances in engi

More 1920s, as the gauges would not look out of place in a WWI Biplane, but the machine turned aluminium dash nods toward the begginings of the Art Deco movement. By the 1940s, aircraft cocpits were nearly all white on black gauges on black painted panels. Sorry.

A guy in California was showing off in his 1927 Delarge, and he put a wheel in a puddle and saw the revs race up to 9,300rpm. In a panic he went searching for bent valves etc. He phoned an old guy in France who said, 'We used to race them at 10,000rpm. Don't worry about it.'

@paulstandeven8572
@paulstandeven8572 8 лет назад
Not going fast enough in a car-park to justify a change up. It's a highly tuned race engine, giving much more power than they did when new. In danger of oiling spark plugs.... Nothing wrong with a Bugatti gear change

I suspect no first/reverse gear synchro. You can down shift into first by engine speed matching. I think.

Are you sure it's because of the steering resistance? I don't think that steering it would be a problem - doesn't weigh much and probably doesn't have that much caster or an insane steering ratio or anything. I think that era of tyres might actually respond to camber geometry like that, unlike a modern radial tyre.

Yeah but it doesn't sound like a V8 because it doesn't have a cross flow crank, it doesn't have that V8 blurb. It sounds like 8 cylinders yes, but it sounds more like a straight 6 with a couple of extra cylinders than a V8.

The related video at the end ( 3.07) is NOT a type 44 Bugatti, it's not even a Bugatti. The radiator is wrong. the Type 44 has an upright horseshoe radiator not a sloping radiator with a vertical bar. .Tthe front axle geometry is wrong, and it certainly doesn't sound like one. Looks more like an early Triumph Gloria ( c 1935) or Hillman Tourer.

@TheWierdFish
@TheWierdFish 12 лет назад
I've only ever had the pleasure of seeing one T35 in the metal and let me tell you, this video, while impressive enough, does no justice to the sound that is spat from that fantastic straight eight. This is a car you hear long before you see it. However, that one was most definately a crank start (I know it was, because they aren't exactly as easy to crank as they look and, being newly rebuilt, it kept stalling) My question is, was the electric starter an original option, or was it added later?

It's a replica, a Pursang build car from Argentina, it's got no roller bearing crankshaft, it's to high on its front wheels and it doesn't drive like the real thing. it's sad that there are already many around and all running poorly, because the mechanics aren't precise enough.

for more than 20 years i have been around Bugatti's, i am awake and it is a replica, 100%. And when vital parts break down, real 35B owners go to brineton engineering for parts those are the best parts. I can tell from a distance this is a pursang. and if the pursang guys are so great why are the making the alloy wheels wrong, whats up with that? Real 35B wheels got a little bend in the blades, for air cooling those drums and i could go on... Believe me, the real deal sounds even better...
