6 month build 180 hp CBR1000RR powered 19" travel 95mph in 2nd gear. -36" king front shocks -2006 CBR 1000 fuel injected engine -N14 series PTO slip yokes for the drive line
Looks like a sweet build, I am planning on doing a one or two seater mini sand rail to drag race at the dunes. I found a 280hp @ 10,000rpm 1000cc two stroke engine that weighs less than 100Ibs all set up for a centrifugal clutch. As long as I can keep my build close to 1000Ibs there should be nothing at the dunes that can keep up.
4.05-4.24 Impressive drive-shaft arrangement, I'm building two rails/buggys with students at a uk college (high-school), and due to budgetary constraints we have been forced to use cv joints/tripod joints from a front wheel drive car. The plunge of the tripod joints is the major constraint to suspension travel. we have double a-arm rear suspension too, so the wheels traverse an arc in motion that reduces driveshaft plunge, but compromises grip/stability. Your trailing arms are much better.
I'm tellin you man, making these video's give's sooo many people hope of building something like this. I'm betting your a lot of people's hero right now. Right on, fantastic job. (*****)
Nevermind , found the answer in the comments ..... I have been looking at building something with the old ZX9-RR I have .. Go Karts have been on the top of the list but now I have no idea ..... This thing is just wicked .....
They are N14 slip yokes used for a PTO They come in a 4' length off the internet or any farm store. I had to grind the welds out cut them down to size and re weld them. It worked great with no problems. a good alternative over a $2000.00 cv jointset up
@01jeepgcIve seen a reverse gear for projects like sportbike engined cars, their rated up to 500hp and run around 1k, but you can also run 6 gears in reverse!
i was wondering what kind of heim joints those are on the front end, the heims located right on the wheel hub assembly, and did those heims give you enough turning degrees?
N14 u-joints and slip yokes go to any farm store and you can order them. I had to cut them down to size they come 4' long. But they are unbreakable!!!!
@gavenschwarze1 toyota car axles are pretty the standard for this sort of thing. Much less weight than the driveshaft setup seen on this car, and MUCH better angle out of the cv's single ujoint setup is not at all ideal, and you dont get much angle out of before they bind. 930's are the way too go, but pricey esp once u get into hubs and stuff. Just take the rear end out of a old supra. diff, cv axles, hubs everything you need right there. extend the axles with tubing.
lovin it...and the fat boy ...my old man has the same one....just that you probably ride it...he only has 1700miles on it one question tho---i am planning on building something similar, how dificult was it to wire all the electronics and stuff?
@01jeepgc if you dont want to spend a butt ton of money on a reversing gear box {quaife etc} get the primary chain reversing setup off a snow mobile. easy peasy! cheap too. Just need to do a little mods, nothing big.
how much space did you leave for the motor im going to start my build on a dirt buggy with a cbr1000 but gong to make the frame first thanks Lenght width and height thanks
what type of tie rod end are you using on the front knuckle? I'm currently building a cbr 600 rail and that rod end with the wide range of motion would come in handy.
+Vicente Islas pillow block bearing, keyed shaft and a custom plasma cut sprocket to fit a atv hub then bolted on N14 PTO U joint slip shafts or you can buy a CV set up but you ar talking $4000-+ for a reverse box and axles and hubs
NICE BUILD! Saw the ohio plate in tool box. Nice to see some more ohio boys with sand capable toys! Check out centerburg sand on youtube. We go up about 4 times a year.
Bad content what’s the point in loads of pictures with a song that don’t even match the video why not record building the buggy talking people through everything your doing to build it may help alott of people
