Stumpy Nubs presents great useful content without any ego or unnecessary flashiness and for that reason he is the go to guy to actually learn stuff about woodwork. Stumpy, YOU ROCK. Cheers from Perth Western Australia.
I bought the plans, they are precise and fool-proof, I recommend them. I translated Your strange numbers to metric understandable measures : ) and modified a bit here and there. Thank You ! For creating small circles on the sled without endangering Your stumpy nubs, You could use a small sanding pad attached to a handheld drill to rotate the piece from above.
James this is. Truly cool I'm not sure I will have a need for this. But thankfully I know it's there but I'm still pulling apart pallets and have 5 things I have already bought from you. But this looks. Outstanding
Your a master professional. They nead a new name for someone like you in the dictionary possibly an amalgamation of Leanardo De Vinci & Archimeades. Or if Leo and Archy had a child lol I love jokes and interesting intelligence well done Mr Nubs 😊😊😊❤
I just downloaded the plans for this... mostly pretty clear, but I don't understand why part "e" has a tapered end, and the opposing part (f) does not. Also... when the instructions indicate a part is to be attached, is is simply glued to the base, or are screws/brads also advised. Finally, can I substitute 1/4" plywood for the MDF base? Thanks.
Stumbled upon this video searching for others running a coping sled against the main fence, using tabs. Thanks for great ideas. But; that thin base must surely bend from the toggle clamp pressure,..?
I've been going by my real name for about two years now in everything but the video introductions. When I teach or write or do public events, etc. So I figured why not in the video intros too? But it's not an official thing. You can still call me Stumpy :)
+Stumpy Nubs (James Hamilton) my apologies. I totally understand. When peoples frail emotions are at stake let us all tread lightly and be sensitive to our delicate snowflakes on RU-vid. Lol!
I bought the plans and am laying it out on the 1/4" MDF. The only measurement I cannot see is in the small parts area. Looking at the plans, I see the left and right 'tabs' are 2 3/4" wide and the gap between those tabs is 12 1/2" long. The measurement that I cannot find if the depth of those tabs. Sorry if my text is not completely clear - sending a picture with a circle around area I am talking would be so much easier...). Thanks for the sled and your help!
The measurement for the cutout on the right of the dimensional drawing is written on the other side of the lower right tab. It is 2-inches. The top and left ones do not matter, but I made them 2-inches (top cutout) and 1-inch (bottom cutout). Sorry for the confusion.
@@StumpyNubs I just purchased the plan too and had the very same question. I would suggest you update the plans accordingly as I’m sure others have the same issue. BTW, I also found a couple typos…
Suggestion: when dimensioning fabrication drawings, include a separate dimension for EVERY element. It's not convenient to allow "derived" dimensions (like, on the jig, the tabs that match against the fence). While it may be true that you can derive the dimensions by subtracting sub-sections from the overall dimension, it is a courtesy to simply show the dimension. Some CAD software will even back-check individual element dimensioning to insure the overall is correct, too.
Bought the plans & made the sled. However, noticed one (1) error & one (1) omission. Error: the distance from the bottom of the sled to the holes on part “G” should be 4-3/8” NOT 3-7/8”. (Clearly not sure why no one else picked up on this. Omission: the width of the opening below & between parts “A3” & “A4” is (apparently 1”. Otherwise thank you for your always informative tips & methods.
if you want max cut depth it could be 1mm metal or 2mm Al Alloy with either clinched or welded threaded studs and why not bent guides (instead of wood blocks). But it goes a tad out of what we can usually build in a wood workshop. somewhat the same goes with the (custom i guess) router table base.
Hi, I came across this wonderful multi sled and wanted to make it myself, but somehow the link underneath the video doesn't link to a page anymore. Can someone help me get these detailed plans?
this one is only 5$. worths it if you plan to build the exact same. does not if you are making big changes. the expensive thing (function, build) is kindly given (almost) free here on youtube ;)
No, sorry, it doesn't work. Finished mine today and when you apply clamp force to block the small part, everything becames a bowl... Carmonius (below in the comments) noticed. I should have heard him. I'll try putting some screws in the underside, so by by to the other functions.
