It's really quality stuff, each bit designed/drafted for perfection ru-vid.comUgkx5WQ3WP9ku9goJTCwWiteQ2BfbhKsH_vl Chairs that are comfortable as heck, but would also probably last generations and all sorts of abuse, not that I'm going to put it through that. Everything about this chair is pleasant, the only thing I'd make a note of is that the low back may be an issue for some. For me, it's comfy and sits just right.

I would recommend flipping the bolt for the front leg and vertical arm support so that the nut is on the outside of the chair. That way it is under the arm and not sticking out in the seating area. This will keep it from scratching anyone getting in or out of the chair. Great build by the way. I have always loved this type of chair.

I just want to give a little testament to customer service. I ordered the set of templates last Sunday. They were shipped Monday and I received them today. Thank you very much Miss April. I’ve been a fan of yours for several years now but the extremely fast Order processing and delivery was impressive. The quality of the templates is spot on. I can’t wait to get started. Going to be making a set for my boss out of Eastern red Cedar

Very nice especially with the white paint! Back in the mid 90s in RI I was making a bunch of Adirondack chairs, loveseats and footrests and even a couple swings sold to my friends, neighbors, coworkers and my boss. They loved them! Well last year I drove back to RI to visit family and tracked down my old boss who retired. He was surprised to hear from me after so long and said that he was thinking of me when I called because he just sat down on a chair I built him 25 years ago. It still stands! I think I may build some more here in WI. I like the folding idea. Even with nice white paint the birds will still poop on them. Folding them up and putting them away solves that problem.

I like your design, with one exception. Having built many Adirondack Chairs, mostly following the New Yankee Workshop plans, I found it necessary to install a cross piece between the rear legs, roughly below the seat back, to keep the rear legs from twisting if in use on side sloped ground. This one added brace didn't add much to the chair weight and added considerable strength and twist resistance. I now do this as part of the build of every chair. I also use construction cement on all joints, but of course not on the pivoting parts of your chair. I have been using rust resistant screws and bolts as well. Stainless is great, if you can find it, but the coated screws for deck use are good too. If the chairs will never be left out in the rain, it doesn't matter what gets used, but rain and the wood treating chemicals are hard on regular steel screws. Rust stains on the lighter colored paint looks bad too.
@bernieparent9517
@bernieparent9517 4 года назад
Do you have a pic of your chair with the brace. You should post one.
@charleyl264
@charleyl264 4 года назад
@@bernieparent9517 Sorry, no pictures of it. I have no way of posting it on line or RU-vid anyway. The brace is just a board the width of the space between the rear chair legs placed roughly below the seat back and secured in place with several screws through the legs into it, much like boxing between floor joists for improved floor stability.

I too noticed that it looked like the screws holding on the back were just standard drywall screws which to me is a bit NO NO for outdoor furnature but it would last a few years before it rusted thru. You could say I had some experience someone in my family assembled some chairs like this drywall screws. They didn't last too long.

Good call on the 5/4 board I use it to rebuild all the benches my wife has. You have to cut down the very ends to into fit the steel end frames but they are way more sturdy and last years longer.

Made some cedar adirondacks using the paper templates last week. Turned out great. To items you may make note of on your instructions.. You may make note if people use 3/4" material like in my case Cedar 3/4 boards. The length of the bolts will change to 2" in lieu of 2-1/2". Teen I also used 2 bolts in lieu of lags due to board width. Other than that all went well. Thank you.

I’ve made 4 ADK chairs from a template I got at the summer camp I worked at. Each time assembly was challenging due to the back supports not seating against the back slats evenly. Also my work surface was not very level at camp.

Awesome video. I looked at the plans for many different variations of the folding chair, and I liked this one the best, ordered the MDF templates (which are awesome, albeit a bit fragile - these are going to get transferred to plywood I think), and created a gorgeous version in 15/16" teak. Well made video, and awesome PDF instructions with the templates. The only real changes I made were to also glue up the connecting pieces, and I didn't want screw holes in the arms so I glued up the arm supports with 1/4" dowels on a 4" spacing for strength. Thanks for the inspiration and for my new favorite piece of outdoor furniture

Hey Mark! Quick question. On the cut list the two rectangular pivot parts that go on the back of the chair are listed at 6 1/8" long.. They are located at the bottom right of the diagram page 10 on the pdf....Do you know how tall they are?.. Its the only dimension not listed on the plan. Thanks!
@markwebb7667
@markwebb7667 3 года назад
@@aaronmalone4540 I found that it doesn't actually matter (too much) as its simply a connector piece between two pivot points and just needs to be able to handle the forces without splitting. I went with 1 3/4" high as a) that could be cut from scraps I had b) looks good aesthetically and c) was thick enough to not split even with lengthwise grain
