Great to see you back on RU-vid . Good luck with your Captain's test. I love the laser wood burner. When I did the woodburning on the Ukulele case for the ukulele I sent to you I did it with a woodburning iron by hand. It only takes a few hours that way, but the laser sure does a nice job. I hope no boats gets a flat tire from all of those nails you've been shooting over the side... :)

Haha, the fog was thick!! I love that, especially when the sun breaks through,(as it burns off)! You should leave an air tag on the bridge. That way, you can easily find a seeker through the fog with your dingy. I use an air tag to find the car in the mall parking lot.

Well done--the difference in the shop/cargo hold area between my visit last year and getting to see the completed setup is amazing! Lots of planning on how the whole system locks into the deck framing below. (And thanks for the clip of my little boat--I figure that's the smallest theoretical DIY sailboat next to the largest)

I bought a bolt kit when I was 25 years old. I'm 69 now and still have about half of them. I have stashed all in a bunch of plastic boxes that are the same size and easy to organize. I use the plastic bag method when I'm dismantling something complicated and need all the bolts in the right place for reassembly.

Hey Doug... Almost a captain! You are a great instructor, and inspiration! Please help me squash the idea of "Right of Way" with recreational boaters. The Rules of the Road describes vessels as those who must " keep of the way" and/or "stand on" in crossing, overtaking and passing situations. All vessels have specific duties in all these situations. The words "Right of way" I find only in Rule 9, Narrow Channels. " A vessel.....downbound with a following current, shall have the right of way." This applies in the Great Lakes and Western Rivers" You correctly cited rule 9 about the CG and the barge. Bravo Zulu, thank you. Wave as you pass me on the SF Bay.

Those look amazing! I would consider getting/making a clamp or strap system to keep the boxes from tumbling off of each other in rough seas. Probably some bunjie cords and pad eyes or D rings screwed to the boxes would do it and allow for plenty of flexibility/ adjustment. Could secure the lids with a toggle pin thru the side trim, easily removed and reasonably secure.

The big box you applied fibre-glass to reminds me of the tea chests we used when I was a kid to pack all our stuff into when we moved from the UK to Canada in 1967. Fab work, Doug. Love the boxes and the etchings. Both are a great message to re-use and recycle, plus they are very handy. Like the system and I expect you can more easily 'secure for sea' now too. I did wonder whether a thin coat of yacht varnish might help (inside and out), but it'd be a lot more work and time. Maybe you'll get Adam Savage re-organising his cave in the same way now? Didn't know you'd hooked up with Abom79. His work is soo good. I built a big box for my mitre saw a few years ago but I never use it as it means putting the saw away, which discourages using it. I'll have to send a picture or two for your outro with the message not to build one like it.

@SVSeeker
@SVSeeker 5 месяцев назад
It depends on what you want to count. Somewhere north of $450K. But it does not matter at all. If it was $10K or $10M, I put everything I have into this project. The rewards in friends, experiences, education, skills, and pride are far beyond any dollar value. The worst thing you can do in this short life is die friendless, having achieved nothing, ignorant, without skills, and full of regret.
