My build of the Airblade Transformer 4 inch micro long range frame with 1404 2500kv Airblade motors, Jhemcu 25A Toothpick style F411 AIO FC, TBS Unify Pro 5V VTX, Crossfire Nano RX SE, TBS M8 GPS, and Flywoo Atomic SMA antenna. Very comparable to the Flywoo Explorer LR but with better components and quality control lol.

I'm building the same chassis up with caddx Vista, BetaFPV 35A and 4850's. I'm pumped because I've read and hear that this chassis flies well. :)

4850kv is gonna be a freestyle beast on this Transformer mini frame. Been testing higher kv up to 4600kv and will have another Transformer build video up

I would love to know the max range of this Crossfire setup. I just ordered a flywoo explorer with it and would love to get a couple miles out. But I think without an elevated transmitting point I'll be limited.

Nice build :) Would you mind doing a soft serial setup for the builders out there? I have a FC with only 2 UARTs and honestly don't know how to do that. Thanks!!

Thanks. The issue with a soft serial setup guide video is that its not uniform amongst FCs. Some FCs allow it on almost any pin/pad and some don’t. Some FCs let you enable SS but in practice it glitches/freezes/fails. For this build I resourced the LED pad to be Smart Audio settings control for the TBS Unify VTX cause you ain’t changing channels or power levels mid-flight. I’ll try to cover it further in upcoming build, and for now, I’d refer you to the great Oscar Liang guide: oscarliang.com/betaflight-soft-serial/

So if I swap the Caddx ant with a runcam split, I can record 720p with 1100mAh and still be sub-250gr? 😁

I've got a question that may have a complicated answer: why was your rssi so low while the LQ was barely depleted at all? I've got a CRSF coming soon, if I were to have either lq or rssi in my osd, which one would you recommend? Thank you!

Good question and its why I put both RSSI and LQ in the osd on this video. RSSI includes a lot of RF noise which can incorrectly worry many pilots, but is a decent measure of the RF interference. LQ is basically the actual data packet loss of the link. On CRSF 915mhz you can see that the LQ is always well above 100 so its at least 50hz latency mode which is solid. I would turn around if LQ dipped below say 80 when you get down to 4hz mode. RSSI can be deceiving, like on R9 I regularly fly under RSSI 40 still pushing out more km and never failsafe.

Are you flying 4s exclusively then ? what kind of flight times do you get from the 850 & 1100 mah? I'm trying to decide if I want to use the 3850kv motors with 3s.

I fly 3S and 4S and needless to say 3S on 2500kv did not perform well. My 3850kv DJI build does better with 3S but the added weight of the Vista works against it. 4S 850 is 8-10 minutes light freestyle, a bit longer on cruising depending on winds. 4S 1100mah is the way to go imho as the packs are lighter and if you fly down to 3.5v or lower you can get about 15 minutes.

Great video. I have some 1404 5000kv motors from diatone that were meant for a different build but won't fit that frame, so I was thinking of running those on this frame. If I'm not super worried about getting the longest flights, do you think these should still perform OK on 3s? Got several 650-850mah 3s packs and I'd be ok with 4-6 minutes. Thanks!

Yes, 3S should work well for you. Those motors have a 12x12mm mounting pattern which I’m not 100% sure is compatible with the Transformer Mini frame. Check with Airblade. Here is a MLR build with those motors on 3S getting 22minutes flights with Li-Ion: rotorbuilds.com/build/24537

@@m2kfpv449 yep I did just verify it's got both 9x9 and 12x12 patterns. I will be running this with a tarsier. We shall see how it goes! Lol. Thanks for the reply. Should be pretty peppy on 3s and a rocket on 4s if for some reason I wanted that.. Lol.

How much was the total cost of the build? If would be nice if they had more uarts as to not need to use soft serial. The weight looks good. Did you change it the vtx on the Flywoo? I'm still waiting for my explorer lr repair. I've tried to get flywoo to respond on the status. It takes them a few tries to get a response from them as noted from previous times Ive tried. I'm looking into the diatone version as it has more uarts though it cost more.

Good question. Total cost of this Transformer build is about $225 retail cost. Soft serial works ok for most applications but if I’m risking a glitch or failure I’d rather it be on smart audio vtx settings control than on gps, rx, or vista. I’ll be posting a final review of the Flywoo Explorer LR soon as there are more issues to discuss. Diatone makes great bnf models and are usually well thought out with plenty of extra goodies included. Keep us posted.
