Fix My Flywoo - Part 1 VTX and GPS mods for Flywoo Explorer LR 

I contacted Flywoo, they're sending me an actual Goku vtx for free. I soldered the PandaRC VTX in the correct way while I'm waiting, lo and behold, it works. Now I have a TBS Unify32 HV to build something around, it's too large to fit in this frame. Great tips, I used shrink tube on the gps wires and I'm pulling 3-4 satellites inside my house plugged into BF.

I just wanted to post big THANK YOU for helping me to solve my GPS long fix issue. On my HGLRC m80pro on iflight Nazgul5 it took 4 min to get a fix with max of 5 sats. Inspired by your movie, I have used heatshrink to isolate wires from fc to gps. GPS fix now takes 20sec with 12 sats! I owe you one! PS I also have flywoo explorer v2 and they got the vtx and gps fixed (fix in less than 1 min)

I used the housing off an old circular antenna to mount the GPS up high. It worked!

Just been down at the beach flying my Flywoo..... Loven it mate. Hope yours is sorted!

Make sure your wires are connected to the VTX correctly or not connected at all. I think they got behind and hired UPS shipping Monkeys or were just too tired to notice. I commented before seeing the video and this is an absolute great video and ty as I'm sure many novices bought this quad.

Wow, I have just looked at my Explr lr and the the power is connected to the 5v out, and not getting power from the battery pad. But still works fine..... I've yet to fly this bird but had it now for over a month, was too busy and had it set up on my Taranis and CRSF all that good stuff, everything working fine, waiting for the weather. Come across your video and now it seems the first FPV test flight will have to wait ! Thanks for the tips!

I first shielded my wires helped a lil. Also kept cell phone and gopro away till got gps. Then I upgraded to gps v2 and upgraded camera and vtx to ratel 2 and lumineer 800mw

I recieved my explorer analog today. 5 min later youtube recommended your video. I unpacked the explorer, turned it upside down and YES!!! The vtx is powered to the 5v out pad of the vtx! Thank you!!!!

I think they fixed this. Bought mine 1 month ago and have had zero issues with the flywoo

im so glad i got my deposit back for this and built my own.

I finally got the explorer analog back from Flywoo. They had replaced the vtx to one that has 600 mw which is so cool. I did a Los flight once n no more strange motor surges that I had before. I see what you mean with the sats taking forever. They returned it with the v1 though they had come out with the v2. I noticed they covered the wires with copper. I think it's interesting how much better it aquired with shrink tubing installed for you. I'll try that.

It's pretty common to back-feed the 5v rail of a FC if the 5v regulator fails. The 5v regulator is non-functional and 5v input from the external regulator feeds the 5v rail and powers the system. It seems like that's what Flywoo is doing with the Pandarc vTX. Since the vBat is not connected, the 5v regulator is not powered up and the 5v pad is used as an input from the 5v regulator on the FC. I have no idea WHY they chose to do this but I don't see any reason why it would not work. Maybe Flywoo doesn't trust the built-in regulator on the PandaRC?

Hi, Would you be able to draw or take pictures of the connections to the tramp nano vtx to the flywoo explorer lr analog version 2. I have a run cam split 2 as a camera but I'm kinda confused on the vtx to fc wiring...? Anything helps please thank you in advance...

Got my Explorer 1 Month ago and had issues with the gps from the beginning. Dead on arrival :) Got a replacement but didn't get it to work. Meanwhile I replaced it with a Beitian BN220 gps module and this worked out for me from the start. u only need to change + and - from the plug, because the beitian module has a changed power input.

I have the same problem with my flywoo. So do I solder to the positive lead of lipo wire where connects to esc board

I have the Flywoo Explorer LR4 V2.2 analog. Would the Foxeer Reaper Extreme VTX fit the drone or is it too big? Thank you.

I think I’m going to replace the vtx on my v2 when it gets here with the tbs sixty9 and just have a vtx and crossfire all in one with up to one watt

M2K I have some question (sory for my language level) on your Ports 8:04 you have VTX on the UART2, but on my explorer they use softserial for VTX and GPS on the uart2, uart1 for receiver. I have FC v2.1 and the oryginal goku vtx (triangel) should I be worried (maybe resolder them) or will it work ok? Still waiting for my goggles and cant test it out.

Question for M2K FPV. I have the shield fpv antennas on my DJI google i have them on both sides. I see you you run the shields on one side of your goggles. why don't you run both sides with the shields is there an advantage . I planning on doing long distance fpv. what other antenna are you using?.....Thanks

I got the same VTX yet I am getting a ton of static. How did you mount the vtx to the 20x20 board?

I just range tested the ImmersionRC Tramp Nano vtx on the Flywoo Explorer and got out a distance of 8km (using the Aomway 7 turn helical antenna on EV800d goggles). The furthest I got with the Panda RC vtx was a little over 6km (4 miles).

U mentioned Tasier v2 and issues with GPS. I think I "fixed" mine (on a different build) by using the Mamba interface shield and grounding to AGND on camera board. Stuck the shield right on top. I don't have great reception where I live but I went from never locking to a 5 sat lock fairly quickly. Any chance u could comment on how u fixed yours? I doubt the kapton tape is doing much....

What a complete miss on Flywoo's part. I have the V2 version.............exact same problem with NOT wiring the VTX to VBAT connection. I originally thought the unit was defective, just defectively wired. Thanks for the information.

Thanks, strangely my analogue vtx was transmitting with the incorrect wiring. Rewired now, I'm getting a good satellite fix on mine indoors (UK South Coast). Not actually been out to fly yet.

Does anyone know where I can find stock cli dump for analog version . My motors start spazzing out after I got over 20% throttle and then my throttle does nothing and motors spin on their own. Any help would be appreciated.

Are you able to go into a little more detail on how to mount the vtx to the mount ? I am sorry I am new to this and don’t want to ruin my new Vtx. I didn’t quite understand how to do it by the other comment you left.

idle time on the ground is a real problem... the newer versions of this quad with HD systems will overheat long before they acquire satellite lock. shielding those wires helps, but the new HD systems also make WAY more interference than a analog vtx.

Isn't all this fixed with the new version 2?

What about connecting 5V to the Vin on the Panda vtx? I tried it and it gives a picture but I have no gear to measure the output power.

Hello MK2 can you send a dump file of the analog version i can seem to get the soft serial working after i replaced the vtx

All I did was swap the positive and negative on the GPS connector. Removed that crap gps. Installed a bn180, now I get lock within 30seconds. No change in wiring, besides the switching of positive and negative. Changed to ublox in bf, I also changed gps to 57600baud. Working like a charm. I swear the gps that come with them are not tuned. Mine had no tuning marks at all. Ive also tried a tbs gps cause it had the same pinout, same results. Only thing that works for good, is a bn180 on ublox.

haven't flight mine yet and its good that I found this video before it's maiden fly because my vtx has also wrong wiring. So, where exactly I have to resolder the red wire on the FC? directly to the positive pad for the battery possitive wire?

When I got the flywoo lr back I had trouble getting the osd to come up on my goggles. It was showing a black screen. I contacted flywoo and sent picks for it. But after looking over the beta flight it started working so I thought it was fixed. Now its back. I was going to fly it fpv today. I am so not happy with this. Im not sending it back again. I might get the irc vtx you recommend. Though Im having trouble finding one in stock. Getfpv has one backordered. Any ideas?

Well I got my Tramp nano and installed it, and I connected the battery and it smoked. Not sure what was up. Everything was double checked and triple checked even. The only thing I can think of was the soldering the vtx to the outer part got too much solder. I didnt think I got alot but that is the only thing other that a faulty part. This drone has been nothing but jinx. Flywoo is sending me another control board. Guess Ill try that before I retire this thing. BTW the vtx in the there was the panda.

Could you show a picture of the wires and where they connect I am going to use this board "because of you" and I'm still really new

I have the V2/600mw version. I can change channels by button on the vtx, but Tramp and betaflight isn't changing the channels.

I ordered my dji version when it first came out and still waiting.

Replace gps with a tbs mn8 ublox. The nmea Gps on these are a joke. A get 13 says in a min or 2.

So you're saying Flywoo doesn't test their shit before sending it out? Color me surprised...

People tell you if you can't or don't want to solder just buy a BNF. Then your un into this kind of hell in this video right off the bat out of the box. I sold all my RC hobby lies on ebay, and now just fly the sim stress free. Can you imagine if you just bought a bought new car and had to do this kind of diagnosis and hardware teardown as soon as you got it home? You'd take it straight back to the dealership and demand your money back. A lot of us can't do all that stuff you show in the video because we're just not that adept at working with little unlabeled fiddly bit stuff. It's all Greek to us, like you taking apart a microwave and trying to figure out how it works. Just draw a blank. So this stuff ends up in a tub of junk electronics in the closet never to be used again and you're out liek a lot of money. I can't work with this kind of stuff any more, it makes me very upset.

How is this even slightly ok? people should be spitting feathers over something as simple as incorrect wiring! like wtf? NO NO and FK NO! buy this, solder that! No, Flywoo - sort your life out! can’t keep riding on the plus points for long, they’ll be left in the dust by people who can at least get simple wiring right! Very disappointed fan ☹️
