Craft on a $5.00 a week Budget :) Each week I will be creating a craft project with only the items we have purchased for this series :)Thank you for watching and I hope you all have an Outstanding Day :) amy
I had to stop installing ceramic tile &c., due to arthritis showing up in my hands at age 28. This helps me to be able to make paper beads without stressing my already troubled knuckles and joints. Thanks.
Im getting excited. I saw your remark about crafting on 5 dollars a week. Im 70, retired, of cours on a fixed income so i need a hobby i can do that wont cost much. I knit and thats not cheap for many many projects so this is wonderful. Thank you so much. I will make this tool. Makin beads for selling at craft fairs in bracelets i created is what i want to do. I love making things with my hands and gettin a relaxing time during the crafting
Hello :) Thank you for the sweet comment :) I am glad you are enjoying the series :) If you start at the beginning, you will be able to get all of the things we have in our stash :) I have people at all different parts of the series, and they are still having fun :) We do spend more than $5 sometimes, but only if we have saved up that much from weeks before :) tfw, and I hope you have an Outstanding Day :) amy
It's really helpful. I'm going to try this one as well. I tried one with a paper handle and one with a dowel. What amazed me with this one is, it's got the pins on both ends and I love it. Thank u. 👍
I recently had carpal tunnel release surgery on my left hand and this coming Friday I will have the right hand done. This bead roller will help me a lot as my grip will not be as good for a little while. Thank you so much for this tutorial and all the rest of them. You have been a true money saver for all of us who are on limited incomes. Thank you so much!
Hello Bobbi :) Thank you for the sweet comment :) I am sure you will feel alot better rolling with a large handle, but just don't over do it, you want to be able to craft on for a long time with stronger wrists :) tfw, and I hope you have an Outstanding Day :) amy
Hello Leslie :) Thank you for the sweet comment :) I have used cotter keys for a long time, but I saw Sonya show a bead roller that her friend made her, and that is where the idea for the handle came from :) tfw, and I hope you have an Outstanding Day :) amy
Hello Donna :) Thank you for the sweet comment :) I am so happy you are enjoying the Build your stash series :) tfw, and I hope you have an Outstanding Day :) amy
Such a great idea to make my own bead roller! Thank you for sharing your GREAT ideas with us Amy! I think I may take up bead rolling after I make a few bead rollers!
Hello Roberta :) Thank you for the sweet comment :) I have to warn you, bead making is Very addicting, lol :) I have even rolled some beads out of napkins in the car while I was waiting for my hubby to come out of the store, lol :) tfw, and I hope you have an Outstanding Day :) amy
Hello River :) Thank You for your sweet comment :) These bead rollers work really well, I hope you have fun with yours :) tfw, and I hope you have an Outstanding Day :) amy
Hello Clara :) Thank you for the sweet comment :) I hope you enjoy making yours, and have lots of fun making your own hand made beads :) tfw, and I hope you have an Outstanding Day :) amy

Hello Maria :) Thank you for the sweet comment :) Stay home until things get better, then you can go to Walmart :) Stay Safe :) tfw, and I hope you have an Outstanding Day :) amy
Hello Mari :) Thank you for the sweet comment :) I saw this on Sonya's channel, a friend of hers made her one, and I couldn't remember where I saw it :) Sonya was just telling me about hers when it dawned on me that it was her video, and not a tutorial where I saw it :) tfw, and I hope you have an Outstanding Day :) amy
Clever idea I've been making paper beads for abt 7 yrs now nd also bought a set of the roller tools when I started I've now misplaced my fav size ... so I will give this one you made a go thnx for sharing 👍
Hello Susuko :) Thank you for the sweet comment :) Yes, the store bought ones are quite expensive, and I haven't found one with a large handle like this, which helps my hands not hurt after making a lot of beads :) tfw, and I hope you have an Outstanding Day :) amy
@@aljohn yes after a few hours your hands will ache and this large handle will help. Im so,pleased to make this so inexpensively. Rock on great crafter
Thank you for the sweet comment :) I love seeing things in other things, it is kind of like seeing shapes in the clouds :) tfw, and I hope you have an Outstanding Day :) amy
Thank You, Thank You, I have wanted to get into bead rolling. But I didn’t want to pay the high price for one. Excited to make my own bead roller. Love your channel ❤️
Thank you for the sweet comment :) This is a perfect way to have many size holes at such a cheap price :) Glad it helps :) tfw, and I hope you have an Outstanding Day :) amy
Hello Brenda :) Thank you for the sweet comment :) That sounds like a good alternative to the clay, thank you for sharing that :) tfw, and I hope you have an Outstanding Day :) amy
I am so excited to try this with cotter pins. Unfortunately I had no idea where to buy them here in Switzerland. Now I ordered cotter pins by Amazon and I will get 150 pieces in different sizes...lol....so I will have to make a few bead rollers for presents for friends. I love your colours and the texture too!!!
Great idea! I can't roll a bead to save my life, it seems! I'm getting a couple cotter pins today and will make this, thanks! I only have air dry clay though, so hopfully it works!
Thank you for the sweet comment :) I hope yours turned out ok, I do not use air dry clay much so I am not sure how strong it is :) tfw, and I hope you have an Outstanding Day :) amy
Thank u so much for this video this is the only one ive found useful as i cant afford the rollers but i already had everything u used in this video but i did hot glue the pins to the skewers
Hello Sonya :) Thank you for the sweet comment :) I knew I saw something like this somewhere :) I looked at diy bead tools for quite awhile and couldn't find the tutorial, now I remember you got one in happy mail and showed it :) I have used the cotter pins for quite a long time, but the handle is just the ticket :) Tell your friend she had a wonderful idea to add a handle to them :) tfw, and I hope you have an Outstanding Day :) amy
I made one of these today and absolutely love it! I have a really thin one that came with a cricut set - but the cotter pins are a great idea and can be used for so many things - beads, flowers, holding string for knots - woo hoo! I agree the thick handle is great. My mother looked at it and asked what it was. I told her and she loved it too. Said it looks so exotic and pretty! Mine was dark blue, teal and silver! I am a tool nerd and really like it! Thank u!
@@sarine6237 Hello Seeta :) I am so glad you like the way it works :) Your colors sound beautiful :) I am a tool nerd too, my Papa says "You have to have the right tool for the job" :) Have an Outstanding day :) amy
Hello Teresa :) Thank you for the sweet comment :) These bead rollers work great, and I like the larger handle than the one I bought at the craft store :) tfw, and I hope you have an Outstanding Day :) amy
Hi Amy, I do make paper beads and this looks like it will be so much easier than doing it on the outside of the dowel, which uncurled easily. Anyway, you probably know this but a good filler for polymer clay is aluminum foil and it would probably make the pins sturdier so they don't slouch as much, another good outcome with the AF is that you don't need to use as much polymer clay since it can be very expensive. But I would still do what you did and roll some parchment to stick underneath each side. Great idea. Thank you. be well and be safe. 🙏😷💕
Hello LisaMarie :) Thank you for the sweet comment :) The aluminum foil is a great idea :) I do not do polymer clay often, so I appreciate you sharing that tip with us all :) Stay Safe :) tfw, and I hope you have an Outstanding Day :) amy
Hello Susan :) Thank you for the sweet comment :) You are right, it does make it much easier, and fun :) tfw, and I hope you have an Outstanding Day :) amy
You can also use Tension Pin found in the same place u got the kotter key s . A mettle tub with a slit in them they work really good thats what i use to make my roller s.
Hello Gama :) I will have to look at those when we are able to get out again :) Thank you for sharing your idea with us all :) Stay Safe :) tfw, and I hope you have an Outstanding Day :) amy
This idea is fantastic !! I’ve become addicted to making beads . I am going to make at least 1 of these and with my husband being a mechanic Cotter pins are plentiful 😊. Have a blessed day 💞
Hello Patricia :) Thank you for the sweet comment :) I am addicted to making beads too, it is my go to craft whenever I need to do something and just cant decide what to do :) tfw, and I hope you have an Outstanding Day :) amy
Hello Dee :) Thank you for the sweet comment :) Sorry for adding to your list, if it is like mine, you probably have a few things on it already, LOL ;0 I find paper beads so addicting, and this does make it so much easier on the hands :) tfw, and I hope you have an Outstanding Day :) amy
I just love this Amy. I have gotten into making paper beads just recently and rolling them on toothpicks and skewers is hard on the hands. I went on Amazon and ordered a set of bead rollers then was cruising and trolling on RU-vid to find something to watch/do and here you are making something for $2 basically that I just paid $12 for. I am still going to make yours because I love using tools that I make myself. Love your videos by the way. I love how creative you are.
Hello Meloni :) Thank you for the sweet comment :) I have a couple store bought ones too, but I like the bigger handle on my hand made one :) Have fun making and using yours :) Stay Safe :) tfw, and I hope you have an Outstanding Day :) amy
Hello Laurie :) Thank you for the sweet comment :) I too have a store bought bead roller, and mine is very skinny, about as big around as a pencil, and my hands get tired very quick using it :) I am sure you can find cotter pins longer than the ones I have, they make them in all sorts of sizes :) tfw, and I hope you have an Outstanding Day :) amy
I have a gal like a bunch of stuff together and I'm going to try to make my own too because I think there's sinfully expensive to buy and there isn't a lot of selection even at Hobby Lobby so I'll let you know when I get mine done
Hello FaZe :) Thank you for the sweet comment :) Have fun making yours, they work great :) Stay Safe :) tfw, and I hope you will have an Outstanding Day :) amy
The clay will need to be pretty solid to hold up, and painting with acrylic paint and sealing will help it be stronger too :) tfw, and I hope you have an Outstanding Day :) amy
Hello Knotty :) Thank you for your sweet comment :) You can glaze with anything, but I use clear fingernail polish for lots of glazing, or I use Diamond Glaze :) Clear spray works if you want to glaze something larger :) Stay Safe :) tfw, and I hope you have an Outstanding Day :) amy
Very clever, rolling beads is on my list to do but was worried about my hands, this should work for me. I have a question on making boho beads. From my understanding I need a hollow tube for the middle. Could you please tell me on what to look for to use as tube if that makes sense. Appreciation to u and hello Papa
Vicki Diprose you can use straws or any thing with a whole in the middle. I use my tubing from my cpap machine. They do have videos were the ladies don't put anything in the middle
Brenda Goulette thank you Brenda, I have had 4 anaesthetics in past 4 weeks and they put the oxygen mask/prongs in my bag along with the plastic tubing which I haven’t thrown out will the tubing be strong enough? Thank you so very much for responding
Hello Vicki :) Thank you for the sweet comment :) You can use straws, and stir sticks the kind that look like little straws work great :) and as Brenda said tubing works great too !! You can also put seed beads in tubing with a bead cap at each end to hold them in, or a bead that is larger and tightly pressed into the end with an eye pin to hold it all together, they are fun to make :) Here is a video where I made boho beads ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-0tr_21Ot794.html I hope you enjoy :) tfw, and I hope you have an Outstanding Day :) amy
Vicki Diprose yrs the tubing is perfect for it. Ive been waiting for a craft for my tubing. This is just right. Now have to come up with more ideas because I have a lot lol
I just found your video and wished I had seen it before now I was looking for the bead roller and couldn't find them I did find one at Joann's and it cost more than the ones you made I subscribed to your channel and look forward to seeing your videos. One question I want to ask is there a certain size kotter key to buy. Thanks
Thank you for the sweet comment :) You can use any size kotter key, and I use many sizes to make different size holes in my beads :) tfw, and I hope you have an Outstanding Day :) amy
Hi Amy, hey how small a bead can we make from this type of bead roller....the size of the cotter pin i imagine eh?or do we just stop shorter and not make it as thick? And where is the beginning of your series on beads. Im so impressed by the beads
Hello Marlene :) Thank you for the sweet comment :) The cotter pin decides the size of your hole in the bead, and you can get them in all different sizes :) The size of your bead depends on the width of the paper, and how long it is :) If you make a really small bead with just a small amount of wraps of paper, make sure you cover it with nail polish and let it get hard so the bead does not get squashed :) tfw, and I hope you have an Outstanding Day :) amy
Nice one Amy, my hands are getting sore with arthritis, I work with polymer clay all the time and I have a big ball of mixed waste to use, so I think I’ll do me a couple of these as the handle is so much better than the one I have it’s too thin, with the clay I can make it as thick as I need! I have lots I can use to get some texture one good thing is a cheese grater, or a detailed rubber stamp, or something chunky knitted.....I’m rambling again lol Can’t wait to see what you make next week. Huggles xxxAnnxxx
Hello Ann :) Thank you for the sweet comment :) My hands aren't getting any younger either, lol, I find this larger handle just the ticket for not getting sore hands :) tfw, and I hope you have an Outstanding Day :) amy
Thank you for the sweet comment :) I haven't really played with air dry clay, but I think it might be a bit to light to use for a handle :) tfw, and I hope you have an Outstanding Day :) amy
Re: the crack - you made the handle with Sculpey 3 which is strictly for kids crafts -- it's fragile, not at all strong. For better results use either Premo or Souffle - both by Sculpey too. They are much stronger and better for things like this. :)
Thank you for the sweet comment :) Here is my video on making bead rollers with a wooden skewer, I hope this helps ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-FbmyV7rxXEY.html tfw, and I hope you have an Outstanding Day :) amy
You could have showed up at a better time we were just discussing how we can make our own earlier because I didn't want to pay 1495 for one bead roller also I wanted to ask a question what about when people make beads from paper napkins that they've glue to pay for and they use the message birthday iron the napkins onto butcher paper with the plastic coating on it is that an okay method to use or does the plastic block the glues from working?
Hello FeZe :) Thank you for the sweet comment :) I am glad you found this before you bought one :) Once you iron the napkin to the paper, the plastic is in the middle so you should not have a problem with it :) Stay Safe :) tfw, and I hope you have an Outstanding Day :) amy
Hello Chitter :) The cost to make and ship you one would be quite expensive. You could pick up the supplies and make your own for much less :) Give it a try, it is not hard at all :) tfw, and I hope you have an Outstanding Day :) amy
Hello Sarah :) I have never really used air dry clay so I am not sure, but I think it would work because you do not really put any kind of stress or pressure on the handle :) I think it would be worth giving it a try :) :) Stay Safe :) tfw, and I hope you have an Outstanding Day :) amy
