I’m a grower with 30 years experience, and amazingly I’ve been able to root a bud at the 9th week of flower. Grew a beautiful plant out of a bud cluster. My point is experimenting can keep it interesting and teach you much.

I'm rewatching all the episodes starting in Season 1. I'm half way through season 2 now on this re-watch. You always say, "IF we were going to maximize yield we'd do this..." But, so far, you always go for quality and do things to maximize quality instead. Which is awesome and I love that. But I think it would be fun to see you maximize yield in one of the quadrants next season. Show what living soil can really do for those who want large yields. Plus it would just be fun to learn the Build-a-Soil way for maximizing yields.

Not that you can't get good yields from living soil, but going for quality is much much easier and this is a very busy gentleman.
@NathanWeberTheDesigner
@NathanWeberTheDesigner 2 года назад
@@demsandlibsareswinecancer4667 Yep. I'm currently re-watching all three seasons and I didn't miss the reasons he gives for that... And his reasoning is that he doesn't want to get behind in the garden due to his busy schedule. Completely understandable. But we're now going into season 4 and cannabis channels are NOTORIOUS for running out of content ideas, haha. So I thought I'd offer some suggestions. Me personally... I'll probably never really go for heavy yields. I can't smoke everything I grow as it is, haha. But I do think it would be interesting and fun to see and learn.

5 times a day drip irrigation with a venturi injecting tea mix and he would need to visit his plants oncein awhile. You can make growing as lazy as you want, and still come up with quality. People fuss too much over their plants. Here's a case in point, people being against aggrevated trimming, do they forget flowers are calyxes through and through, so what's the problem with knocking trichomes off on the surface area? Do you cry about loss when you peel an orange or a potato? If you grow enough, you can get over the loss of small amounts, especially when you are the processor and have access to the trim to make other products. With experience, he is able to make it easier and easier, while keeping quality the same.

Idk about anyone else but last season Halitosis was massive from my perspective (via RU-vid lol). This season the Beefcake D were pretty damn fat. You have to take genetics into account when considering yield . I know it’s one data point but I’m pulling the most I’ve ever pulled, never mind the quality (next level), since switching to BAS & Earthboxes

This question is for Jeremy hopefully u can put this in the next FAQ . Jeremy what is ur thought on CBD plants , high CBD plants and 2to1 ratio plants and the diff ratios that accure in cannabis as well as the other cannabinoids like CBG THCv ? Great season can't wait for season 4 ! I'm just starting my room back up planting all my clones I've taken from my outdoor this yr so this next round is gonna be interesting to see the diff between indoor and outdoor from the same plant !!! same here buddy, northern lights, Durban P, White widow, Haze.. But unless u were at cannabis cup #1-5, Those strains are mixed. The most natural way to find original strains. would take a lot of help, but 1 original strain is doable. Find a place where herb grows naturally and has for a long time. BTW, I ordered seeds from dutchland spent 100$ and they were all bunk, didnt even germinate.. That was 10 years ago.

First of all, this channel is absolutely amazing. Thank you for all your wisdom, after growing my own for a few years, I've recently gone back to college after a 20-year hiatus/heroin run. I have 6 years clean and attribute it to the meditative pursuit of gardening, music, and especially my family. Thank you for taking the time to share your wealth of knowledge about this amazing plant. I have a few questions pertaining to my next round. I have a 4x4 tent with an HLG scorpion rspec light. Using a niwa to control the environment I'm looking to use 30-gallon containers for the foreseeable future. My question is do you think I could fit 2 or 3 comfortably inside the tent. I have a small humidifier (which I may not need with the increased volume of soil and grassroots smart pots with the liner jawns, I used 15-gallon fabric posts that lost too much through the sides no matter how much mulch) an oscillating fan that could be mounted, and the exhaust fan above. The more I think about it, I can probably only fit 2, how many small clones to you think I could fit in on 30 gal? 2? 3? 4? Just try and find out? I bet your answer is it depends. Anyway, I am a huge fan of this content, and I am constantly re watching. Btw I picked up BRR from AWKID, rootwise products, some build a flower/bloom, and all I need now is some q! Thanks for everything!!

I run 4 30s in a 5x5 and there is only a few inches between the pots, they might start to touch if you did that size in a 4x4. If you don't want to move up to a larger tent I would find something in the 20-25 gal range so you could fit 4 depending on how many plants you want to run. You could easily grow more than 1 plant in 15s or larger, just depends on how big you want them to get etc. I keep 4 moms of my previous run in a 15 gal no problem for reference.

I used to put 4 15gl pots in a 4x4, it's tight. I use 5gl pots now and my yield/quality is equal or better. I have to water a little more often.
@comfortablynumb9342
@comfortablynumb9342 2 года назад
Your plant count depends on how long you want to veg before flowering. You want around half your canopy space full when you flip to flower to fill your tent in the end. So you can veg one plant for a longer time, or several for a shorter time, and either way end up with about the same yield. I hope that makes sense. And congratulations on getting off the H! I quit in the end of 08. It was a struggle but I don't have any desire to go back to that life. I left the country for 9 years and lived in Central America. I miss it and didn't want to leave. But family needed me. Anyway it's great that you were able to get away too!! I love hearing that because almost everyone I knew in that life is dead and the rest lost their freedom. Only a few survived. So it's great you're with us.
@dizzloot9750
@dizzloot9750 2 года назад
First of all, congratulations on your recovery! God Bless You and much Love ! As for how many you can fit in a 30G..I'd say you'll be just fine with 2 plants in a 30 no problem. A 30G in 4x4 can easily be done with enough room to throw in a humidifier or De-Hu'. You'll fill that up real nice! I'd say just make sure you have enough lighting. If you can get a light that is meant to cover a 5x5 space you'll crush it. Even if you add in a second HLG Scorpion Rspec you'll be good to go.

hey i'm new her but old at growing, I beg to defer from your response to the question about leaving your lights off before the big chop ie harvest the main reason to do this is to increase the levels of terp profile as any experienced grower have noticed the extra strong aromas the ladies give off that seem to come around the darker periods, maybe there are benefits if not a little and any advancement the plant can get during its last couple days in its medium will definitely show up come time to consume the final product but then again you can be right and its all in our head lol cheers.

Season 4 'sidecar' idea to whatever you growing. Nix the cover crop, Grow food! What kind of edibles can we grow with our plants either in the same pot, or companion plants that can grow in the same environment and do well (and provide no issues for the main plants). Looking at things like timeframe compared to the harvest window for Cannabis (might not matter for large beds) and also discussing things that should not be grown in the same tent for one reason or another. Mini carrots or other quick-finish root veggie's? Lettuce or cabbage? FWIW I am trying some tiny bok choy from Baker Creek seeds and it seems fine, just a wuestion of finishing at the same time or sooner than the plant

So on the ripening question. I've experimented very heavily with this mystery. Even with the help of some neato miniature mass specs. I must ask this question to clarify before I answer yours ---- Does fruit ripen off the vine? What byproducts, chemical pathways happen when you lets say, pick and unripe tomato/banana/etc. We know CO2 is produced; this is why we insure airflow and burp our jars. The plant itself is also not dead when you chop it down, if so; the very act of cloning would be impossible. in the right chamber (drying/curing --- mine are the same*) @
@jacobrafaat1516
@jacobrafaat1516 2 года назад
I believe it has something to do with oxygen yes, but looking deeper into the cause of ripening off the vine, potentially the microbiology that lives endophytically inside the trichromes of all plants. This microbiology’s known to communicate to plants and each other via terpenes and potentially through other secondary metabolites as well, so who’s to say they aren’t just chatting up a terpstorm inside of those juicy unbroken trichrome heads. Frenchy documented to changing of terpenes and cannabiniods in the same hash over years of aging and saw a lot of change in the chemical composition as the hash aged. In his experiments he would mildly decarboxylate the hash by pressing and working it with boiling water in a bottle and then store it airtight in a temple ball in optimal conditions.

2 day darkness before harvesting makes absolute sense, because the plants have carbohydrate reserves for ~24-48 h. Leaving the lights off for 48h makes the plant use those reserves and that's what the drying and curing process in general is about.

Thx for inspiring many new habits for my gardening. I now cover crop & amend soil. Understanding Polymerase activity post harvest was a game changer for me. The thc does break down BUT it synthesizes itself back together, stronger with the electrons being released by the evaporating inner clean water (which is why flushing is important)…That process will yield you something More that wasn’t there at harvest. This is the plant’s way of survival…it knows it’s been chopped and it’s job is to preserve its flower and to protect that flower so its thc production after harvest goes to another level. So if the human can control this slow process by controlling the atmosphere, and slow drying, the quality of the weed will increase. The terpenes degrade and we know so far only that we can slow that degradation. I wish for more info on terps if u got it. I am so grateful to ur channel.

From the research I’ve been doing, 48-72 hours of darkness has a couple main benefits: 1. The plant sends nutrients and sugars to the roots during the dark period, which means less nutrients and sugars in your buds which supposedly results in a less harsh smoke, and 2. Trichomes degrade and terpenes evaporate during the light cycle, and are replenished during the night cycle. So supposedly, you should have better trichome and terpene production when you go for the actual chop. And as a smaller bonus, that should help with a slightly colder and less humid atmosphere which is also helps with trichomes and terpenes. I haven’t actually tried it myself, but as I’m getting down to the wire with my fifth grow right now, I was curious about he answer to that question and have done a bit more research on it in the past couple day. I will be trying. 72 hour dark period before my chop, probably starting tonight at lights out

Loving your channel fellas ! I have got a Random question for anyone. I’m growing using great pre mix soil and fertilising with chickenpoo, bat poo, blood and bone , and see weed extract. The plants grow lovely but when I flower them some get a nasty cat piss smell and when smoked gives a nasty buzz. No burnt tips or any sighs the plants are unhappy and good quality seeds ? What’s going on ?

hi i am also new to growing from South Africa, and all the videos on RU-vid are indoors, so why not make episodes of a grow outside between a auto flower and a photoperiod. i am also going to plant outside and would like to learn from the pros on what to do and what not to do. just an idea :)

From my experience, I would cut the whole plant at once, and hang it in the dark. It seemed as the trichomes ripened for a few more days, especially with a slower dry, or at least not a fast dry. I'd cut em down when mostly cloudy, hopefully, and I see some amber trichomes. Even though they're may be a good number of clear trichomes, I've noticed the clear ones turning cloudy after hanging a few days. Not many more amber trichomes though, but definitely from clear to cloudy, which wouldn't be from degradation..? This seems to only happen for a few days, while the plants still have a good amount of water in them. Next chance I get to cut a plant down, I'll pay more attention, and try to learn some more about this. Thanks for all the incredible information you guys have always put out. I started with your website several years ago, and was floored by all the great products and information provided. You really knock it out of the park with your videos and great channel. Much, much info most stoner channel growers are still clueless about. And you usually have the best products in stock. Great stuff goes fast, but you're always great at restocking, from my experiences. Build A Soil has been a big game changer in the industry, and with everyone's passion towards better inputs and different styles of growing (A big part of the 'No Till' growing industry, which has surprised so many with incredible results, using less inputs, and getting better product), rather than just selling bottled liquid mineral salts, over and over and over.. You guys have come far, and your always improving results for the growers, as well as the earth. Excellent work. Don't ever stop!👍💯✌️

I think the 48 hour method is so all the sugars will be in the soil not the plant. We don’t want sugar in the plant at the chop. So supposedly all the sugars are in the root zone when the lights are off. Then when the lights turn on that it’s time for the sugars to come back up to the plant, hence the symbiotic relationship earth to plant. The little buggies love the sugar. The plant loves the poop that the buggies leave behind after eating the sugar and other amendments.

It would be cool to see a high CBD very low thc strain to see how they grow and ripen differently too. I mean there is a lot of advice on trichomes for thc but not really peak time to harvest for cbd. I really wonder if growing conditions would change shooting for higher cbd levels

Can you do another video going through your seed collection to pick? My vote is for 2 from seed and 2 from clones for the 4 Quadrants and 2 Autoflowers in the 4x4 again. Redemption lol. I feel like the Autos need their own 10x10 series.

Well next season better have the pollen chucking we where promised! It’s the least covered subject in cannabis I’ve found. Plus it would be cool to have your guide for my first run through on chucking some pollen and doing a little breeding. So do one quadrant/tent for the seed making. Then do a quadrant that’s straight up for showing off the living soil yield capability with a genetic of your choice, and also do a single branch pollen chuck in that quadrant to show you can work breeding/chucking in even when maxing output. Either way I’ll keep watching!

I agree. The whole 48hr dark before harvest is useless. However, I think it is good practice to havest during dark time at least a few hours in as a lot of the sugars & nutes are diverted down to the roots during dark time so my theory is you get a cleaner end product. I could be wrong, but it's just a habit for me now.

Trichomes do in fact keep developing after the plant has been cut down, they will continue to develop as long as the flower is still moist, have done a lot of research on this, in the first 12 hours you will see a lot of development within the trichomes, after that it slows down but continues until the flower is dry, if u keep the fan leaves on and if u don’t wet trim them the trichomes will develop a lot better as the flower still has a source of consumable nutrients

Subscribed! We are supposed to get a frost tonight. This is my first year and I am growing outside. Complete newbie and more a gardener than a grower, that's for sure. I've learned a lot from RU-vid. We are supposed to get a frost tonight. Should I cut tonight? I'm torn. I know my dahlias are toast after a frost.

You should take the 4x4 tent and cross the male you have with the Beefcake D and harvest a shitload of seeds and do a seed giveaway that way as well. The autoflower xtras would be a nice giveaway too. Thanks for everything you put out for us, you da man!!!

i think the question would have been answered more wholly if answered whether or not you think that the clear trichomes may continue to ripen and maybe cloud up after cutting. That would be great to know for sure...

9:10 I actually changed 1 thing that completely turned my bud from shit to amazing and I'm hurt it isn't stressed to new growers as much as it should be. I went from drying in a 70-80 degree room to a 60-70 degree room and that alone (no change in humidity) completely changed how my buds come out. The temperature of the dry room matters way more than the humidity in terms of actually drying out the plant, and the drying process itself is the most important part in growing whatsoever. So there is actually 1 change someone could make that will completely alter their final product

Please do more auto flower runs next season. The 18 vs 12 hours is one key factor but what are the others? Their simple schedules and limited heights make them ideal for intro growers but there is so much else unknown…like DLI intensity, soil and supplement options, indoors vs outdoors, etc.

Green light is the least effective for plants because they are themselves green due to the pigment Chlorophyll. Different color light helps plants achieve different goals as well. Blue light, for example, helps encourage vegetative leaf growth. Red light, when combined with blue, allows plants to flower. In my opinion green light does affect it in a certain way they say green light is like moonlight it mimics moonlight but I'm with you I do not go in there with green lights unless I have to all my lights outside are green to reflect any light coming in even though there is no light leaks I would prefer not to use green lights inside and go into your garden during lights on thanks for the video I learned a lot

Do a long run. Mimic an outdoor California season. Super long veg cycle. One plant per quadrant. Go as big as you can in a tent. My last outdoor “starts” went in soil on June first at 3ft tall. Ended at about 6-7ft tall. They were in about 175gallons of soil.

The plant isn't dead immediately when you cut it. It takes several days for it to stop growing/ ripening after you cut it down.
