Here is my first scratch build for the channel. It is a full walkthrough of how i build my own frames for crawlers. If you have any questions for me please feel free to email me at WafflesRC@gmail.com
Dude, this is totally sweet. Reminds me of all the information I consumed 20yrs ago, for the Mechanical Design degree I never completed. I'm glad I haven't forgotten everything and can still use it to design my own rigs. I have a similar jig drawn on my table for my overland camper trailer build. So far my mistake cuts have made some cool pieces for the rest of the trailer. I'm using a disassembled wooden dish drainer for the trailer box and aluminum channel for the frame. My budget in a good month is $100, so I'm using as much "trash" as I can
That is so sweet. That satisfaction you get from doing anything on your own is priceless and so worth it. You definitely inspired me to want and try to build my own now.
Great video , I may try to find the nerve to build one myself , your video is really informative and motivating , just have to learn to weld good enough , thank you for sharing this video , I think you just created a monster for me ,lol , please keep the videos coming , I'm learning a lot
I'm really glad I can help. That's what I'm setting out to do. Just keep practicing and you will get there sooner than you think!... Bring on the Monster!!
I would just like to say thank you for sharing and enlightening us with that knowledge on building. I'm a grown man, don't care about me. I'm just enthused by the fact that young engineer and RC car enthusiast gals and guys are going to be empowered.. because of you putting this out there. Kudos sensai
Dude ive gotta say that you should win some kind of award forthis video. Not only do you actually teach how to make this truck, you embody what this hobby should be.you are humble, knowledgeable, friendly, snd best of all you dont try to sell anything! everything in this video is awesome and appreciated.good f’n job!
I saw that wheel base mistake and I was telling you through the screen “it’s the wrong one “ lol it’s actually easy to follow and cheaper to build your own. Good stuff! A grinder and paint, makes me the welder I ain’t
Awesome video! Can’t wait to see the rest… I love building things, and now I’ll be researching some welding instructional videos after watching this so I can learn how. I’ve always wanted to! Thanks for the inspiration! 😎 👍🏼
Found what I was looking for, and from the comments so did everyone else. You are doing what most of us dont know how to do. Thanks for sharing looking forward to more content for sure! 🤝
looks really good, definitely heavy, but like you said its your, that you built. one of a kind builds are sometimes the best builds. plus give me motivation to try, build one from scratch.
Awesome video. So glad to see old school ways "coming back" I started RC crawling in early 2000s with TLT or clod buster axles, traxxas stampede/rustler/bandit 2wd with hot glue to lock diffs, custom links from all thread and brake line tubing to sleeve over it, traxxas t Maxx rod ends, stampede/rustler/bandit drive shafts cut, sleeved, glued to stretch. We MADE it all back then. Buy battery cells and bars and make our own batteries to fit in and on axles and wheel wells to transfer weight. Miss those days. Watching this video, thing I may build an old school build from scrap parts I've got laying around and a pro line 55 Chevy Truck body.... thanks for the motivation! Keep up the remarkable and kick ass work!!
Exactly what I was thinking. Remember when the HPI Wheely King came out and it was "pretty close" to being usable as a rock crawler? The axles were wide enough and the trans was decent. That was a game changer. I still have a chassis that I welded up from 3/16 rod and paneled with a 72 C10 body to make a truggy. I like that the bar for entry into the "RC crawling" scene is lower now, but it's a different hobby than 20 years ago when you HAD to make a scratch built rig to go RC Crawling.
@bluetoy4x4 and we didn't have no 3d printing and such. We were digging thru old toy boxes to cannibalize an old toy for scale parts. My old radio shack trucks often found a say after saving the bodies and tossing the 400 Double A needing rig lol. I think every guy who started rc crawling built a proline c10 rig somewhere along the lines. Lol. And the HPI wheelie king jeep body. Man, the good old days. Especially when you could start getting aluminum axle parts for the hpi w/k axles. But the ring and pinions were super soft pot metal and now harder than heck to find.
@@eat.sleep.wheel21 prime video for those who have no idea where the RC crawling began. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-jm16uptE8Jk.htmlsi=4S-UuH56NIi0wiK6
Thanks for the video. Sharpie on the bench is perfect. It's the Isopropyl alcohol you're using that's the issue. I'll guess that's 70%. I use 99% "Fuel Alcohol" or isopropanol in "scientific" squeeze bottles for weld cleaning, cutting fluid, Sharpie and Dychem cleanup. It's the same just that it has less water and you can get it in quart or gallon cans. It makes a huge difference. You can still clean wounds with it. We(I) write target measurements on mills, lathes and vices to not forget numbers. Avoid Denatured or Reagent alcohols because of their additives.
This is sick asf from the breakdown of it all to the actual building I applaud you it's also bare metal so you can choose what ever color you want the chassis to be without the extra work
Thanks for sharing your videos. It's refreshing to watch someone on a similar level to me and does things on a realistic budget, and for practicality rather than show👍 only just found your chanel so binge watching on a chilled Saturday morning 😎
It's super neat how you make your chassis. I don't weld, but I too piece together trucks with parts from Amazon and Aliexpress, it cost less and you end up with a more customized truck. I'm not sure why people frown upon that.
When you first get into the hobby you buy RTR’s & start upgrading them eventually that gets boring & you start building or assembling as some say your own RC’s I just built up a Rock Pirates / Element Interceptor build staring with their Interceptor frame rails. Painted my body the normal stuff but it feels good to build your own & take it out.
hoping for more videos on building rc like this, its educational specially for me who just want to enjoy the hobby without spending loads of cash. im also hoping for 3d printing, that would be great also hehe keep it up sir!
I am trying my hand at a Land rover 110 and have no access to a welder. I am using 1/8 inch aluminium plate for the rails and 6-32 threaded rod and aluminium tubing for the cross members. You have inspired me to continue.
What a refreshing video! Thx ! That's how I build things. If it looks ok, it usually is ok! Keep doing it your way which is Probably the normal way people do it! Sweet. You got a new subscriber!
Just started to build, I’m an adult that needs a hobby🤦🏾♂️😂😂. Your videos are great!!! Haha & I’ve literally only have watched 2, this is the second!!! The way you’re doing it is the way I EXACTLY how I wanted to start a new hobby. As a man who’s tried a lot of things, I’ve always loved to build and mess around with constructing things from wood work to rebuilding vehicles. This is a very (with all intensive purposes) cheap way to start and be enveloped in a new hobby, again, love this & the way your teaching!! Keep putting out these videos please, they are inspiring to noobs like my self!! Maybe one day I’ll send some shots of one of my builds😉!! Take care and stay blessed brotha!! (Also the reason I had to comment, [I never, NEVER do, but I noticed the mistake of you initial measurement at the beginning, the cleat that you left that in and used it as a teaching tool (chefs kiss) golden moment, as it taught me at least, that sh*t is gonna happen, and it doesn’t matter, idk, keep that in and showing non “perfectness” (🤦🏾♂️😂) was IT for myself, thanks man!!👍🏾
Awesome build man. Much respect to the welding skills too. I never got used to the arc but did some oxy/acetylene stuff in college. "You're only limited by your imagination" they say!
This is awesome! On your frames, what about doing a pie cut and bend it so you have part of it thats always connected, and weld the corners? Either way, this is awesome!
nice , is this 2005 again lol. this is how I used to build my chassis only I would bend the tubing and then cut it half long ways giving you a c channel frame that is a little bit lighter and plenty strong.
I get them all off of amazon. The axles I get knock offs and I try to find the best deals for what I need for the motors. I do have to spend for the receiver because I have Spektrum controllers.
