Building 7ft short-bed Tacoma camper shell for under $50

Watch me build a truck camper shell that's 7ft long, with under $50 dollars worth of purchased materials. Yea I realize that's kinda cheating since I got most of the material from hoarding garbage in my garage, but hey I gotta feed the RU-vid algorithm and I'm not ashamed. All things considered you can do this build for pretty close to the same price if you can find even half of the material for cheap.
You could easily turn this into an 8ft build as well, considering how light it is.
Stuff:
1gal Clearance outdoor acrylic paint: $11.67
2in foam board: 27.68 www.homedepot.com/p/R-Tech-2-...
Everything else is net 0 cost from hoarding stuff in my garage, but here is the build list if you wanted to do something similar
Titebond 2 glue: 24.98 www.homedepot.com/p/Titebond-...
5lb 2in deck screws (I used less, but I don't know by how many): 33.97 www.homedepot.com/p/Deckmate-...
Wood to use in place of the plastic walls: 18.98 www.homedepot.com/p/PATRIOT-T...
8 chunks of wood to make stuff from: 43.84 www.homedepot.com/p/1-in-x-4-...
dropcloth: 22.29 www.homedepot.com/p/9-ft-x-12...
Then you just need to decide what to make the door/back portion from. But for under $200 you can build this camper with all brand new stuff! (183.41 roughly, give or take for finding material you might want to be different)

The music is fire. I came to watch the build again and just ended up jamming out. Honestly, just re-upload w no voice over and just music while you build 😂❤ seriously tho. Maybe you could do captions but who cares. Your video is really great. And thank you again for doing producing and publishing all this.

I’ve not read all the comments, but I did notice that someone was saying something about The Music If you go to 23 minutes in That’s a perfect example of very loud and almost torturous music By the way, I’m not a hater, and I’m not saying this in a negative way I think if you had no music at all, this would’ve been a great video I think you have a great style of speaking and do an excellent job of editing all the footage I would recommend no music whatsoever Just one man’s opinion Nice job on this low-cost build

DUDE, YES!! THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR MAKING THIS. HAS INSPIRED AND EXPANDED my vision for making a topper for my 04 frontier. Never even considered the possibility of extending the truck bed with the topper. Got me considering leaving the tailgate down and building-extending the topper over it. Did you consider doing that? Or does building it all out and removing the tailgate serve some other purpose? Ya, why didn't you just build out over an open tailgate if you don't mind me asking? Also, I love the music. you're my spirit animal lmao. this whole video was incredible. I understood everything. Please don't change (I don't think you will) you forever do you! lol 🙏

Thank you! I totally thought about doing a slide in with the tailgate down, but I wanted to have the angle for a bit more departure angle if I ever needed it. I was also hoping it would reduce weight a bit. I'm actually considering doing a full slide in build, and if I do I'll probably leave the tailgate on next time. This build was fun, it taught me a lot, but overall it has a lot of room to grow.

Hek yea! Glad you had fun! Plastic is kydex, I got lucky and found scrap in a dumpster near my home, even asked the owners of the company, was free game!

first i have read the other comments, an yes i agree with them on the music. on to more important issues. i have a ranger with a cap on it with the idea of adding that foot over the tail get for sleeping length. your video is the first i have found that covers going out onto the tailgate area. 1 thing i am considering is putting a 1 inch piece plywood on the bottom (bed level) cut to 84 -90 inches length. an build off that. also thinking side by side doors.

I'm actually planning a new build very similar to what you're describing. A big problem with my build is by reducing weight I sacrificed strength, and boy is it noticeable on this.
