Part 3: Follow Espen The Boatbuilder build a C.G. Petterson inspired modern boat from the beginning to the boat is on the water.
This boat is a home design, but the inspiration is from Scandinavian designs around 1910-1930. The narrow hull and pointy bow in addition to low weight will help the boat to a decent speed with a small engine.
In the good old days, fishing boats and larger vessels were built by a team of workers.
Thick planks need to be steamed in a closed box for a couple of hours to be able to bend to the curves of the hull, and must be bent to shape immediately before they lose their flexibility.
To encourage workflow and speed, they were sometimes served a shot of liqour for each plank completed. This was the hardcore version of the so called whisky plank, the last one to finish the hull.
This ment they had to work really fast to get a buzz. Not the best time to get in their way.
One story tells of an old skipper coming to see his boat during the build. As he was leaning over the topside, his long beard got caught under a freshly steamed plank as it was clamped to the frames.
The workers refused to remove it, had their drink and moved on to the next. His beard was cut and left as part of the caulking between the planks. The glory days of health and safety!

I just subscribed because I love watching fun makers from all over the world. Also, I just realized that since I am also already subscribed to The Swedish Maker and to Jesper Makes, I am now subscribed to makers from the big 3 Viking countries. 😀

I missed this part 3, so have watched it today. Boat is looking KJEMPEBRA! I also then watched your sauna vid. Such a great build and amazing to now have in your garden. I was saying recently I think 'sauna culture' has great potential in Britain. We don't have so many cold nights (although last week sub zero), a lot less snow, but plenty of cold, damp, wet, windy, miserable days, when a sauna would be perfect.

You are totally right! You don't need king winter to enjoy miserable weather in a super hot sauna... I do however recommend a cold water dip to acompany the Sauna! I've lived 1,5years in Ireland and 4 😬years in Bergen... and know all about the Brittish weather by geo-closeness experience :)

@@MartinWoodStudios Yes it is close, I live in England but closer to Stavanger than Cornwall in SW England.North Sea winter swimming is quite popular,. haha. (I did see a travel vlog last year of some American visiting Norhern Ireland, and they had some portable saunas in shepherd huts, right next to the beach. So you can go for a for a swim then go into the sauna. That looked great. Considering you feel even colder after being hot, I have to say you were very calm when you entered the icy lake. Impressive. 🤣

That went too easy. When I do it with my brother's 800 lb. boat, we end up struggling with swinging straps and my brother yelling at me. Have you tried that method? Much more ....interesting....

It was also first try after adjusting the height correctly (I wanted it to crash for a epic fail, Espen was nervous). First 1 or 2 times the side of the boat touched the floor.
