@@Belicose777 It sort of is but they have a few weaknesses as was pointed out in the video. In stock form the n/a engines have the thin weak rods, but the factory LPG/propane with the green cam cover and the turbo engines from 2006 onwards can take pretty big power on stock internals, but cant be revved over about 6300rpm or bounced off the limiter too much or the oil pump gears tend to shatter. The Barra is also undersquare with 92 mm (3.63 in) bore and 99 mm (3.91 in) stroke which makes them really torquey but makes the engine quite tall. Check out the video of a car called RIPSS at Summernats. It made over 2000hp using a 3.7 litre destroke crank which allowed it to rev passed 10,000rpm. Oh and remember this engine was only used in Australia and New Zealand, a combined new car market size probably equivalent to just Texas on its own. LS and 2JZ etc were sold worldwide so would have had more scope for factory development, better materials etc that limited Ford Australia
I’m a ford technician here in the US and I’m really pumped for this build. The Barra looks so much better built than the eco boost motors I work on everyday. I’d love to build one myself one day. Gonna have to show this vid to all my coworkers lol
barra does seem pretty cool... I HAD a 2012 supercrew f150 ecoboost was a awesome truck till i started having problems with it, thing pulled good accelerating and towed really well. my experience was it Idled really rough, had high rpm misfire ending up being spark plugs around 60k miles. After that i could tell around every 10k miles they needed changed again, would start idling rough and be more hesitant. I never ran oil to full life expectancy but 1st turbo died at 99k miles and 2nd at 113k miles. motor lost oil pressure while driving in a snow storm on the 1st turbo, so i thought she was f'ed since there was only a quart left in the engine. thats why i only replaced one. bought at 50k miles and traded in at 114k miles, i honestly dont wanna deal with another ecoboost changing turbos sucked
I had an Ecovoost Expedition what was burning oil really badly at 40k miles. I assumed it was the oil seals in turbos. You could see the smoke coming from the exhaust at idle. Luckily it was a work truck so I didnt have to deal with it.
Ford sold you short, the Barra was a development that could be traced back to the old six, 250 in Australia. Ford killed off the Barra, and given you the eco boost instead. Go Ford! Not really.
Hey Alberto just wanted to say that the way you speak english has improved massively and i can see you are more confident in getting very specific in engine components!! So proud of you!! I remember coming from mexico not knowing english at all nd now my level of intelligence has advanced quite extensively !!! Keep up the great work!!!
As an Ausie haven’t been this hyped for a Barra for a good minute you’re an absolute inspiration to us all. thanks Adam and Alberto and the wrest of the boys
I’ve been watching all your vids just to see anything at all about the Barra project and now I’m back to square one. Bro seriously just can’t wait for the next one.
Brooo you did what I wanted to do but I don’t have the money 🤣. Man I truly cannot wait to see this build complete. I hope in the future I can make a barra swapped s550
This has been one of my fav vids to date. Can't wait to see this car completed. I've owned turbod barras since 2008 (currently own 2015 G6E Turbo FGX Falcon) and one of the last supercharged coyote powered GT Falcons from the FPV factory (FPV GT Rspec) and honestly this is first time I've ever seen one of these motors being built. All credit to you and Alberto and the rest of the crew for taking on such a wicked build. Look forward to hearing it ripping the black top stateside fellas!!!!
Alberto is the man. Such a great mechanic. Builds fantastic stuff. Lot of Aussie videos out there that recommend that oil pump mod. Wish we had more Barra engine cars out here. Would buy one in a heartbeat.
Big boost segment was fantastic. Then you went and were talking to Johan and I was like "man Adam has a dope team of guys with him" Then Mike came in with some glamorous b roll of the engine and I was like "BRO! " This channel is strong right now. Just need the pink princess in florida now.
Not claiming I'm an expert or no everything about rebuilding or overhauling engine but this video was so refreshing. We did this with A65 and IO540 engines in A&P school. Miss those learning days. Demand is high for aircraft mechanics, well not right now bc of covid but still.
I’d love to see this thing become a dedi drag car with a powerglide. I can imagine him rolling around in this thing on Rocky Mountain race week or drag week with Cleetus.
Yo videos like this with Alberto making in depth engine work and modifications are sick. Would like to see more videos done this way with all the build you guys have!
Alberto Big Boost always has the kewlest hinters/tips/tricks.... I haven't built that many engines, but enough to know that when building, you're naturally want to rush to get to the next part of assembly.... Yet his tricks/tips, will actually save you time if you don't rush into the next step.... I know I've watched at least three of his tricks, that save time just with head studs!!!! I'm digging Mike's edits!!!! Good call to bring him in!!!!
