@@peterrasmussen68 technically the engine redline is not yet defined there... if you look at the horsepower curve you can see that towards the end it's still increasing steadily because the torque isn't falling off too drastically. Two of the guys have BBC and they put their Camaro's up for sale. The third guy said the Coyote was so impressive he went to the Ford dealer and traded in his new Camaro on the spot for a new Stang. As of today the one BBC has been sold and he has an offer for the other. Both have Stang's on order. The buyer's wondered why they were switching brands. Both owners said the same thing. The Coyote looks lke the future of HP and they look like the one's the others will be chasing. As you tension each bearing cap you should turn the crank to make sure it hasn’t locked, up many years ago I was putting together SBC 350, I checked all the main bearing tunnel bores, they all measured -0015 on the #1 cap -002 on the rest the block had been bored, decked and line honed. When I do a STD engine I like the bearings to be a bit firmer so I was quite happy with -0015, so I fitted the crank and tightened all the main bolts Down and the crank was really hard to turn I loosened of #1 and it Turned freely, I inspected the cap and I found a hair line crack at the bottom of the cap where the bolt goes through so i remove the crank and sent it back to the machine shop to get fixed as a consequence of that every time i tension a cap I turn the crank 360 before I tighten the next one. And don't try to bring up lifter failures, that was an issue that only appeared on truck motors due to the "displacement on demand" architecture that was never once in the history of GM, implemented on any of the actual "LS" part code engines

Kind of disagree with the "All engines respond to boost" thing. Coyotes respond better than most due to the OHC. Pushrod motors tend to float the valve assembly under pressures OHC can handle.
@ThePaulv12
@ThePaulv12 3 года назад
Re the boost all engines do respond. If a 200hp engine gets one atmosphere (14.7PSI) of boost it will make ~ 400hp. If the same engine gets 7-8PSI it'll make you guessed it ~ 300HP. Thing is when an engine is good the boost numbers tend to be more power for similar boost or the same turbo (if so equipped) makes the same power on less boost. Superchargers can't compensate for elevation gain like turbos can, and for the same boost they often make less power because of the pumping loss of the blower. I like blowers because they're simpler installation in some respects but they are always turning so they always consume more fuel. Turbos off boost and the motor almost becomes NA and when the boost comes on the pumping loss for the same power is less than a supercharger. Re OHC That's not necessarily the advantage but what you say is the theory of it esp in the past. The advantage is the design sometimes allows better valve placement and size if two valve without the complex geometry. A Gen 2 426 Hemi is an of example of complex geometry but the the way Chrysler designed the rocker arms they were pretty good up to about .570" valve lift. The other really critical thing that OHC or DOHC can allow is better port placement and design. Idiot pushrods often bracket the ports severely limiting the size and shape. Some engines like Ford Tunnel Port the pushrods go in the intake ports. The two valve Ford 427 SOHC of the 1960s was a way around that port limitation. Lastly, often it depends on the combustion chamber design you want. For four valve per cylinder DOHC is a no brainer.

Because I'm not a slave to a brand. Because there's 5 x's more opinions for making power with a GEN3+ SBC. Because LS is more efficient than Coyote at everything other than HP per displacement, and possibly MPG's, but they're close in MPG's. Because making big N/A is cool. Because LS without AFM is likely more reliable. BTW I own an 03 Cobra, 03 Lightning, 88 GT, 13 Taurus, and a 19 SS 1LE, and recently got rid of my old 02 SS so I'm a fan of both brands and buy both. One thing that's annoying and hilarious at the same time is these kinds of channels always go all out and do these badass builds every time they build a Ford regardless of whether it's some old Windsor based SBF or a modern Coyote or Modular build, but then almost everytime they do a LS build it's a, "we're doing a budget LS build" video where they're using some butt f'in, running, high mileage, GEN3 5.3L longblock that they paid $500 for at a junk yard, and they'll throw some decent at best heads on it, with an off the self cam, some bolt ons and an aftermarket intake that they're scared to port, and then be content with sub-500 HP because it was cheap to build. First of all F a 5.3L unless you intend to boost. If you're trying to showcase what a 2V engine platform can do then you need to be working with 4"+ bore diameters. How about this. Let's start with a GEN4 aluminum LS block, get it re-sleeved with some 4.2" bores, run a 4.25" stroke, use heads that put any 4V Ford head to shame in the CFM's they flow, run a badass intake setup, huge headers, etc. Then we can talk about how junk LS is. Hell you can get well over 600 WHP with a stock bottomend, GEN5 LT1 without a poweradder, and I doubt a LS3 is too far off that as well. Several shops have done it and some do it regularly. How many OEM shortblock Coyotes are making 620+ WHP without boost or a shot? And BTW I'm not hating on Coyote. Coyotes are some badass engines. I would own one. But Coyote fanboys are either stupid or they're full of chit. They're worse than LS1 fans were back in the early 2,000's and that's saying something. At least LS1's were legitimately beating up on N/A 4.6L Modulars. (especially the 2V Modulars) Coyote fans think they just dominate LS/LT and that's a bunch of BS. They're both very competitive with one another, but go about it differently. The biggest advantage for the GEN2/GEN3 Coyote is from the factory they're built strong enough to support more power when using FI than your factory cast rod/piston GEN4/GEN5 SBC engines. Props to Ford for stepping up in this area because before Coyote that definitely wasn't the case with your N/A 4.6L/5.4L engines. Also the LT4 was such a half-step by GM. Even Trinity which predated it was noticeably better for a factory SC'ed engine. I would rather have a LS9 than a LT4 with it's AFM hardware, inefficient blower, and less than great internals. The LT5 is what the LT4 should of been. Still GEN3 Coyote was basically implemented so quickly to stop the hurt that the LT1 cars where putting on the early S550's. The reality is GEN5 LT doesn't make less power than GEN3 Coyote. In Camaro the LT1 makes like 5 less HP and 35 more lb-ft and it's a detuned engine so that C7 would have the HP advantage. The 480 HP in the Bullitt and Mach 1 is less than the 495 HP the LT2 makes which is basically nothing more than a LT1 with a more efficient intake/TB setup (kind of like it is with the 480 HP Coyotes compared to the 460 HP Coyotes) and possibly some revised cam spec's. Pretty sure the compression, heads, etc is the same between the two engines. Personally I'd rather run a LS in a Foxbody than a Coyote. It stays true what what the car came factory with and helps preserve the charms of the torquey, N/A OHV SB in a lightweight Foxbody. Plus a compact LS just sits so well in a large Foxbody engine bay. I'd also rather run a 8.8" or a 9" in a Fbody than a 12 bolt or a heavy ass Dana 60. Who cares if my Fbody has a Ford rearend? If GM would of put a good/strong rearend in the car then people wouldn't have to worry about it.
