Last year marked an awesome milestone for my turbo NB MX-5. After owning the car for about 8 years now, it finally achieved boss tier status with a reliable 300hp turbo track setup that set some solid lap times.
I wanted to put together a full time lapse of all the interesting videos I've managed to muster up over time, into a neat little package. So here it is, the culmination of a completed turbo build.

Thanks Paul. I've had people get upset and tell me I "wreck" cars by doing what I do to them. I think they don't realise that all 3 of my main MX-5's came from battered lives that would've otherwise ended up as parts or scrap. Appreciate your kind words mate!

I purchased an NB2 a month ago to learn how to do basic maintenance on the vehicle and it made me realize the amount of time, money, and tools I need to do simple maintenance work is negligible compared to your build. Only time and experiences will further help me develop my automotive skills and your 7 years build definitely gave me a better time perspective on the goals for my NB2 build. 11:25 Finally a turbo build on RU-vid that has a good torque courve. Usually people only flex with their peak hp and ignore the fact that their tubo kicks in at 5k rpm and the hp increases only minimally from there and stagnates again at 6k rpm.

currently in the process of trying to build my first race car, but with a very very light budget, and I love watching this kind of content! Seeing everything get done mostly alone is super cool, and this gives me ideas of more things I can try to do with mine. It also supports some of the things that I've been doing, or thinking about doing with my car, so that's awesome to see that I'm heading the correct direction. Fire video! This is such a pure racecar, I love it! I really want to have fun with my NB, but it is so clean (previous owners babied it and did not modify) that I am scared to cut it and modify it. I want to bolt on custom aero, and do a turbo, rollbar etc, but i am scared i will screw up my perfectly clean NB.

Nurburgring tradition actually suggests the car should not have the sticker, as it never drove on the circuit, but I have personally driven there some 10+ years ago, and I like to break traditions sometimes.

thats definitely a very cool tracktool. my most favorite budget car is the NB miata since YEARS and what you did there, especially the deepness, is stunning and exactly what i can only dream of. the coupe backdoor and the front tire fenders are 100% the way as i would do it. very very impressive, keep your work!

Thanks mate. Currently I am happy with what I can fit under the OEM-ish style fenders. A wider wheel would be nice, maybe a 10", but avoiding any type of flares. Just my preference I guess.

Holy moly mate. This was the best car video i've seen in a while! Laying up those carbon panels was incredible. You built that rear spoiler beautifully. Did you do anything to the bottom of the car for flatness? I see that big side skirt and diffuser action. Engine work looked top notch! That ducting to the radiator, 3D printed pieces, gosh, I'm just in love. What did you weld together in the steering rack? Cylinders bored, did you stroke the motor? Sorry for so many questions, it's just so incredible I want to understand it. Thanks mate!

Thanks Hunter that's a very kind comment.I have run a flat underbody from time to time, but for the moment I leave it off to prevent overheating of the underside/trans. As part of "de-powering" the steering, the pinion of the power steering setup needs to be welded to remove the built-in slip that normally allows the power steering to operate properly. Cylinders are only slightly bored to clean them up, no change in con-rod length. I have many more detailed videos if there's anything in particular you are looking for.

@@Bbeavis oh wow, a reply, wasn't expecting that, i did have a question then, did you leave a large majority of the engine stock for the build and just change necessary parts such to accommodate for boost and more power? in other words the stock engine was able to handle the extra power output the turbo was producing? im curious as in the future would like ot turbocharge an nb and wondered if it would require a mountain of work.

Sadly no not in the real world, I have cheated the system and the car doesn't strictly deserve the sticker. But I have been there myself, and I have driven the car virtually in a racing sim around Nurburgring, so I have left the sticker on the rear bumper.

My car as it stands is N/A and the engine bay tends to run hot. i track it maybe twice a month but plan to turbo and start drifting. what is your opinion on a dual/rear mount radiator setup? If all figured out correctly with the right rad, pump, fans and airflow, is this idea something worth pursuing? The ideas of building a racecar is endless, i wish i never started this money pit of a journey BUT... ive never been happier :D Btw, here to sub with my second account to do my part in growing your channel! you deserve more attention.

Honestly if your car is overheating N/A then you have issues you need to correct before you thing about turbos/drifitng. A standard-ish power MX-5/Miata should not overheat, even on track, when running the factory spec cooling system. You need to correct the issues first. Personally for a track car I believe that simple is best, easier to maintain and easier to identify problems, rear mounted radiators add complexity, you need to decide if its worth it, or is it just for the "cool" factor. In my opinion, a properly ducted quality alloy radiator in the OEM position will suffice. You will need to add a sizable oil cooler also. Good luck!

Satisfying video, not because of how beastly it became, but by its build. It was done the proper way, with care and attention, that’s the highlight. Btw, some say it’s better to use the 1.6 non-variable timing cam to turbocharge, for reliability. Is it true or a myth?

Thank you Fabio, appreciate that a lot. In my opinion, the 1.8 VVT is the best engine of the NA/NB chassis for most situations, hard to see why people would argue otherwise. Perhaps the 1.6's are good if you want really high boost levels or something unusual.

Thanks Christian, some of those subtitles were from the original edits years ago and had been timelapse sped up for this compilation, so it's no perfect, but glad you enjoyed nonetheless.

@@Bbeavis yes sorry! Here in Sweden we call it top. I mean the head were the cams are. I have a BP5A engine it says on my exhaust manifold cover. I can't find any good instructional video on a head removal.

7 years is more than 2500 days, he said he worked on the car for 1000 hours so thats around 2.5 hours of work everyday on average, even if you added 4$ of upgrades in an hour that would still be over 4000$... Don't know how much this cost, but im sure that its worth it great job

Hey Powerhauz, sadly as as the RX-8 was in my dad's shed and his needs changed, he has since sold the car. But on the upside it was working better than it had been for a long time, so it's great to have saved another car from the dead.
