In this video I take on a commission/custom order for a bespoke bar. I worked with the customer to find out what their needs, preferences and requirements were before starting the design process. For instance they needed to hide one under counter fridge and one freezer behind the bar so I designed the bar to accommodate those needs. As usual I started with a rough sketch followed by a detailed computer model/drawing using Sketch Up. Once the design was finalised I started the build process!
I hope you enjoy the video. If you do, don't forget to hit the like button and help support my channel by subscribing & hitting the bell icon if you haven't already. Thank you very much for watching and reading. I'll see you on the next one!

I like watching your thought process, working slowly and deliberately, especially when problems arise. I like to think I'm the same way, though I do get in a hurry sometimes when time is short. And of course that's when I make mistakes! Plus of course the Festool tools are dreamy....

Thank you for checking out the video and for taking the time to drop a comment here firstly! I appreciate it ☺️! I know what you mean, when time is short it’s hard to take your time. That’s exactly when I dislike making. Rushed work for me ruins much mojo 😂 #festoolfan #notgoingtolie thanks again for watching! ✌🏻😁

Great build! Love your Festool miter saw! An assembly table is something I need as well. Even the outfeed portion of my table saw being 4 feet by 3 feet (1.1 square meters), it still isn't large enough.

Thank you 🙌🏻😄. It was a long old build but worth it. Yeah the kapex is amazing I will admit. It’s just one of those things where I keep putting off. I want one where I can fit one full sheet of ply on there and I think I’ll be happy with that. But I do worry it will be to big in my workshop space 🤷‍♀️😬

First step was a beer caddy. Now a beautiful bar. Next natural progression is a set of bar stools, Tables and chairs then a dance floor! Cant wait to see it all come together! :-) Very nicely built bar! (Hope your arms recovered from the hand planning)

Thank you! ... unintentional progression if I’m honest but now you’ve said that I wish I had some of those orders 😂 although I want to build a workshop stool so maybe that can be the substitute 😜 ... they’ve recovered thankfully 😅

Hand planing is not fun. I just built a garden house/ hot tub retreat with no Miter saw (no electricity) and rough wood from a local saw mill. Just about done now. Learnt loads of new skills along the way. This video is totally helpful in building the bar, from the first I though hmm... South Wales!!! I was originally Pencoed. Gonna check out more of your vids. Should get the leccy to wire up the garden house to the grid tomorrow :)

Great to hear you’ve learnt a lot of new skills during your build. You should be proud! Hand planing is always a task in itself on big projects. Yup, beautiful Wales 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 ...Pencoed is not too far from where I am currently. Thanks a lot for tuning in and checking out the channel and vids. 🙌🏻 good luck with the wiring 😊!!!

Fantastic job! Just wondering how did you secure the front of the bar to the rear sections? Did you pocket hole them as well or was it glued before you put the hard plywood on the sides?
@KirstiePervinDavies
@KirstiePervinDavies 3 года назад
Thank you very much. I appreciate it 😊. Yes 👍🏻, I used both pocket holes and glue to attach the front frame to the back sections. You could also drive screws in from the front knowing they will be covered anyway but I just knew with my bad luck I’d hit every single one of them attaching the ply wood 😉😂. Thanks for checking out my bar build ✌🏻😊

Excellent project and video !! Kirstie, where did you learn your trade ? You are a very knowledgeable and talented Craftsman !!
@KirstiePervinDavies
@KirstiePervinDavies 2 года назад
Thank you 🙏🏻 I appreciate it! ☺️ I didn’t learn my trade anywhere specifically, I would say I’m self taught in terms of woodworking. Reading books, woodworking magazines & watching YT, internet searching too of course would be my main sources. I studied design & technology in school which gave me good knowledge to transfer into this trade. I studied and worked in mechanical engineering background for a couple years too. Both gave me experience working with machinery & tools. I’ve always been a hands on person since a young age, building, taking things apart, drawing, art all that creative stuff. Thanks so much for checking out the video & dropping a comment here. Have a super day wherever you are today. ✌🏻😊

Kirstie, Thank You for taking the time to reply !! Greatly appreciated !! I admire your talent !! I enjoy working with wood too, however, I am not at your skill level. I plan on watching more of your videos !! Maybe something will rub off on me ? I hope you are having a great day too!! Sincerely, Dave Wentworth, USA.

Kirstie how is that osmo black stain to go on? , I'm looking for some black stain for some oak and it looks good great finish. Do you work in Axminster? I'm surprised they let anybody in to use the tools incase they get a hefty liability claim if something happened to someone.
@KirstiePervinDavies
@KirstiePervinDavies 4 года назад
Hi William. I use a microfibre roller to apply Osmo oil stain. Gives it a nice even finish. One coat will allow the grain to show through. On this project I used two coats for a complete black grain affect. Can be applied with a scraper, brush or rag though I believe. But I prefer roller. Less messy and more efficient. I would recommend Osmo finishes. Ive used many of their products and loved them all. (Long drying time though, not so good if you’re in a hurry) 😊👍🏻 ... no I don’t work for Axminster directly but I’ve worked with them for demonstrations, they’re a great company, always very helpful. But yes they wouldn’t let anyone rock up and use the workshop of course. I also had introduction and safety sessions before being allowed to use their small workshop in store. 😊 ...ps, thanks for watching!!😁
@williamn01
@williamn01 4 года назад
@@KirstiePervinDavies yes I liked the finish on it never seen the black used before tho, I've got some of their stuff in the cupboard which I have bought for jobs and never got round to doing 😂, I will get a tester of the black tho and see what it's like, I was thinking that about you must have worked there or something before, I have bought loads of stuff from them always been effecient. Keep up the gd work on the channel K all the best pal 👍
@KirstiePervinDavies
@KirstiePervinDavies 4 года назад
Yeah it’s nice stuff isn’t it. Definitely get a sample to try. I think you’ll like it, it applies really nice and with a top coat of the regular satin (clear) it’s durable. Good luck with the project you use it on and thank you so much for the support and watching. Stay safe and well! 😊
