The complete transformation of my Datsun 280zx in 10 minutes. I really enjoyed making this video. I can't believe how far it's come! Crazy. Check out my merch: lakesideco.shop/ 240z, 260z, 280z, 280zx build.
Please wear better protection when painting. Proper ventilation is also required. You could be very sick down the line if you don’t look after your safety.
@@itsmikelake are the replacements for parts expensive? or easy to get? i live in argentina and there are almost no datzuns because in the moment they were selling our country began a non importing fase of the economy.
@@itsmikelake I can help you out with one part....cheat code for headlight replacements. They use the exact same headlights as a Jeep Wrangler... possibly older models like CJ7 headlights 😂.
The whole time I was scared to death thinking you would keep the rust and damage untouched, and just have the pretty paint over it. Thank goodness by the end you actually stripped the whole thing and fixed it all, had me worried.
That is such a beautiful car! I'm glad you put so much time and work into that Z so you could enjoy it! Also, thank you for saving it from where it was before!
@@itsmikelake do you know of any other affordable vintage or retro cars as class as the 280zx or 240z, I love them but it seems I’ll never get one, any alternatives?
You have a nice ride bro, i own an 82 coupe with some rust on the roof also T-tops too, I live in California and know a guy who works and sells them too lol of course they have some rust some nce its hard to find one without it but last time he had a 260z lol
Your so super lucky to had found a right hand drive 280z manual transmission for 1500 .in texas you find a LHD automatic for that price .why 😭😭 I wish I found a RHD for that price too
Price must have increased by miles over the last couple years. Cheapest 280 I can find in my area (Netherlands) is like 15 grand and it's a complete rustbucket. Like literally no hard panels left. Entire wheelwells that are just transparent from all the metal missing.
Yeah that’s a fact! All jdm cars have increased in a big way over the last couple years. It’s nuts. Makes it worth spending the money to fix them up for sure.
A customer's house i went to had a 240Z, 260Z and a 280Z in his back yard and was letting them sit there to rot. I offered to buy them but he said no 🤷🏽♂️
I have a grandpa in Georgia who has a z car, I plan on buying it from him and restoring it, it just sits and collets dust and rust and I got it’s engine running when I was there and I’ll do it again if I have to
Hey guys I'm completely rebuilding a 1974 Datsun 620 on my channel if you guys want to check it out! Beams Engine Swap (Japan) Electronic Power Steering New Paint Coilovers Custom Interior and many more mods... Thanks
i love this, i won a 300zx z31 1984 and people say im crazy and i should just stick to the 32 gtr i have but seeing people like this bringing life into the fairladies is incredible and fills me with joy !
If you had to guess, how much would you say you are into this build? I am keeping the car for life, so this will clearly be waste of money but its been a passion for years - worth it!
Awesome car! Did it not need any mechanical work beyond the fuel pump? That is some seriously impressive reliability if so.... Would you consider spraying the flares over the wheels body colour or do you prefer black?
Thanks bro! Yep just a fuel pump, crazy hey! I’m currently doing version 2 of the build. I did think about spraying the flares blue but instead I’ll paint them a nice black this time around.
I like this build a lot, it first bothered me that you didn't remove the rust completely the first time, and used fibreglass to "repair" the holes. however, I think you had in mind to respray and redo the bodywork anyway so now I don't mind. I hope you did use epoxy primer ;) as a rusty car owner myself, I know the importance of preventing rust lmao. last weekend I had in mind to repair a little rust hole under my door, that turned out to be half a car length of rust... which I had to cut out, haven't had time to patch the hole, but I did already clean the inside of rust and used Epoxy to seal the inside for preventing rust. love the car, paint has a few imperfections, but really good for a home sprayed car.
Hey there, thanks so much for 280zx content, i actually really like this car and bought one for 3 grand with 69k miles! Question, does anyone make bolt on struts? i am NO welder haha and would rather pay a little more for bolt on
Hey Bryan, unfortunately no one that I know of makes the bolt on struts. They're all weld kits. Most local shops will do the welding for you for a pretty small fee! Good luck with your build bro, 69k miles is awesome!
I wish you could buy one of these in Munich - or at least anywhere in germany for under 20k €.... Since i end up living here i basically can not fullfill my dream and drive one of these.. 20k for some 30-40 years old cars is not worth it here ... But im happy that there are so many car enthusiasts like me who love this car just like me =)
I got it to this stage so I could drive it round for the summer with the intention of then tearing it down to do a full restoration, which I’m currently doing. I drove it round for that summer and had an absolute blast so no regrets here. Now version 2.0 of the car is nearly finished and it’s a fricken beast!
@@itsmikelake cheers man, my 1978 280zx (yes it’s a 1978) is almost done. I did a sr20 swap and a ton of restoration and rocket bunny kit will be put on this weekend. Car has been down for about 2 years but I did everything the right way. Going in for paint inside and out in the next couple of weeks then all the new interior is going in!
@@itsmikelake unfortunately my OCD would not allow me to just Frankenstein so I sacrificed it being down for a long time. Glad I did though because pandem released the rocket bunny kit for the 280zx early this year and I jumped on it lol
Man o man I had one of those baby's And A super duper custom Kick ass 280 That was My Baby Baby. And then my buddy who loved Zs To I got one for u that I'll sell to u it's strictly for Really Kicking ass and I said Bought. He said ok.And me And that monster of a Big big Z On Steroid's as I used to call it won a many many Races.Im older Now But Man o Man I've been keeping My I out eye for a Cool Z.I just have a soft spot in my heart to this day For Those Z$ss Till I'm no longer hear on this beautiful Earth. Its Just Something About Them .And Every Z Owner I've Ever Came Across In Life That's Ever Owned One We All say The Same Thang.I LOVE Zs.
Wow I didn't know there was a Right Steering Wheel version of the Datsun 280zx cause mine is left steering wheel but I like that everything else is the same.
just bought one to try and fix! it wouldn't start because the ECU was burned from someone connecting the battery backwards.... i got a new one and it started but died again after running for 20 mins. i have spark and fuel but the injectors aren't getting the signal to work. there's power but not the signal from the ECU or distributor.
This might hurt some 280zx fans. Someone's giving their 280zx project car for free in cali. The day of posting this I'm pretty sure it'll be gone by tomorrow
This is one of my dream cars. The exact same color as yours with copper watanabes, sadly I won’t be able to get my hands on one because where I live they want 5-10,000 for one that doesn’t start.
If you ever want to upgrade your front brakes again get the 92 Toyota 4 x 4 front brake calipers they Bolt on you might have to turn your rotors but they're 4-piston caliper that bolt on
Subbed! Love to see another aussie car YT! Wish you were around NSW. Love the work on the Datsun! I always have a soft spot for older datto’s and Nissan’s. Makes me miss my 88’ Exa
@@itsmikelake cool keep it stock just rebuild the engine couse of old age and smoother running also check the anime midnight wangan where the main protagonist drivrs a 280z
