Just discovered the channel and have watched a half dozen videos. Then I realized you haven't posted in a while! Hope all is well and you come back to share more videos soon.
GREAT VIDEO!!!!! THANK YOU!! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!! I cannot express how much I appreciate the lack of: Annoying intro wasting my time. Annoying music distracting me from your (excellent) content. Begging for subs, likes, notifications, etc. Unnecessarily long plugs for sponsors (I liked what you did there, though. A quick, cute break. ) This 18:21 minute video has over 18 minutes of good CONTENT, with no superfluous or annoying crap. It flew by, enjoyably. This should be a training video on how to make good videos! Yeah, the wood, the process, techniques, skill, care, attention to detail, fixing mistakes, etc. are all beautiful. And I liked how you matched up the grain on the handle to the lid (~15:20). But, Man, this is a crisp, clean video with zero fat. Keep up the good work, and you now have a new subscriber. Thanks again.
I love this, the only thing I might add is a little block to keep the brass rods in place. Just incase someone decided to be a little aggressive with it :)
I had the same issue with cupping of boards at the joint. I use a plane to shoot the board close to 45, then freehanded the fit with a chisel by removing the high spots on each end. It worked, but it was tedious, and the box has a noticeable (to me) cup on the outside. I'll try the water trick next time. thanks
I just ran across this channel last night while doing some research for installing a french cleat wall in my small workshop. Since seeing that first video, I have been watching various others here. I enjoy your sense of humor and honesty when you realize that something didn't go exactly as planned. Thanks for keeping it real. Also, thank you for taking the time to film, edit and share your adventures with us. I am now subscribed and looking forward to the next videos. :-)
Nice looking box. Two ideas, use Baltic Birch plywood in your boxes, much more stable, much better looking, much flatter. Second Buy a standard 7 1/4” x 24 tooth framing blade and use it in your table saw to cut the box is open with. This won’t work on a Sawstop. It gives a much better cut then the bandsaw.
GREAT video. You spent quite a bit of time getting it right. There were several tips & tricks that we can all learn from and put to use on our next project. Will have to watch it a couple of times! !! !!!
Another excellent project Cody-- a brilliant box that I must make. I just binged several of your video's and you have great style. I can see this channel growing rapidly!
The more projects I do, the more I dread using my router. I've messed up so many projects with that thing. Glad I'm not the only one nervous with tool. :)
Nice! I'll have to build one. I've always called the thinned glue sizing. It was used to shrink and stiffen muslin on theatrical flats (scenery pieces). Merry, Happy, Enjoy! Looking forward to your next projects. Thanks!
I subscribed to your channel based on this video without seeing any other content. Great box design. Awesome idea using the brass rods! Based on this project, the rest of your content has to be great!
OUT(bleeping)STANDING! Oops, Navy excitement bubbling up. This the best demonstration of continuous grain construction I've seen yet. BZ on using moisture instead of mechanical methods to correct the cup.
I don’t usually comment or subscribe but you have a great channel. Looking forward to more videos. Your content is great, esp the French cleat stuff. Great job and good luck.
Nice box, I have been doing small boxes in between large projects. I love big pieces, however a small box is a great way to play with your tools and doesn’t demand a lot of resources, until one of those boxes are a Birdseye and wenge Spanish cedar humidor.
I love the box idea. I am currently obsessed with boxes this one is something I truly want to make. I am concerned though I have always heard if you veneer one side then veneer the other or it could cup/warp. Thanks for having plans available
Well-done videos! What kind of saw blade are you using? I've looked for a 1/8" kerf 10" flat top blade (for rabbeting), but the closest I could get was a 9/64" Amana.
Great box! A question about using plywood for the bottom and top. Have you ever had a box break apart because of using solid wood for a top and bottom like you talked about? I've heard and read that it could happen (including in '52 Boxes in 52 Weeks') but I've not found someone who it actually happened to.
