Really appreciate this summary, especially the realities, e.g., skip AZ antelope. I know a lot of these details are in the state specific app articles and videos. This was really concise.
Was wondering what happens if you get multiple tags in different states it seems like seasons are around the same time and some states don't give you money back for returns
Hi there, good question..for me I try to plan a hunt or two that I know I will draw and then I will either apply for a really good hunt (very low draw odds) in other states or I will buy points only so that I can use those in a coming year. It takes a little planning, but as long as you are playing the game you can ensure that you get a tag or two every year and get a chance to go hunting. It's a practice in learning the draw systems, applying and building points year over year to use in the future.
I like you guys and think the world of your efforts informing us ppl that have really busy lives. Thanks for that. 1000.00 just for applications means 5g or more in your pocket every year to pay for the off chance you get luck on everything you apply for.. maybe next year I'll try to apply somewhere. Meanwhile I'll keep tryn up here in Montana.... Thnx again
Hi there, I understand the concerns for sure and it's hard to capture the entire thought process and plan in one video but for a lot of these it's about building points for a future hunt and perhaps swinging for the fences in a lot of those in the very rare chance that you'd draw a tag of a lifetime. The odds for a lot of those hunts are poor so it's almost impossible that you'd draw multiple in one year. In reality I'm trying to draw a couple permits each year and then banking points so that I can ensure I draw a tag in the coming years. Montana is a great state to hunt and really if I lived in Montana I would probably just hunt it and strategically apply for hunts that offer a better opportunity. Hopefully it all helped some, but definitely just takes a little looking into to make sure you get a good opportunity to hunt every year.
Are there any limited entry mule deer units worth putting in for with 3 points or should I wait another year or 2? For archery. I live in Vernal utah so I'm resident.
Hi there, it would depend on what your objective is and what worth applying for means to you. 50% of the limited entry tags are randomly allocated so as long as you apply you have a chance to draw. Some units like the Henry's or the Pauns are very tough to draw but should you get lucky the hunts there are very good. Other LE units like the Book Cliffs, West Desert Vernal, or Diamond Mtn have a bit better odds but the buck:doe ratios and trophy potential aren't quite on par with the best units. With 2 points you would be in the random pool. It took 12 points in 2023 to be guaranteed a LE archery deer tag in the best draw odds units. Here's more food for thought, a Utah resident can only currently apply for one LE species, so you have to choose LE elk, LE Deer or LE antelope. In my opinion, unless you are a die hard mule deer guy it makes more sense to apply for and build point for LE elk since there are far fewer good OTC elk units in Utah. That's reverse for mule deer, there are a lot of general season deer units and far fewer quality LE deer units. I've always thought it made sense to hunt general season deer every few years and try to draw and build points for LE elk. Anyway, hope that helps..all the best and good luck in the draw!
@@trailkreitzer9163 great information, thank you, ive always been intimated by elk hunting as i hunt solo and im still relatively new to it. but makes sense to put my points into the LE elk for sure.
Very good. So, Colorado does not require the tag fee up front correct? I’d like to apply for Wyoming and Montana but I’ll wait until gohunt has a “grizzly” feature on the app. I want areas with NO griz if possible.
@@drewolm Colorado does not require you to front the cost of the tags you apply for. You just need to buy the qualifying hunting license and pay the application fee for each species you apply for.
