Wow! I framed apartments and houses back in the mid to late 1980s but I've never seen framing up close in almost 40 years! Carpentry technology has come a long way over the last 40 years! Thank you for demonstrating and sharing!

I wonder with the increase of routers on jobsites, if we will see an electric brake added to them and the same trigger type added like our battery saws. Seeing that bit spinning for 5+ seconds after is like using a circ saw with no guard. (I don't use a router on site though)
@nicolasknauf4206
@nicolasknauf4206 7 месяцев назад
There's a guy I work with with a DeWalt cordless router. It has the electric brake but only after you manually turn the switch off. There is no trigger, just an on and off. If they made one with a trigger I would grab one for sureeee.

Slab on grade walking exteriors doesn’t seem so bad. Living up in the PNW with snow load, I used to hate walking exteriors cause by the time you framed out the basement with pony walls it got to be a little rowdy. Usually had to have someone walk exteriors with a propane torch to melt the 1/4 of ice off the plates 😤 By the time you were passed the one floor mark that’s when the “mental” warfare started. But I appreciated the idea of giving yourself something to do. 👍

i am not a carpenter by any means but i do have a decent idea of what is going on but i have to admit i had no idea what a shear wall is. Being in the State of Georgia where we don't have Hurricanes or earthquakes ( sometimes but small and rare on earthquakes) i didn't have a clue about them. We do have plenty of Tornados but a shear wall would be useless at stopping that.

This is probably your best video I've seen. I did kinda trash you last time. If you have been framing within the last 20 years your gonna need some thick skin and you took it pretty well. I struggle finding guys who can walk plate and you hit the nail on the head about staying focused and not getting into your own head. It is 100 percent a mental thing. I have a fall from 22 ft onto a concrete sidewalk and broke my pelvis. I'm still up there doing it today. Plus I router all my windows too. It is faster and cleaner. Explaining what we deal with sizemic wise should help all the other out of state people understand why we build this way. You guys should ditch the metabo/Hitachi guns. We run the superframer Promax guns. They are 100 dollars cheaper and hit harder and the actual gun dimension is alot shorter and about 10 lbs lighter 😂 since it is shorter it actually fits in a standard stud bay.

Whoa, the plight of the lowly construction worker. Love the video and info, but, the guys are using no hearing protection. I am glad to see some are wearing eye protection. I get it, I've been in their position, and now paying for it in the loss of perfect hearing. But I know this kind of work requires communication, so hearing protection is out. Whatever you are being paid to do this work, you deserve much more money.

@MattBangsWood after watching you, I finally tried it. 300+ dollar DeWalt and it died b/c of the switch on the 3rd window. Went back and grabbed the Bosch. Worked great. I too have cut windows and doors out of osb my entire life. I can cut a straight line w/o even popping it. Still nothing compared to the results I just got on the last two bldgs. Try it once and you'll never go back. Plus with all of the new window sealing materials and codes, it can't be beat. 😎✌️ P.S Matt is correct on sloppy cutting. Most look like a chainsaw was used. 😜

I'm a framer and while i love the work, the community/indstry is kind of driving me off of it. It seems like every company/jobsite i get linked up with is at least half comprised of burnouts who spend the day drinking, getting stoned, or talking shit about the women in their lives. (Theres a time and place) This might be naive to ask or expect of the trades but does literally anyone know how to avoid companies full of burnouts/drunks? Or is this something that i'm just going to have to take as a given with this line of work.
@MattBangsWood
@MattBangsWood 7 месяцев назад
I’ll be as transparent as I can with you - a lot of the guys that work for us, my Pops included, struggled with addiction at one point. I worked for a contractor when I was 19 that employed 20 or so random Craigslist hires, many of which were either hammered by 1PM or high on something. I never wanted that, I wanted to build out something where people are happy to go to work. Don’t hate the people they’re around.. You’re working for the wrong people, unfortunately it’s hard to find a good group, but I promise they’re out there.
@Bill_N_ATX
@Bill_N_ATX 7 месяцев назад
Sadly, it’s pretty rampant in the trades. I remember my grandfather and father, who were Ironworkers, often working hundreds of feet in the air, and they and their coworkers would often start the day with a couple snorts of whiskey just to “warm up”. Then as soon as they were off work, start the real drinking. Now, a lot of the larger companies, especially those working on larger contracts, have alcohol and drug policies with random tests and such. So it’s the small guys where the folks who need that bong hit in the morning migrate to. I worked with one company where we joked they drug tested regularly, just let them know which ones you wanted tested. Thankfully, they weren’t in a position or task where they could get someone killed or hurt.
@sawyertilley4469
@sawyertilley4469 7 месяцев назад
@@MattBangsWood Thanks for the reply Matt. Strangely enough it's comforting to know that i'm just finding the wrong companies. Keeps me hopeful about finding the right one. i'm still young so it's daunting sometimes to look at the trade as a future with what i've seen so far. But knowing theres better companies/groups out there keeps me motivated to find them.
