Marc wearing shoes - not sandals - raking cobble!!!! 😎SO, so excited to see this progress on the sewage system. 💪 Marc has done an amazing job designing this ecosystem. The chateau land won't know how lucky it is after all these centuries. And you can all have all the hot baths and toilets you want!

Congratulations, Amy and Marc, on being able to move forward. It must have been quite frustrating to wait for this to be finished; just in time to plant before the really cold weather comes, too. It's lovely to see your children growing up. Your property will be amazing when you've finished.

I would call that a "front end loader with a back hoe" or, as it was known on the farms in New Zealand, a drain digger.

Just some FYI.. my high school friend's father was stationed in the mideast desert during WWII.. He told me they did #1 in 18 inches of sand and it came out clear at the other end and they reused it. Must be in some army manual somewhere! either backhoe or excavator.. we use the excavator to build retainer walls and backhoe to move dirt. you are in a pickle.. it will all sort it self out in the end! Amy, whenever I go to the lumber store I ask for the tarps the lumber comes wrapped in.. Not sure if you have it.. I use those tarps for so much hauling around the farm.. Weeds etc.. But you could put it down before the gravel on the grass... Those tarps are heavy duty and much better than anything you buy.. and I get them for free here in Cda.

Oh that's good to get done, crap that Marc was so stressed. I didn't know about tipper buckets - it makes sense. Hopefully it wont smell, being that close to the house. Being a Brit, with no plant knowledge, I'd call it a digger or JCB. Interesting to see a modern version. It looked marginal - I don't think it wouldn't have been able to do it if it was any wetter.

My first thought for getting gravel and sand to the ponds was air conveying. The coarsest gravel might be a problem, but the sand is easy.
@LostGardensofChateauRosieres
@LostGardensofChateauRosieres 7 месяцев назад
Air conveying? It's not accessible by helicopter because of the forest.
@genelane2243
@genelane2243 7 месяцев назад
@@LostGardensofChateauRosieres no, not airdrop, air conveying. Lots of air keeps sand fluid and it can easily flow down a pipe to its destination. Just need enough 6" pipe to go from the sand pile to the ponds. Doesn't need to be straight.
@LostGardensofChateauRosieres
@LostGardensofChateauRosieres 7 месяцев назад
@@genelane2243 Ah I think that would have become very expensive due to the distance, and we've got large stones as well as sand and gravel. Also a large part of the problem would be loading the sand, gravel and stones actually into the pipes - there are several tons of it!

Why could you not get a hand winch and string up a cable system, scoop up gravel or sand, put in your rubber buckets with handles, and use the winch to send it up and down the hill?
@LostGardensofChateauRosieres
@LostGardensofChateauRosieres 7 месяцев назад
Firstly it would take a huge amount of time and cost quite a bit in resources, but also the slope is so long and steep that a single cable would not stretch taut, even if there were sufficiently large trees at the top and bottom. Remember it’s heavy stone and gravel. Also it would take forever to load buckets one by one. It would take a couple or solid weeks to move the sand and gravel like that. When we have hundreds of other projects going on at the same time it’s better to wait for the right equipment!
