LOCAL FILIPINO KITES. A CLASSIC FILIPINO GAME!
Known as Saranggola in Filipino and Tabanog in Bisaya, they are a lot of fun. I have seen them all over the country, but never made one myself. Until now! In this video, we take a look at how to make a kite in the Philippines.
Coconut broomsticks...
Rice for glue...
Newspaper, plastic, tape, and all sorts of unique tricks! This was my first time making one at home... and it was awesome!

90's kids what's up! i remember my childhood. I myself making a kite/tabanog and its so fun labi na kung naa kas baryo gapuyo mao gyud ni among lingaw pirmi. I used that cooked rice paste as a glue sometimes for my project in school if we dnt have any glues especialy when its late night and no time to buy. but the kids now a days only know how to operate gadgets 😂. long live batang 90's. stay safe God bless u all! truly in the province, summer is the season of kite making for us. and kudos to your effort in making tabanig the traditional way using rica as pilit sa papel and tukog for kite's frame. i remember during my childhood, my mother is always mad at me and making kusi or lusi ako sa talinga. coz her broomstick is literally getting used. we used it for making kite. how i miss those childhood days. super apir kulas! mao na diha

When glue is not available or affordable, Filipinos would use rice. It looks like you and Kumar are having so much fun. It would be cool to see you test those kites. “Rain, rain go away, little children wants to play.” Power on!

I have watched your vloggs...pretty impressed on how you showcase the beautiful islands of the Philippines. I commend you as you are a true pinoy to us. Other Filipinos who has the resources don't even do what you do. They travel to other countries and are so pretentious....they should be more proud of the beauty of the Philippines. As kids a long time ago, we used bamboo strips, it is sturdier. And for the materials, we used papel de Hapon papers which are colorful, thin yet tough and for the string, we use "cadena", the thread used for denim pants., it is light yet tough too. Your video brings back happy memories, Kulas, power on...

I used to make "tabanog" with my brother when we were young. We usually use plastic bags and plastic strings we pull off from rice sacks to tie it together. Our mom would get angry at us since her broom would lose a lot of "tukog" and it'll become inefficient when cleaning 🤣🤣🤣. Good job pn your first tabanog Kulas!...

Kyle, really loved this video. Funny, i saw a Sarangola flying on the beach yesterday that I filmed while walking on the beach collecting some shells. I love how you flew your drone by the kite... really catches the "feeling" i'm so amazed at how you can put soo many videos up .. like one a day.. It's killer! keep up the videos! really enjoy them! Kyle -- I think you just successfully sent the Filipinos in diaspora into a nostalgic tailspin. Great to see Kumar and Bret in good spirit. The meaning I got from watching grown men make kites was: It's never too late to be young again.

Nostalgia! I remember as a child (in the 80s!) my neighbour would make kites and use rice as glue! It was fascinating to watch back then.. and have not seen anyone use the same technique until now!

as a kid this is how i made simple square kites back in the early 80's. no glue or tape just the broom stick, paper, and rice with news paper. ones you master it we then graduate to the more bigger fighting kites. I am glad the tradition is still going on. We use to add broken pulverized glass to the kite string to make cutting the opponent kites faster lol.

Nice how to build tabanog 101. Hello Kyle n co... that's exactly how my friends n I build one. Only difference is we use bamboo strip shaved to a thin strip slightly thicker than coconut leaf spine. Works just fine. I've never seen one of Kumar's version tho😄😄😄. Well I'm sure his version is legit. It would have been fun to watch how they performed during test flight Btw we fly our kites during rice field off season when wide open space is available n wind backdrop is strong. Those were d fun days. Cheers...

Kite making was one of our classroom activity in my class. Kids surely enjoyed making their own kite especially the flying part!

My late father used to build me also one of these kites made from old newspapers. Then we fly them in an empty dry ricefields in a windy summer days.. Memories.

I remember our subdivision in Molino 2, Bacoor Cavite. Our subdivision "Lucky Ville" is right next to a rice field. In 1996, Bacoor Cavite was mostly rice fields and open so flying kites was enjoyable and memorable. Unfortunately, the right next to our subdivision was made into a residential property.

Deymm I really miss my younger age...I use to play that kite fight in the air...it's a serious game of kite fight hahaha I'm so addicted on that before because we just put some broken glass on our kite line..or in rope

I remembee my childhood when we were living alone in the middle of a vast ricefield. Sometimes no glue or paste, we use "bahaw" as glue on our kites. I didnt even know that there was this so called glue in the store. 🤣🤣🤣🤣Summer time is always full of fun like flying kites, catching grasshoppers while tending our carabao or goats. When the sun sets we play "bulan bulan" specially if it is full moon. TV was not that popular in the 80s...life is simple.. not stressful.. oh really appreciate provincial life in this Quarantine time. We are so blessed in life Kulas and thanks God for that. Power on!

i’m gonna comment in bisaya: while ga tan-aw ko sa imong video, dili malikayan nga gidala ko balik sa akong kagahapon niadtong bata pako, mag dula mi tabanog uban sa akong igsoon na lalaki kada summer sa amongkilid sa balay, ug grabe mi ka malipayon ! 😃 salamat kaayo kulas sa imong mga videos nga maka pahimoot kanako- watching from Dallas!

Hi Kulas, and puso or (kan-on) cook rice kai usa sa paagi nga gamiton sa mga pinoy if walai lain available. Options: paste, glue, zoy w/ water or kaon. Ang tukog for the (pamawog)arrow shape kai dapat pariha kahumokon (left and right) joint will be overlapped(about 2 inches) lang tarugo(the vertical centre structure) would be best if no joint, you may place to tukog together. Puso pronouce: PU + SO(sudden stop)

Dude I was raised in Tennessee mountains we never went to town..I was 12 when I finally went to town.. So My mom would help me and my sister make home made kits. This really brings back wonderful memories. .ty.
