it's a shame they don't put v8 engines in their cars anymore, and it´s also stupid they canceled the town car!!! thats like porsche canceling the 911!!
So ford went from a classed up police car to a mom-mobile, wtf ford, this is why I'm a Chevy guy (among other reasons) great vid Tho, best limousine building on RU-vid
Great show. Interesting to see what all goes into making a limousine. Only problem was that I own a 2005 Lincoln Town Car. An actual Town Car. This is no Town Car...
LCW is absolutely the best company to stretch limo personally had one of the stretched from LCW for over four years never had any problem whatsoever i highly recommend them and also they have a best customer service .
The MKT looks better as a limo than it does as production. I think it has the perfect limo profile and doesn't look ridiculously stretched out like the town car did. It's almost as though they designed this car knowing that many of them would be turned into limos
Nice video! I just wish Ford would bring back the Lincoln Town Car. This MKT is not that attractive. And the proof is in the numbers. Only about 7,000 of these sell per year compared to the Town Car which sold about $20,000+ per year.
I'm so disgusted with what Lincoln has done with their product line. They took away the Town Car, a staple in the limousine business. I have owned 5 town car's since the 90s. Now I don't even know what MKwhatever I see on the streets. The only way to tell it is a Lincoln is by getting close enough to see the Lincoln emblem. Now they've brought the Continental back. I'm not impressed. Bring the Town Car back. Cadillac is also confusing with their CT, EXwhatever. The only thing I know for sure is that an Escalade is still a Cadillac. I own a 2011 Cadillac DTS, and it still feels and looks like a Cadillac. Unfortunately like Lincoln did in the same year is drop the DTS and Lincoln dropped the Town Car. Sigh.
"Bring the Town Car back" I've heard that they're going to; I haven't heard a time frame. (I used to manage a small "special services" limousine company, and also worked for a large Dav El affiliate. I left to pursue another career just as the Town Car was being retired from Ford's lineup. When they introduced the so-called MKT "Town Car" and said it was in response to requests from the livery industry I could only shake my head in disgust and think "Who'd you talk to?")
Whats the point of making a "MKT (NOT Town Car) Limousine"? Why not just use a Navigator, this is useless its not a town car, its ugly, you might as well put your effort into making a Ford Escape a limo, because thats what it is.
I'm not an expert with engineering cars but here's what I think could be done to transform a standard everyday family sedan into a limousine!!! so please bear with me & correct me if I'm wrong!!! say you want to make a 2020 Cadillac CT6-V Limited i-TRAC AWD 6.2 t-Turbo V8 4-Dr Luxury Sedan (LHD) into a 38.3 in. stretched limousine!!! you need to procure 2 pre owned or lightly damaged Cadillac CT6-V Limited i-TRAC AWD 6.2 t-Turbo V8 4-Dr Luxury Sedan (LHD) from a scrap yard, one that hasn't been scrapped as yet!!! cut out the mid floor section including the full B-Pillar from the 2 donor Cadillac CT6-V Limited i-TRAC AWD 6.2 t-Turbo V8 4-Dr Luxury Sedan (LHD) & weld each other to the length you intend to stretch!!! and then weld the new floor section back onto the front & rear section of the car that you've already cut out for the stretch!!! agreed it's a time consuming complex job but it's worth the effort & money!!! please advise!!!
I still can't figure out for the life of me why they didn't decide to make it the MKS instead of the MKT. I mean... go from big car to next biggest car, not big car to crossover-ish... SUV-hearse... type thing... what?!?!
Not to sound overly critical but this video seemed more gimmicky than informative for something coming from Popular Mechanics. Whoever created the thought bubbles coming from no one's head in particular and calendar graphics deserves a raise or at least a personal parking space.
Awesome video guys! I found this to be very interesting and liked how you also used an MKT compared to a DTS or Town Car. You see very few MKT stretches around...
if i was wealthy i would much rather spend my money on valuable muscle cars and a few super/hyper cars rather than a limo! driving is an enjoyable task in which i love!
Don't go in the Limo. Of cause it means that you can share the bill with like 10 mates, but it will also mean that you look like a really generic student at a prom. Everyone arrives in a stretched Limo. If anything find someone locally who owns a classic car and ask him to drive you there for 20 quid and a case of beer. If you don't know many then contacting classic car clubs are usually the way forward. Though drinking champagne in the back of his pride and joy might not be allowed : D
It's supposed to be a limousine! Why the hell does it look so tacky? I have not seen an elegant looking limousine in decades. All you're doing is basically stretching a SUV and adding little lights and glitter. It would feel right at home if it was in Las Vegas.
ecoRfan I call these the poor-man's limousine because these are usually rented for low class social events like proms, bachelor parties, or when a tacky criminal finds himself with enough wealth to rent one and show off his mediocre sense of style.
