It's time to start looking at scenics.
I wanted to get some kind of platform onto the layout since I've now laid track for the station.
I'm not experienced at all in scenic work / modelling though so it had to be something I felt I could take on in what is my first actual modelling project.

Looking good 👍 Another great video. Its given me some inspiration as I'll soon be tackling the same task. I've not had much spare time since Christmas but will be getting back up into the loft soon. Keep up the good work. Regards Yorkshire junction 🚂

Thanks Yorkshire - looking forward to more on your new build. Life gets in the way sometimes, and I do think it's good to have the odd break from it too, it always seems a bit more fun after some time off. Regards, Chris

I think overall thats a pretty effective platform, looks the part and the way you have done it can always add brick paper/card later if desired, or just leave it as is and watch trains go past.

Thanks Dale! I think it is OK for a beginner, and like you can say I can replace bits, add detail, later. Good to just get something on there. Regards, Chris

Thanks Scott! As an absolute beginner with no confidence in my modelling skills that means a lot! Regards, Chris

I specifically watched this video because I was thinking of making a platform using the same technique, so you have proved the concept. We are all able to teach others, no matter our level.

Be wise to put a bit of Cork under track before fixing it down.

Ah! Sorry, the horse has well and truly bolted there, track is all screwed down now. Thanks for the tip though! Chris

@WirenwoodModelRailway reduces the vibration noise especially in attic, its only to late if you have ballasted.

The noise doesn't actually bother me I have to say. Cork would be difficult now because of the lower deck and incline, lower deck is hard to get at so couldn't lay it everywhere and I'm not sure I could manage the height increase in the top deck! Regards, Chris

Nice looking platforms! I started with some cut pine at 120cm long, 9cm wide and 18mm high brought straight from the hardward shop. I have made my own since then using off cuts of corflut sheets. Was really easy to cut and the layers just stuck together with PVA. I wrapped it in Metcalf brick sheets to form the walls, painted the tops in grey acrylic and stuck some platform edging strips on. (My MK4 coaches had a clearance issue when the platform was on the inside) Can't wait to see how yours turn out. Cheers, Andy

Thanks Andy and yeah I do have a platform that will have to curve on the inside so I'll be keeping a close eye on those mk3 and 4s when I get that far. I bet that looks good, I was a bit nervous about sticking paper to it but once I get a bit of confidence going can always come back. Regards, Chris

@@gppsoftwareThanks Graham - Code 100 here due to lots of old rolling stock still hanging around. I'll get back to you on measurements! Chris

Platforms looking good. You might want to try a mark 3 coach entering the platform, I think they might be longer than the loco and/or have a bigger overhang.

Thanks The Jeffroid! That seems a bit ... Red Dwarf! Anyway thanks for the tip, I hurriedly climbed up to the loft and checked, a mk3 and a mk4. Couple of mm clearance so looks like I got away with it, more through luck than judgement. Thanks for the tip off. Regards, Chris

how about a road bridge under the end of platform section (that would tie in with the station approach road) a kinda lower level street

Hi Calvin, I think that's an excellent idea and something I'd been thinking about too. In fact, there may well be far better minds than mine working on something for that area at the moment. No promises, but watch this space. Or that space! Regards, Chris
