A little squirt of denatured alcohol will help the double sided tape release. Pry up just a corner and dribble a little alcohol under the tape and capillary action will draw the alcohol down the seam and dissolve the adhesive.

Thanks Chris, This was super helpful. As I recently got my own CNC machine, these are all processes I'm learning how to do.

I could watch the CNC work all day! Seeing the CA glue spraying as you're inserting the fret markers is a great reminder to wear glasses when doing that type of work.

Fantastic video and super informative as usual! One trick for removing the double sided tape that Schecter’s custom shop uses is applying acetone to the sides of the tape… this way you wouldn’t have to struggle in pulling off the fretboard and reduce the probability of accidentally pulling too hard and damaging the wood. Credit to Rob Scallon for going through and documenting the step by step process! Definitely worth checking out that video

I’ve never damaged a fretboard (400 or so at last count). I try to avoid using acetone in my shop for health reasons.

@@HighlineGuitars totally fair! And to be clear I wasn’t saying you have damaged the fretboards, I was saying that there’s a probability that might happen if one isn’t careful. I’m sure you take great care in handling your work and I have a lot to learn from you (and have been learning a ton already from watching your videos)

Beautiful wood. I am researching my very first attempt at a guitar build. No kit. I want an exotic wood laminated neck-through baritone electric. It would be nice to have that CNC machine cut my fretboard with a compound radius. Thanks for the videos and inspiration!

Chris I love your videos. One I'd like to see related to CNC is a video walking through the entire process of using the software to design a neck using the CAD software. I've played with various free apps and have tried to design something like a neck, with the curves, etc., and have had no luck. CAD software seems to be totally unintuitive to me and probably many others. Having a video showing the tips and tricks would be invaluable! Thanks!!!

Another great video Chris, very helpful to have the feeds and speeds or the fret slot cutting. My one attempt to use a 0.5mm bit broke the bit whilst probing for the Z axis zeroing so I have some work to do to get that right! Do you use a roundnose bit for the fretboard radius or is the standard end mill adequate?
@jaylumley7676
@jaylumley7676 Год назад
Always enjoy these. I use a similar setup for fret slotting. However, I tend to break these tiny bits even with a slower feed than you and less depth of cut (0.15 mm). I would be interested to know your bit supplier... I use a 4-way (hole) and 2-way (slot) on my blank that align to my hole spacing on my waste board to position repeatably.

Congratulations for your works and for your methodical and detailed way of organizing your work. In the previous videos you explained how to position the pieces to be machined on the cnc, but how does the system you use to fix the wooden blocks to the martyr surface work? Have you made any videos about it that I can check out? thanks in advance for your time and your answer
@HighlineGuitars

The waste board has brass threaded inserts in it for screwing down the clamps.
@marcopandozziliutaio
@marcopandozziliutaio Год назад
@@HighlineGuitars I'm sorry, does the diameter of the threaded inserts affect the grip of the clamps? From the video they look like 6mm (1/4"), is that correct? Otherwise, can you give me some suggestions regarding the size of the inserts? Thanks again

Do the depth of the fret slots mirror the radius of the fretboard? Or are they just cut a constant depth as if you were cutting them on a table saw or with a hand saw?
@HighlineGuitars

Hi Chris...do you have a preferred brand of CNC bit for your fret slotting ? I seem to break mine very easily.....at even lower feed rates and DoC than you are using......thanks, Chris.
