We are building a Pig Pen for our feeder pigs. We picked up 2 Hampshire cross piglets a couple weeks ago and have been keeping them in the barn. It is time to move these hogs outside on dirt and grass. We are building the pig pen out of stock panels and T-posts. We used Zip Ties to secure everything together. We also used cattle panels to make a hoop house for the pigs. We secured it to rebar stakes in the ground with zip ties to hold it in place. We finished it off with a some electric fence to train the pigs to what it is. Later we will make there pig area bigger only using electric fence. So they need to learn to stay away from electric fence.

From one pig owner to another, I would put a fence around the tree in the middle of the pen because as the hogs grow, they will kill the tree from their rooting. I built my first pens around trees for shade but they killed them. Try to find a 55 gallon plastic drum and get a gravity fed hog watering nipple. As they grow they will dump the water pales to make mud holes. Keep up with the good videos 😁😁

I’ve had hogs for 2 years in an area surrounding a tall oak. That tree is not dying at all and seems to be growing from their manure and constant water supply. I do muck the pen into the compost pile too. Got seriously rich compost from it after about a year of sitting to process.

We originally we going to place them in an area with some trees, but they was no electricity or water nearby. It was also a dark location with no dust till dawn lights nearby. So we choose near the barn. We would prefer to run them in the trees.

You can use your 4 wheeler or lawn tractor and pull a cattle panel to smooth your garden out if you decide to use pigs to till it...

You are knocking those 2019 goals off left and right! Good job! edit: Here's a video of an animal shelter made of pallets. The guy has other videos building the pallet shelters and installing the roofing. BTW, I like the names "Pork Chop" and "Bacon Bit." They are really going to enjoy all that room to run around in in their new pen.

Just an idea you can take the panels and a few T post and make a portable pen in your garden area and use your hogs to till your garden in the spring...always put your panels on the inside of your post they'll go to the fence and will push and rub against it the post on the outside will take stress off of the panels....plus I noticed that hogs will move as far away from their feed troughs and water in the pen to do their business the don't like to mess in their eating area.

The Apple trees are doing good. It looks like we will get apples this year. But for some reason, the white peaches didn't produce much fruit, and they have been the strong performers in the past.

Just a suggestion, I would put a post in the middle of those sections now because when your pigs get bigger they will push there way out. Even though you have a electric wire around the bottom.

When using hog or cattle panels I attached the panels with UV resistant Zip Ties strong enough and easier than regular wire ties

I would get a hog trap and feed and water them in it. They will get used to it very quickly, once its market day they go in to eat and then you close the back side of the trap, use a winch and winch the trap into the back of the truck or trailer. Hogs are loaded. easy peasy japanesey.

Our electric fence was so strong that it burn the grass wherever it touched. When we touched it you knew it. That is how we checked it , put a blade of grass on the wire and what form the shock.

Yea, I would like to know how strong a fence charger it has to be to burn the grass off. That would be handy when I have a lot of electric fence. Less Weed-eating.
