BUILDING A PIPE RACK OUT OF LEFTOVER PIPE TO ORGANIZE MY BACKYARD PIPE YARD. It’s time to get organized! My pipe yard and drop off of jobs has gotten a little out of hand in our driveway so today I’m building a pipe rack and talking through the 6010 downhill weld from cap to bead as I work.

Hey Austin great video. I’ve been welding for 25 years and what helps me when putting pipe together is using angle-Iron. That decreases all hi/low. It’s just what I do. Keep up the burning rod. Doing great.

Mr Ross sir, I’ve been really getting into your youtube videos lately and you’ve been inspiring me to be a better welder, I struggled on verticle uphill on 1/8 rod for 7018 and seeing your video on welding hinges for gates really helped me, I just happend to have a competition for ag mechanics in the state of California for state finals and I placed 2nd in the state on the welding portion because of my vertical uphill on 7018 and other welds and just wanna say thank you for inspiring me and motivating me to be a better welder i can be

6010 should be run uphill for lots of reasons. Way harder to learn but worth it.

@Nick Dee how come pipeliners run it downhill? Speed. But, it also X-rays when they run it downhill.
@nickdee5764
@nickdee5764 2 года назад
@@haroldphipps3457, no doubt it’s faster downhill but the weld bead is thinner and your slag inclusion is greater because your constantly fighting gravity pulling unfrozen slag into your puddle. Learn uphill and never have to grind or “patch” over a section again.
@haroldphipps3457
@haroldphipps3457 2 года назад
@Nick Dee I understand that. FACT remains, damn near 100% of pipeline welds are done down. I prefer up as well. I have always been wondering why pipeliners weld down. But I've never been a pipeline weldor.

When fitting 10’ or less joints, I found it easier for me to use 3 jack stands total. The center jack stand on the weld itself. I find it easier to square/true up the joints to each other. May or may not work for everybody. Just something I like to do. See what you think.

I always mooned a pipe. If you have a full moon when you look down the inside of a pipe you are straight. The outside of a pipe is hard to tell. Gun barrels used to be forged with hexagons so they could make them straight.

I love your cat and your addition of him in your videos. The first time I saw him, I thought it was my cat that I had to bury last December. Same color hair, same face, even the same cut off tail. My cat got his tail stripped from a greyhound dog and we had to have it amputated. That cat had more personality than most people and he was good for me and my wife. He always seemed to know when we were needy. Thanks for the great videos. I just stumbled on your channel 3 days ago and I love it.

Pipe is measured on the inside diameter. Tubing is measured outside. Not a big deal, but when you've done it one way for 50 years, it really naws on me when you say it backwards. Sorry

Hi Austin, am new to your channel. I like the way you handle the project. I do project my self and I thought I mite mention the way I do pipe welding. I do have stands just like you have, the only difference I modify where the pipe rest. I made bracket with 2 ball bearrings and weld it on top of stand. I rest the pipe on the stand and now I dont have to get on my kneas to weld the bottom part of pipe. I just slowly turn the pipe around. Keep up the good work. Paul from California 👍

One 10 lb. can of your finest 5P+ please! Edit: Hey man, thank you for making welding videos, I’ve followed you since your lining days. The welds look great but why downhill with the 5P? I learned downhill but as soon as I was confident enough running uphill I never looked back. What ya say on learning to vertical 5/32s? For me I think it makes running a 1/8 way easier when you learn how to carry all that metal. Mild steel and Low Hi. Just thought I’d ask what you think.
@colt10mmsecurity68
@colt10mmsecurity68 Год назад
Austin, I’m surprised you don’t use the less expensive process of oxy/propane for cutting. I dumped acetylene (becasue I don’t weld with that process ever) and have never looked back. Yeah you go through more 02, but that’s cheap compared to a cylinder of acetylene. Propane lasts about 4:1 large cylinders of oxygen. It’s much cheaper and cuts through everything. I was originally hesitant and had a slight learning curve to find a neutral flame, as it’s a little different than finding a neutral flame with acetylene. But now I love it and will never go back. Plus with oxy/propane, you don’t have to worry about the “1/7 rule” when discharging an acetylene tank.

Just curious, but when welding steel so thick, why don't you use 5/32" or even 1/4" electrodes since they're thicker and would need less passes. I'm not a pro welder just curious I'm also assuming your welder can put out enough current.

When I see you or others burn 6010 it doesn’t seem to spark and splatter near as bad, but when I run 6010/6011 they are like sparklers. Maybe it’s the camera, filtering it out. 7018 burns so nice and smooth compared to 6010. But watching others burn 6010 it doesn’t splatter near as much (so it seems)

Hi Austin, I was wondering if you could do a review on the left dial and the right dial, like when would you normally turn it up or down. Also how do you set it to use for remote. Do you leave the right dial on 0 and the left one on a setting depending the size of pipe? I have a SAE 300 mp and I’m still a bit confused when it comes to those two settings. I’ve been searching for a video that gives me a better understanding but I haven’t found one. I just want to be able to understand my machine a bit more, it was a big investment 😅.
