The anchor mount is called an excentric bolt used to center the shoe in the drum , as the drum wears contact of the show is on one end. We called these shoes , P style,. We also had a gauge to measure the drum and the shoes to get the adjustment close so one didn't have to take the drum on and off. it was common practice years gone by to shim the lining on the shoe sometimes called a table when the drums were worn oversized. A thing of the past not many drum brakes used todays automobiles. Return spring common to yours were used on steer axel air brake systems. THAT'S what it's called! Thanks Ed, just couldn't conjure up the right name for it at the time... Interesting info on setting the shoes too. A lot of that common knowledge is lost now a days with so many things having disc brakes. Of course now I can keep it on mind since so many of the older equipment I work on still does.

Father's Day tractor show years ago we end up picking up a Jacobsen tractor quite different of a tractor like the norm. Unfortunately the engine has a slight nock two it I'm hoping in the future I can get it rebuilt do you think they are fixable when the crank has a slight knock?
I think you did a FINE job as you always do. I never had any experience with those although they had to be here somewhere. Looks like a very strong built rig with the gear rear end and chain reduction. Hope there's a hole to drip some oil on the chain somewhere and all the grease fittings are right up my alley. Hope is going well and the calluses are getting even thicker. Maybe for a flat top but I don't think a 5-string builds them very fast but hope you're picking all you want to! HI to all there and everything is still waiting on you. I finally got outside and did a little and got stuff started. Felt GOOD to finally get outside! Rain now and a cold front coming to freeze all the buds and blossoms but it comes every year. Keep after it and God Bless Yall!
We got 2 maybe 3 more gigs booked between now and Aug (one of which is our tractor show). That's big doin's for us since it's usually 1 gig or so a year. That Deering Deluxe is going to get a workout! Nothing like getting out for some early spring tinkering, sure beats being trapped like a duck in a pen... After having an almost snow-less mild winter, we're finally catching up... got a nice storm blowing through today. Guess He wasn't going to let us off easy! Thanks Lewie!
@@5Tractorguy Sounds like the Tractor Show might put yall on the Opry and I think Deering can send you another tone ring if you melt that one down. We've just got maybe 2 dustings so far this winter (if you want to even call it that) and we usually get a little bit but not this time. It better hurry if it's going to do something. It'll be garden time in just a bit but I've seen snow on dogwood blooms before. I even got out and mowed the high spots in the yard the other day. My job security is starting! So happy snow plowing, Buddy. We're all blessed more than we know.
Turned out real nice. I'm not sure, but I may have just figured out what rear-end I have in one of the home made tractors I purchased awhile back. It kinda looks like the same one as your panzer.
Yeah you looked a little constricted on it as I would be, what a neat machine. Those hub pullers could be gotten fairly cheap 10 or so years ago not so much any more. If you keep an eye on ebay you may be able to pick up the 3 leg.
At the least the dang steering wheel needs to be closer! Though I suppose I should use my lanky arms for something... Believe this one had a name stamped into it. Going to have to check now and keep and eye out. An extra leg would be handy as ever.
my Dad bought one of these, I think late ‘60s, primarily to mow a sizable yard. I grew up spinning wrenches on it. Rebuilt the engine a few times, but never had to service the brakes, as they were rarely used. A funky machine for sure with that big Chrysler automotive rear end and that silly drive shaft with pulleys and a reverse using a rubber friction disc was an anachronism. However, it was very reliable and easy to fix. Without a mower deck on it, a young man could pull crazy wheelies on pavement. I spent many hours cutting grass with it, so much so that it was partially responsible for most of my hearing loss…..I was too dumb to use hearing protection….🗣️ 🦻

Tractor runs great man !!! I really need to find a Panzer for my collection one day, they are a sweet little machine. So I guess you have to shut the engine off to flop the belts over to change gears on these things ?
Thanks! That ol' K181 is a good runner! Yep, that's the only hassle about running these things is the speed change. Unless you're handy with a flat-head screwdriver haha.

I enjoyed this series a lot, Jake. It's always great to watch you work. Panzers are non-existent in Canada, but it would be so neat to have one with an adapted Sears 3 point hitch for garden use. It's nice how you always take the time to get a few good camera angles while you have the machines in action. What are you using for camera gear these days?
Hey Thanks Rory! They must not've been distributed north of the boarder, too bad. Bet you could find plenty of uses for one moving stuff around. Nothing too special, Canon PowerShot SX720HS. Had it for about 5yrs now. Simple point and shoot camera that fits the bill for pictures and video work.

So happy to see you back again. I have wanted to ask you about starting a small engine repair biz as well as doing ,mobile welding and fabrication. I guess by what I mean fabrication is being able to machine parts for tractors and equipment. How do you advertise? Can you suggest a few starter tips. I have always looked up to you. I found one of those lincwelders that you had in a scrapyard and am rebuilding it. I think it might have been better where it was..lol
Thanks John, Hmm, I'll do my best, may be long winded here... When I first started this biz in 2011, I advertised through Craigslist in the farm and garden section. At the time, CL still saw a lot of traffic and it was easy enough pick up work (how I built and grew my customer base). Now with FB marketplace, CL sees hardly any views. You can always opt for a FB page or ad if you want. Personally I can't stand the dumb flack/laziness people come up with on FB when inquiring about biz services so I still run ads on CL. In the process of getting a formal website up this spring too. Also word of mouth and leaving biz cards at local shops (barber, hardware store, etc) is good too. Network with other repair shops when you can, stuff they don't want you can take on. On the repair side, make sure you hold firm to how you charge the customer and what you do/don't want to work on. Joe Homeowners are really good about having t-rex hands when reaching for the wallet and will beat you up on prices- do not give in... ever. Out on the road most guys will pay because they understand what's involved. Same with commercial equip guys because they're also in biz. Machining parts for tractors is a good idea! Just keep in mind the off the shelf cost vs. your fab time if the part is still available for purchase. Hopefully this helps. It's rewarding and fulfilling as heck running your own biz. And if you want it bad enough, you'll find a way to make it work!
It’s fairly easy (and free) to setup up a Google business page which also generates a free website. I manage my own Pest Control business and a good friend has an independent towing business that I run for him (at no charge). Some years back I had a very nice GoDaddy website but people didn’t ever check it out so I let it go. Google is all that is needed in addition to word of mouth. I also made Magnetic business cards and pens to hand out to customers. And people are absolutely CHEAP, be very upfront and firm on your price.

I have one of those Lincwelder 225's that you have and I am trying to restore it. When I saw you bring one home I saw one in a scrapyard and now mine is almost completely done.. I also found a 1983 Yamaha trimoto three wheeler in that scrapyard and more parts in a barn. I am going to rescue it and restore it as my first video on my YT channel. I will keep you in the loop. Your frame and the Panzer's frame difference did not go un-noticed Jake, all it did was bring a smile to my face,... my Son on my ride-on mower tractor presents a similar picture. :) I never have seen a Panzer Garden Tractor up close before, it's a brand that I am not familiar with. It seems to be very well ( sturdily ) built. Do you recall what these cost back then?
Not built for lanky guys haha! The are stout little tractors (weight around 575 if I remember correctly). As for price, I can't find anything in the paperwork here or online for pricing. Would imagine comparable to other manufactures at the time?

Unfortunately not Justin. Looked at a place in Jaffrey (the old Jaffrey Fireworks) end of Dec. Had a couple of nice Morton buildings, but the property was just a mess... still on the hunt. Planning to set up a Dublin this year. Bernardston is tentative. Flag me down if ya see me!
Forgot to get back to you on this... From the ends of the axle shafts they're 32". The mounting flanges for the brake backing plates are 23". Hopefully that get ya close!
