Also with the driver inverted so close to the port. You could wire directly to the driver. No need for a terminal cup. It actually provides more quality to the signal path.

That is a perfect sized sub for most home applications. I could incorporate tactical toddler-proof chicken wire into the mouth of the horn & actually have A SPEAKER in my living room again! When aforementioned baby boy tippy-toed & touched the lower edge of the Fostex's surround, my Hexibase-designed main horns were whisked away at a frightening velocity; citing Space-X metrics. I believe the next mains will be twin 18" MTM dipoles, NATO-grade chicken wire defended, 30mm granite baffles & feet, built to withstand 9/11 grade, self-inflicted, insurance-claimed explosives; or an 18 month old. Oh, Pete, I have a design request for a set of 80w LaVoce FSN041.00's. That aside, we just got a new waverunner and a house almost 2 yrs ago. It's time yall took a vacation this spring or summer & visit for a break & some great food. Chat soon, hit me up on messenger or 3344006144. Miss you both.

You got me at Tapped Horn. I’ve built several tapped horns for the Tang Band W6-1139SIF 6-1/2". In another life I built competition car audio systems and those systems seem sloppy and inefficient compared to what we can achieve with small drivers and tapped horns. The demos really conveyed how well that enclosure performs.

This is the sign of great installer/box builder/designer. When I first got into car audio back in the 80's I met an old audiophile who showed me that proper box design and build quality matters more than the amount of money you spend on subs. He could make cheap subs from Radio Shack sound just as good if not better than the name brands.

Vintage audio tech here. Great video. Beautiful construction. Just one observation, if I may. It's not a horn. It's a folded transmission line. That doesn't mean it's not a good bass cabinet, it's just not a horn. Horns are acoustic transformers that must follow a specific "flare rate" to work, and they tend to be quite large when called upon to work below a few hundred hertz. A true horn that is good to 30 Hz or so would be too big for one person to move. There are those who argue that the cabin of a car works as a horn for bass, but that's not true. It does provide considerable "cabin gain" because it is a mostly-sealed box with dimensions smaller than the wavelengths of bass notes, so it acts as a constant-pressure environment. But that doesn't make it a horn.

Nice work! Note that on a bass “horn” or waveguide, it’s not necessary to have smooth radiused turns. In fact, you want the turns to have sharp corners so that they act as low pass filters for the mid range and high frequencies from escaping the mouth of the horn. Smooth corners on waveguides only needed for mid range and up horns. So building with traditional flat sheets/panel construction will yield sharp corners and save on material waste. Assuming you want the sub to work below 100Hz, the characteristic wavelength of 100Hz sound waves is 3.4m long. So a sharp corner or a round corner of a few inches isn’t “seen” by the wave - it’s acoustically transparent at that frequency.

I have a suggestion for a potential future project. Something that I've been looking for, but have been unable to find anywhere on RU-vid or commercially available. A powerful subwoofer system designed for an electric vehicle; incredible focus on amplification, woofer, and enclosure efficiency. I have been a lifelong basshead, who has transitioned to an electric car. I miss the 25Hz "feel" of my last 12" 1ohm, large volume, ported enclosure... But I just can't see installing a system like this which I am sure will rapidly drain my battery. Anyway, just food for thought. I believe this is an incredibly overlooked market segment at this time and in the near future!!

Love your work. My grandfather built a bass transmission speaker system that had 12 inch paper cone woofers on a transmission line, it was way ahead of its time. I have always loved my sound and especially the science behind it. With subwoofers and bass and ever since seeing the Bose wave Radio alarm clock do its thing with its transmission line keep up with floor standing speakers I was set to do the same and now have a split level house where i have a massive area behind the back wall of my loungeroom to run a horn / transmission line woofer or subwoofer .. not just on a paper cone 12 inch which shook half the street, and btw your box and speaker sounds great, and well done getting that sound to play for us. My Horn / Transmission line will be based of a Paradigm Sub 25 Driver with an estimated transmission line length of 20 - 40 meters that transmission line is going to be a Basshorn style ontop (from memory 30hz needs 20+ meters before the wave completes, then 20hz 30 meters + i think?, people forget that bass needs to travel a good distance to complete the wave and to be able to "hear it" not "feel it" > it will be about 2 - 3 years till its done with this project but have the equipment ready expect all the MDF. Currently have a Paradigm SUB25 and got a spare SUB 25 driver only and fitted it in a ported comp box also. so 2 SUB 25's one with origional box and amp 3000 watts / 7000 watt peak Sealed and the one I put together, the SUB 25 Driver, in a massive Comp Ported box with a Velodyne SC1250 2500 watts / 5000 watt peak , the ported system is what I am going to do that project with. Your Video and the knowlegde you have was refreshing as alot of channels know how to make a SUB move and sure they get good kits to show off, but unlike yourself they don't understand some of the science and whats really important for good bass, your video makes me want to get th MDF and kick it off. 3000 watt 7000 watt Transmission Horn Bass Box, but the 5500 watts or 12000 watt peak of bass gets us by now. But your little Bass horn impresses me more, hats off.

Thank you Sir! My current setup is a denon x250bt paired to a set of psb alpha lr1 + subzero subzero i powered sub. Not the sharpest tool in the shed but it keeps a simple man like me more than satisfied. And it managed to expose the weak points around my window and door frames while playing the audio from your 4" sub. Love your content because of your scientific approach, modern techniques and easy to follow narration. Thanks again!

A sub that makes tons of bass with out the annoying boom! I guess 4 inch's is enough depending on listening positions.

Man, if the sound coming out of my Klipsch with an 8" is any kind of an accurate representation of what your box is putting out, that shit is impressive!

That bass...if I had one word to describe it,it would be "visceral". I used my Moondrop SSP IEMs to listen to the test tracks in this video

@@HexiBase Thank you! They certainly aren't the best, but they're one of the nicer IEMs I've listened to imo within its price bracket (50 USD and under).

I watched this on my uconnect 5.0 in dash radio 7watts per channel. The speakers are kicker CSC693 92db sensitive. I have sound treated the doors installed acoustic foam wave guides and installed the same foam over dynamat to eliminate back waves. I had the speakers running without amplification and without any crossover. I had my volume set at 18 out of 42 because at volume 20 there is bass roll off. At volume 18 the kicker CSC693 3 way speakers were creating significant SPL reproducing your audio. My interior panels were moving in tune with your tapped horn. I could feel it in my chest. I believe I was feeding my speakers between 4 and 5 watts RMS each full range signal.

I suggest using the laser to maker a template for cutting the pieces with a router next time. Much quicker for sure. Great vid:)
