Peter harvests material from the forest and constructs a wood shed for the 1700's pioneer homestead. Using the tools and techniques available to the first settlers, he cuts the trees with axe and bow saw. He measures using his tumpline and peels the logs using his draw knife. He then drags or carries the material from the bush. He runs into a problem digging the post holes, when he finds an immoveable rock.

Full disclosure: I don’t care a wit that you occasionally use “store bought” nails or a shovel not perfectly exact to the time you’re representing. I just LOVE your videos. In fact, I would sit and watch your work all day…I just realized as I wrote that how it might sound. I mean to say that they are peaceful, informational, beautifully filmed and always humbly presented by you, Peter. Your videos transport me in time and place to a hard but fulfilling time where life was difficult but the value of it cherished. Thanks, Peter for another great one!

I am so glad to have come across your channel. I have a small homestead off grid and limited income. I've been trying to find ways to get things done around here, like a decent wood shed, by making it myself with what I have here. That's a fine looking wood shed. In my super dry climate, I figure 10 years for pine, 15 to 20 years for juniper, and 30+ years for cedar in the ground. But in reality I don't really care because if a post rots I just replace it. No big deal, LOL. I've been peeling logs today myself. It's for a fence.

all looking good, you sir are a fine workman. Consider.. if you did this again, you can put your rails INSIDE the 4 main posts and you can use an auger and pegs to save nails, with the rails inside the firewood can lean hard against it with out fear of tumbling out.... how hot is it out there??? I don't like seeing that dayfog on your pond, too humid.. LOL starting to cool here, back under 90

Lovely content. I really love the advice and tips you have to offer. I love that you don’t need a level, or a tape measure, a plumb bob, and many other ‘necessities’ of today’s builds. You use your eye as a guide in your builds and they turn out amazing. What was that quote you said previously about no good measure supersedes the eye? Or something to that effect? I loved that saying, and I try and incorporate that when I’m building things. Im currently building a pole barn shed, and need to work on the roof next. I like the use of the shims and will likely do that for mine. Thanks, and keep the helpful building tips coming!
