In this video we pour the footings, and remaining foundation walls to continue moving forward on this addition project. This is a 18x24 addition. We also damp proof the foundation walls. We use a steel ply type concrete form, similar to symons

That was refreshing to see someone actually tie the horizontal rebar so it stays in the center of the wall vs dropping it in as you go and get what you get. My dad and I built some houses over the years and caught a little guff for going above and beyond, but we never had to go back and fix anything and we documented (pics) as we went to show people what was in their house and most of the houses were sold before we were done or gone in less than a week when we were done. Our original trade was masonry and I remember like it was yesterday! Even as a little kid lugging bricks and blocks to my dad so he could lay them. My dad will be gone 21 years this year and I retired 10 + years ago. People that have never done it can't understand how the work gets in your blood almost like a drug. I miss construction and I miss dad everyday, where did the time go...

I always fretted of running short of concrete on a pour so I too would order an extra 1/2 yard or so. My father-in-law gave me a tip years ago. We'd set up a small 2x4 form of say 3 foot wide by the length being adjustable (left unscrewed). If we had extra cement, we would pour into that adjustable form and finish it like a piece of sidewalk. Later on I would pick it up with the tractor and place it somewhere we wanted a walk pad, such as in front of a gate, or a barn door or shed door. Never felt like I was "wasting" concrete after that. Great job, love the videos! Jim.

Hi Jess, long time sub, been in the construction biz over 40 years, I appreciate your attention to detail, most folks that take pride in their work are like that, myself included. This stuff ain’t easy, otherwise libtards would be doing it, ( no apology for the peps that feel offended or feel someone owes them something) I admire your diligence and the perseverance to give the customer the product they deserve and pay for. I found your site through Camarata, I watch and like all your vids. Both you guys rock, although I have to admit Andrew has a heavier hand , he gets it done however you for the most part you demonstrate on video more attention to detail, you are the finish hammer, he is the sledge hammer. I wouldn’t change a thing, we’re all different. Noticed you both are from the same neck of the woods. I was up your way back in the 70’s and totally enjoyed the area. I’m gettin old and wish in a way my body was as young as my mind. However you both give me hope for the next generation. I applaud both, and the folks that raised you, we are a lot alike. Stay the course, keep doing what you are doing and you will always be successful due to the principles you apply. If I chose to build anything in the NE ( the land of never ending taxes) I would definitely look both of you up. You Rock! Stay the course, hard work never hurt anyone. That’s how our country was founded and is what it is today. Respectfully, Jack

I'm surprised Andrew didn't help Jesse on this job especially the excavating part since Andrew has a much larger excavator. Jesse sure helped him a lot with putting the metal roof on the castle. Maybe I missed something don't know. Jack R Better you said it correctly, Jesse is the finish hammer and Andrew is the sledge hammer, love watching both channels. Both guys are hard working men, not expecting any handout!

Back in the 70's my dad owned a set of textured form that looked like brick. They were some type of aluminum alloy. We used form release oil cut with diesel fuel. We always built the complete wall as we went. We had 2x4 braces but my dad made adjusters for them using angle iron welded to the threads on a turnbuckle. The angle iron had holes sized for a 16# nail. He also had 1.5-2' piece of channel to lay on the ground and attach the turnbuckle end to. this channel had two holes sized for a standard concrete form stake. It made tweaking the walls before and after the pour real easy. No vibrator either as we were always in the sticks so we used at least 1.5"x8' dowel rod to puddle with. We didn't even have a generator but dad did splurge on some type 12V motor/generator that ran off the van battery. We did have at least 2' Homelite two-smoke pump for flooded basements. That thing could really move water and surprising how much water you can pump out of a foundation excavation when it's maybe 1" deep.

Brings back a lot of memories. I worked in construction for a few years a long time ago...and built with the the same type panels to build concrete walls. It was always fun pulling off the forms to reveal the new walls. Explaining the components and wedges would have been better while you assembled the wall for those who have not seen it done.

@@bahnrokt Better yet ........... Aluma LITE (Harsco LITE handset) would be the next generation of those forms - 30% lighter, go up in less time and still are as flexible and modular ... great product .... but expensive compared to an older form system like that - but it's likely paid for and works ....

I’m amazed at how little bracing you don’t have to have with your concrete form system. The one’s I’ve worked on in the past had to have bracing on top, middle, and bottom on the outside. And the metal pieces that go through the concrete that connect each side together were round rods ( kinda like all thread) with cones on each side. So when you take down your forms and hammer off the round metal it leaves a cone impression in the concrete. Very impressed with your system, and your work ethics too. It shows in the way you leave your concrete. To me concrete work was always gratifying because there was a somewhat quick results in the job. Granted it’s a physical labor job. But, very pleased with when we left to go to another job. Wish we had this system when we were pouring walls. Thanks again for another satisfying video sir. Can’t wait to see the next video.

Hi Jesse! Thank you for good videos! I`ve worked as a builder big part of my career here in Finland. It is always interesting to watch how people build in other countries. We do use similar technics to pour basement walls a lot here and we always use both horisontal and vertical rebars. One question came to my mind about how the concrete wall will dry if you are using tar and plastic outside and insulation inside? Here in Finland we put insulation also outside and inside wall is painted with paint that breaths like chalk. This way we can make sure that when wall is still drying or it gets wet during the years it can dry and it won`t cause any moisture problems like mold etc. Keep up building! It`s not the easiest job but very rewarding

Jesse, Your forms are old Burke forms from way back when. They used to be rivals of Symons way back when. Those holes in the rails of the forms, if I am not mistaken, can be used to bolt the forms together and fly them in a gang. So you could with those things build a bunch of them face down with some 1/2” bolts and swing a 10’ length of wall into place. The walker clamps are made to have two 2x4s on top of it. The hoop should be empty. It must be two 2x4s so you can have one garbage piece of lumber hooking out, canceled out by another length of garbage lumber hooking in. You will see a lot of guys running lumber through the hook because the bracket is stretched out from beating the piss out of it trying to get the last wall somewhat straight.
@jmuller86
@jmuller86 3 года назад
its good to hear that you recognize these forms. thats interesting about the half inch bolts. I will be building my house out of concrete using these forms. The newer snap ties for symons dont work too well for these forms, so I have to use the bigger wedges to keep them in line and the smaller newer wedges to go through the newer snapties. I am curious to learn more about them now. Thanks
