Your videos are excellent - always learn something e.g using a ratchet strap to clamp the boards together! Thanks for taking the time to film, edit and share with us.
What a great comment bud🤩Yeah, little jobs like this are quite straightforward, and can very complicated pretty efficiently👊Thanks for watching😎Cheers Del
Man you make it look so easy, like I told you before, I really enjoy watching a Pro at his work. Thanks for taking the time to entertain us, Please keep em coming
I like this gate very much! Not everything needs to be difficult, this is my kind of diy project. I did notice, you can leave through this gate, but you can't get in!
Hi Juliet🖐It's a nice simply built gate, that's for sure👍The gate latch was supplied by the customer, so I'm presuming that's what they wanted🤔As you mention though, I think it would become irritating very quickly, not being able to open it from the front😶Thanks for watching and your comment 😎 Cheers Del
Another great vid Del. My Dad has always had a side door to his house but it is a unique size. Built him one a few years ago. The local busy body neighbour came to find out what i was doing. She then proceeded to tell me that my sister was the favourite child, couldnt make it up.
Hi David🖐I'm glad watching me work doesn't wear you out bud, as it means you will have plenty of energy to watch even more😜Thanks for your comment🤩Cheers
Hi Arthur🖐I have another video with a but more detail, but I suspect you wont find it difficult making a gate lije this👍Cheers ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-fwhqY4AYk1k.html
Hi there🖐I actually looked forward to building this gate, (and one other), as its not particularly technical and you get visible results fast which customers love🤩Thanks for watching 😎 Cheers Del
Hi OSC🖐I did think about how the rails lined up with the ones on the fence🤔but the thought left my head as quickly as it entered it😆Thanks for watching 😎 Cheers
It gets like that at our age mate 👍🏻 It’s a ‘ask the customer’ thing anyways, and then you can’t get a straight answer out them! Do you want it like this or that?! Waste 20 minutes and get ‘I’ll just trust your judgment… you’re the expert!’ 🙄😂
Hi there🖐Oh yeah, sometimes you've got to let your eye be your guide🤓I didnt even check the screws, but I'm pretty sure the builder supplied what I asked for. (stainless steel usually come in a blue box from Screwfix👍) Thanks for watching and have a nice weekend😎Cheers Del
Great video. I am just about to make a panel to fit inside a metal gate frame and was wondering about wood expansion. Would it be best to but the boards together and leave a slight gap around the edges? Do you glue the boards together at all?
Hi there🖐My experience of this is that, if the wood has come straight from the timber yard, then it will DEFINITELY shrink and leave about a 5/6mm gap👍I don't use any glue on these gates, because as stated above, the wood moves too much for it to be effective👍Hope this helps🤞Cheers Del
Hi Del, great video although I suspect I will take 'a little bit' longer when I make one the same. The straps are a great idea and I'm wondering where you got them from as they look an ideal length. Looking forward to more vids join the future. Cheers, Martin
Hi Martin🖐Those straps were super cheap RAC ones, (hence the orange colour) from B&M👍I wouldn't strap something to my roof rack with them and drive over 100mph with them😵but for little clamping/strapping jobs, they are perfect👊Thanks for your comment 😎 Cheers Del
3 rails on a 4ft 6 fence to be closeboard, i now wish done a bit higher, whats the max you would have the top of fence board from the top rail, and i have to use 6ft boards n cut down, best cut in 1 at the end with.a jig saw?
Hi, i hung mine today, been watching your 2 gate vids, i used stright band and gudegon hinges, as had off a old gate, it hangs about 10mill off centre at the top for some reason,? Right side, same set up as your gate, cheers
Hi CH🖐Good job on your gate bud, and I can only think that your top hinge needs to be set further in on the mounting post as there must be some play/slack in the hinges🤔Cheers Del
The diagonal braces must always go at an upward angle from the edge, the hinges are fitted. The idea of this is to help prevent the gate from sagging on the latch side. I sure Del will answer you soon confirming this.
Definitely quick on video Del. 😂 Just curiously are you not worried about expansion and construction on the verticals pulling the gate apart over time? I found the hinges from Toolstation were more heavy duty than Screwfix 👍🏻
Hi Doug🖐I have a set of gates made the same as this on my own property which are now 16 years old and they are still rock solid👊(albeit a bit faded😬)Thanks for your comment and have a nice weekend😎Cheers
Hi CH🖐 I cut the Cross braces about 20mm shorter than the opening and kept the first board about flush and then cut the last board about 10mm back👍It worked out OK with 150mm wide boards, but if the opening was any smaller I would have taken some of both edges👊Thanks for your comment 😎 Cheers Del
Hi there🖐 One post was already concreted into the ground, and I just used a straight edge along the side of the brickwork to see how far back it is, and then fix the wall post accordingly👊Cheers Del
Hi Tom🖐I did get the hinges for the last set of gates I made, and they were MASSIVE👊and I did offer to get them for this set, but they had already been supplied😶Hope you are well, and thanks for watching 😎 Cheers
@@thetallcarpenter haha, I once had a couple supply me with a lock for the outside door, they forgot to mention that it was a bathroom lock... (they thought the other locks were overpriced). Here all well, busy finishing the last shed for the year since the rain season is coming, been a bit behind on your channel but saw a nice stair video which is an upcoming project for me as well. Hope you are well as well ;)
Youll never believe me B Dizzle, but those were the lengths the guys at my, excellent, local timber merchant brought out for me to load onto the van🤯I'm really lucky to have such a great timber supplier right on my door step that only stocks quality material👊Great comment and thanks for watching🤩Cheers Del
Hi FD🖐They are called Express Nails and you just drill an 8mm hole and hammer them in💪They give a great hold in solid masonry, but you'd never undo them🤔Cheers Del
Hi Heiko🖐You can only open the gate from the back, which, I assume, is as the customer wanted and for added security🤔Thanks for watching from Estonia🤩Cheers Del
Have to admit worked with alot of joiners in my time, quick ones slower ones rough as f**k ones ones that are too anal about stuff for no reason. Your the perfact balance not slow just gets on with it but does a cracking job
Hi there🖐That's a pretty cool and much appreciated comment bud🤗I've always tried to find the balance between pace and quality, and definitely like to think that I make a good job whilst getting a reasonable amount done👍Thanks for watching and your great comment 😎 Cheers Del
@@thetallcarpenter keep up the good work I know these videos sometimes may be a hassle to make ect but I've not seen any bad comments about any of your work. Just jealous if that's the case!
@@thebonkarsgamer449 I am VERY lucky to get, nearly all, positive comments on my videos, and I think that is a reflection on the type and caliber of my veiwers😉I think I've only deleted 3 comments in nearly 2 years, as they were completely unnecessary😬 Thanks again👍
I know Karl🤔I was told not to bring them onto a Kier job at least 15 years ago as they were scared I was going to use them to stand🤯Have a good weekend bud😎Cheers
Can even tell from the colour of the box that you used stainless screws. My builder is the kind of guy who says 'don't need to use those, I've done this for years and had no problems' yeh maybe because no one wanted to call the same guy back who cocked it up in the first place.
Hi there🖐I always try and do the best job I can first time round so future issues can be kept to a minimum👍Thanks for your comment and for watching😎Cheers Del
