Thank you for sharing! Turtles are omnivores, you can feed them fruits, veggies and canned dog food. Just please cut those fruits and veggies into bite size. They love tunnels and mud. If well taken cared of, they'd live for 50 to 100 yrs! Thank you, Sir Daniel, for being such a great father to your children. Stay safe everyone!!!

We had a box turtle that traveled the world with us. Dad stopped on the side of a highway in Texas and ran out in the middle of the road and rescued Burr Tortoise. When we flew overseas to live, Mom carried our box turtle in her sewing box (pre TSA). Wherever we were stationed our turtle primarily lived in the bathroom with walks outside - he was fed and watered in the tub. We came back to the US on ships. Our stewart layed a fresh bath mat on Burr Tortoise everyday🥰.

Houston, back in 2017 I found a baby box turtle crossing the road and I didn’t want it to get run over, so I rescued her. She was the size of a silver dollar. I named her Myrtle. I had her for over a year and unfortunately she died on me but I enjoyed her while caring for her. The worms I fed her were longer than she was.lol I fed her watermelon, strawberries, blueberries, tomatoes, lettuce....etc.

You should plant a hibiscus plant so that you can give them flowers and leaves as a treat, also you could plant a smooth cactus to feed them as well, you should get a pathing stone to feed them on so they can wear their beaks while they eat so they don't get over grown

My aunt has had box turtles over 20 years. They will dig to try to escape, you need to make sure the fencing goes down into the dirt a foot or so. And she also feeds them wet cat or dog food for protein. Good luck guys! they are so cute!

Daniel and Houston, I just had to tell you guys that you're right about turtles liking watermelons but I've grown a patch of cantaloupe before and I couldn't havest them fast enough. When you can, then go by a fruit stand and buy a few cantaloupe and put them in with your 🐢🐢 and add put a Gopro on time-lapse on them eating from the outside to the inside and leaving the rest of the outside. They love them. Just wanted to mention that to you. 🐢🐢💯👍🤣

These turtles are a joy. They are carnivores Vienna sausages , canned dog food works. They all have salmonella on their shells , wash your hands. A good compost heap is a favorite for hybernanating through winter and cooling in summer.

Yeah....friends had a desert tort climb out of a 3 foot tall enclosure like that...lol..they use those corners and they can climb like you would never imagine...lol

My friend had 12 bix turtles that he used a wire pen for them. He just staked it and burried the wire about 5 inches. He had a shallow cement pond for then to walk in. And even gave them a place to hibernate for the winter. Hi dug a hole about 2 ft deep with one side with a slope for them to walk down into. Liked the bottom with grass and leaves and covered the one side with a board so they wouldn't fall in and left the sloped side open so they could walk in and out. In the winter when they would go in and sleep he covered the entrance with another board but leave a little space for air. Have fun! These are great pets! Charlie, Jack, Harry and Dolly!

exactly, that's what we did for ours and lucky we did too... trapped two raccoons that destroyed our bird feeders just weeks apart this past spring--going to put up an electric fence before the end of the year.

Do you have racoons? Well, my 2 turtles few years back, were taken out of a 5 gallon bucket half full from back porch. Forgot to bring 'em in that night. Maybe a detachable chicken wire hoop house for fish and turtles at nights so Houston will not be disappointed. Love you all, take care.

I love box turtles my kids had one growing up. My son put it in his wagon connected to his bike and decided to drive it down the hill it was a metal wagon and so it bounced out and he lost it forever my son was about your sons age thank you for the memory of bringing that back

@@georgedavidson7986 Exactly! Not to mention that they don’t know if these turtles are males or females. They are stressing them out by forcing them to live together. They just really need to be in their natural environment. Teach Houston how they eat, breed and hibernate naturally.

That is a cool turtle enclosure, love seeing you and Houston doing projects together and I love that you are teaching him how to use power tools... that time spent together is such a treasure ❤ That said, I had and idea of how to help it be more secure, you could build a screen door to go over the top of it out of 1/4 inch welded wire with a latch to keep racoons and fox out of it... also, box turtles can dig, I hope they don't dig out and escape 😊

Good to show Houston how to drill. He did well putting those boards together. Once again, it was great watching Houston get so excited about taking care of his box turtles.. It was fun watching the turtles through the time lapse video. Houston sure knew what the turtles would want to eat. Thanks for sharing this project.

Not too long ago I read a post on Facebook about turtles. I was surprised to know they feel pain when you pick them up by the outer shell. If you look up a picture of their skeleton it makes sense. I know you'll take good care of your new friends!

When I was a kid box turtles were every where. Today they are endangered in my opinion. Please let them go, they should be free.

If you listened carefully to what Houston said. They were used for turtle races. You can't let a animal back into the wild if they didn't come from there

@@nicolenelourens565 if they were born in the wild, which they were, they should be released. Just because kids found them to race doesn't mean they are bred in captivity. In Maine they are protected as endangered. Four other states have them listed as threatened. Most states still have a problem with pet shops gathering them from the wild. Federally, they are not listed as endangered because it would threaten development and pretty much all new construction areas.

I loved this video reminded me of when we lived in Maryland and used to have box turtles as pets we sometimes kept them in the sunken window boxes for the basement windows... fed them lettuce, fruit and sometimes raw hamburger LOL keep up the videos...thx from Belleville, Michigan

I love turtles! I had a box turtle named, Tobie the Turtle, for 8 years, not nearly as long as they can live! You could put a board, side to end, on one corner and Houston would have a place to sit and watch, play with his turtles! Maybe two seats so one of his friends could enjoy also! A seat like we use to do on wooden sand boxes!

I used to feed june bugs and crickets to my box turtles. If you run a brooder light out there temporarily you should get some June bugs and light bugs at night directly into the pen.

Cool Guys! I was thinking that if they climb on each other they can escape. I like the names after TMNT. Maybe chicken wire on top wth a swing open top with a latch, so you can change their water and feed them.

What a lovely video little Mr Mini you is learning alot from you and will grow up to be a man of all trades. Loved the time laps of the turtles eating would have loved to see the fish tank to see if the water cleared up and how the plants were doing. Houston is so blessed to spend time with his dad! Sink the chicken wire acoupleinches. Turtles can be notorious diggers! One of my BEST memories is of my dad & I building a pen for the injured box turtle hed rescued. I named him/her "Wyatt Turt". (Brave courageous and bold. You old timers will remember that!) Setting him free out in the Everglades 6 months later was a great learning experience for 11 year old me. As much as I loved him, I couldnt deny him being with his own kind. Had I more then one, Id of kept em.

🐢 TANK perhaps a neat name for the guy with the split shell....🐢he looks to be The biggest . That is one tough turtle ! He has some battle scars but is a survivor ( maybe cause he is built like a TANK?) haha 😃 What a healthy appetite on that guy! He REALLY munched on tomatoes! They are each a tad different in design. Learning their personalities will be interesting! That is a nice set up you two built. You put together a little 'fort' for them to explore and nap in. Congratulations , Houston, on the pond and your new 'Fort Turtle'! God Bless you all!!!

We had a sulcata tortoise he was 80lbs and would follow us around the yard. I had raised vegetable garden beds to keep him out. He knew when I worked in the garden he would get the bad vegetables and would sit and watch me waiting for his treats. Dark leafy greens are really good for them anything except spinach. Spinach inhibits calcium tortoise needs for healthy shell growth. Tortoises make very good pets enjoy interacting with them.

Love this vid!!! Houston has really been excited about these projects.Making memories that will be with him forever and will probably pass on to his kudos. He is So growing up quickly and seems willing to take part in the projects. It is so refreshing to see parents teaching them to mind their manners, helping with the chores, loving and caring for animals, a Christian environment……and not in front of a tv, Xbox and computer! You and your wife are doing a great job!!! So glad I found your channel several years ago and all the other channels you have recommended. Blessings
