I was recently invited to travel to California to attend a Brightline media event at the Siemens Mobility Rolling Stock Factory in Sacramento, Ca to see how Brightline's trains are made and see their newest train, the second BrightRed. This video will focus on the factory tour with the new train being its own video. Part two which tours Brightline's newest train, BrightRed 2, can be found here: • Inside BrightRed: A To...

1:07 After brief presentations from Siemens North American Rolling Stock President Michael Cahill and Brightline CEO Michael Reininger, we began the tour in the final assembly area. Here one of Brightline's new locomotives was having the finishing touches down and I provide a walk through the locomotive.
5:03 Next is the building where the locomotive frames and shell are built. We see the full process of building a locomotive, from building the fuel tank to adding the sides, to a fully assembled cab ready to be attached to the frame.
10:44 The third stop is where the shells for the passenger cars are built. Here car sides are welded together by robots, the ends are assembled and attached, and the roofs are built.
19:42 The final stop is in the passenger coach final assembly area. The cars come in here once they are closed in and water leak tested and the interior is built out. Here we also walk through a future Brightline coach before seats are added.
26:10 We end with a quick test of Brightline's sixth and newest train, the second BrightRed. A full video devoted to it will be coming shortly.
Thank you to Brightline for bringing me out to California to document this process.
This was filmed on September 28, 2021.

Great to see such a resurgence in passenger railroad investment in the USA. And nice to see a European company that provides quality and integrity behind its products. The Brightline trains look great, so do Amtrak Chargers!

Siemens made the right call, anticipating a new boom of passenger rail in the US: Now they are essentially the only local maker which can deliver all kind of rolling stock, except for freight locomotives. It is not just a small shop for a limited order, like CAF had in New York. I wonder if Stadler will stay in California permanently too, once they have completed the train sets for Caltrain
@hotrail8295
@hotrail8295 2 года назад
Stadler's plant for the Caltrain equipment is located outside of Salt Lake City, Utah. With Siemens in town, it;s good to see locomotive and rolling stock manufacturing in California for once.

I hope Stadler stays, bringing more of their comprehensive portfolio from Europe, including light rail vehicles. They will produce new metro trains for MARTA, so looks like they're not leaving yet.

Great video! As someone who lives close by Sacramento, it's awesome to see how that Siemen's facility has grown over the decades into one of the largest Siemen's facilities in North America I believe, to what it is now, delivering high quality trains across the country. So awesome!

I used to do security for siemen. I got access to every building from the welding building, office area, design office and many more. Though access was very limited only you could access with a badge where you work at. I got to see the first electric Amtrak engine rollout before I left the place. The place has now expanded and added a couple buildings on the north side. Thanks for the video, reminded me of my time when I worked there.

I've been keeping track of trains in the US from europe and the development on california high speed rail is depressing so watching your videos on brightline gives me hope that the US can become a train loving country again.

Thanks so much for this video! What a contrast from the "self-guided" tour I took of the CSS&SB Michigan City shops back in the 1960's where they did heavy work on cars and locos. Also, that welder protective equipment looked like something out of an 80's horror movie. Cheers from Wisconsin!

That had to be the experience of a lifetime getting to tour there. Brightline made the right call with the streamlined noses, the standard nose design Amtrak, Via and all the commuter railroads are ordering is pretty ugly in my opinion.
@c449watomic
@c449watomic 2 года назад
Amtrak and Via need that nose design because they need to have an exposed front coupler. They run some trains with more then one unit together and equipment is shuffled around a lot.
@wavesnbikes

@@c449watomic VIA Rail's design for an SC44 was well played. The Amtrak ALC 42 is so so... The Amtrak and commuter SC44 Versions of the nose are ugly asf.

The VIA units also have an attractive streamlined nose, but with a standard coupler. I agree that the Amtrak / Commuter version looks like it has been punched in the face

Do you know when the Siemens venture coaches will go in service for Amtrak Midwest more specifically Amtrak wolverine. I heard it was supposed to be in 2021. But my gut feeling that they where delayed into 2022. I know they had some deliveries earlier this year. And did some tests in January of 2021.

You should have no issues navigating these trains with your chair, they were designed from the beginning with wheelchair accessibility in mind. I'll be sure to point that out in my next video on the train itself.

@@lovedfriend2020 Brightline's trains are ADA compliant. The bathrooms are huge and the aisles are wide enough for wheelchairs to come through. The trains have floors that extend out to the station platforms to provide a smooth transition for wheelchairs (they have elevators that take you to the station platform). You have nothing to worry about with Brightline concerning wheelchairs.

Huh. For some reason my previous comment isn't showing up. Anyway, I don't think that coach you passed on the left near the end was actually for Brightline. Brightline doesn't have low-platform doors.

You're right, that's a Via Rail coach. Just saw the drawbar and high level door on the other end when editing so I assumed Brightline since there are no markings currently to differentiate them.
