The colour of the burglar proofs should normally match the colour of the window frames.

That's not true. Brown window frames Matches with white burglary Black windows as well. There are several decors our there that supports my claims

Beautiful progress and thanks for tip…. I say paint the burglar proof white…the whitest white u can find .. this way it will almost fade away … I believe if u paint it the interior wall color, yes it will look uniform but then again it will seem like a continuous wall

I also suggest roof gutters, this will prevent water pouring direct to the foundation. Why not add concrete slab around the house , let say 1m from the building wall then add some tiles this again will prevent water getting to the foundation ground. Basically try diverting water away from the perimeters of the building.

It's obvious that this man is not a builder but good for encouraging people to damproof their properties. The damp proof system is called damproofing.The material we use is called membrane. Where we lay the membrane horizontally on the brick or block to stop capillary action to form a layer is called a damproof course. There's a guidance where to layer it to be effective. Also always check on the tin of paint for guidelines per square metre of paint per tin and add about 10% more.

Kinsley, would it be a good idea to complete the dusty external grounds work before commencing external painting? You don't want the freshly painted exterior getting dusty almost immediately. Thank you for another great video.

What you are describing is called "tanking." That's when you fix waterproof membranes vertically against the internal wall as you have shown. Both damp proof courses and damp proof membranes are laid horizontally. No need for "damp proof paints" as long as you have your DPM & DPC in place.

@@jamesbruce9776 You are very daft. The DPM should have been done as well as a DPC. The client has been cheated. Damp proof painting is USELESS and will fail eventually. It will not perform as well. Paints will expand and crack unlike physical membranes. Then again you can remain blissfully ignorant. OLODO.

it's very surprising how a builder can build such a property and yet miss out 1 of the most vital and important parts. The DPC and DPM is vital to any build. I would be super pissed if my so called builder missed that . that's inexcusable really. 1 love wish u guys the best

Way to go. Either extra materials go waste or some of the artisans will steal them. In fact from my experience some overestimate, with intention to steal the extra materials.

Hahaha am surprised you've not caught on with estimates for artisans. The over estimating is so that if you are not around they will sell off the extra. Am talking from personal experience. Another point is the filling around the building that you've done .it shouldn't have gone above the foundations level. In the uk you can fill the outside above the damp course. In future you may still experience rising damp internally even with the damp proof painting external. What I did for my house was to dip around the whole building below the foundation level and fill the trench with chippings so that water drains away below ground level.well done

I see that the damp proof paint comes in 3 separate containers, did you have to mix the contents of the 3 containers together prior to painting? Or does each container have to be applied separately?

Hello, To my opinion, i think tiling is better than this Damp proofing. With a nice quality tiles, you will never have any problem for many years to come.

Tiling is actually a bad idea and a temporal solution. A mistake I've been seeing recently. The science of damp proofing doesn't support this whole tiling thing. None of them will last... they'll start falling apart after the wall is already damaged.

With the way things are done is Ghana, when they are done with the structure and roofing, you may want want to take over and do the rest else artisans will ruin things for you

If you're doing it yourself, make sure to consult multiple people who're also building before making certain decisions. The videos here have been very helpful to me. But also talk to people building now. If you're supervising building yourself, make sure you get good artisans else things will go bad...and also monitor every single work and be strict (respectfully). Also communication, communication, communication with artisans about exactly what you want.

thanks for sharing. practical info. I have always expected some estimates to have no basis, pull out of the thin air! I would assume with paint wall surface area and thickness of the paint film, these Ghanaian craftsman should be able to estimate volume of paint needed with all that experience. it is highly frustrating. you can’t do all by yourself. you expect people to do their part- so wrong!

May I ask you this foolish question why did you not say that this was to be done first on the first three courses coming up from the foundation I mean the DPM this should have been done first above any thing else this is why I want to be in Ghana when you are putting up a home
