Nice video! You made it look easy. I never realized you could do the stair treads like that with blocks on the side stringers instead of notching them. I plan to build a landing outside two of my back doors just to make it a bit safer to step out & to have a loading/unloading area. I'll be able to back my truck up to the landing so things will be easier. I'm thinking of installing a ramp as well.
Love this! I found out the hard way, though, that we should have put a railing on the landing. I stepped on a kids shoe and fell backward off the open side of our landing. Luckily I landed on the hood of the van....could have been much worse. Hubby is installing a railing as we speak! :)
Hi Mark, Really good video. I did have a question regarding it. Early on you calculated a 7 ⅜ rise for each step, but when you did the measurements you indicated 7 ⅞. I'm just wondering if I missed something or if it was a slip of the tongue. Thanks, Brent
Hi Amiable, You caught me on that lol. The garage floor was sloped which required me to increase my rise on my lower steps. I appreciate your attention to detail. Cheers!
You didn’t go into much detail on how to figure out riser hights. Do you always make your risers your maximum 7 7/8”? Some inexperienced viewers might assume this. Nice video tho man, the only thing that I would do differently is screws and glue. Cheers!
Great job. Do you have a good DIY link to building stair and railing for outside back yard. Not putting in a deck, just need steps and railing for back yard access. I have something in place now but needs to be replaced or repaired and another stringer needs to be add for support. Thank you
