I been about this Del Sol since day 1 as in since you got it lol. Then you sold it a broke my heart, then sat around watching it get detroyed and becoming an actual ruined sol. I'm so glad it's back lol - it doesn't need a K series it just needs to be great and can drive. Let's no pretend like taking the targa off and just driving the speed limit this car gives you a smile.

Love the fact that there is another person out there restoring there del sol I put mine in the shop at the begging of the year and have been working on it little at a time and let me tell you it’s definitely been a project but will be worth it in the end

Miss my del sol. It served the same purpose. Fuel economy, was getting 10-12 mpg in my truck and had no need for it every single day. I saved so much and had so much more fun driving. 🤘 excited for the build!

If you want an OEM + build to drive daily use the stock engine and make a vitara build its very cheap and reliable, consist in forged rods and vitara pistons, pistons alone are $100…very cheap and then turbo it, you gonna get 200hp easily and that kind of power in a Del Sol is fun, more than enough, reliable, and be fuel efficient .

Hey a helpful tip to help with the upper body vibrating from using the DA sander is to use mechanix heavy impact gloves. They’re meant to help absorb vibrations from air tools. Also I have to give you a massive kudos for how well you’ve been doing on the body work for how little experience! Seriously doing a lot better work that a couple of people I know of and have seen

Should probably use prepsol rather than thinners to wipe panel down and check for dents in reflections. Looking good though man, I painted my prelude recently and it took me a year in my spare time, so I definitely respect how hard you're going

The 96-97 front bumper is called the dolphin nose. Typically hard to find.

Regarding the MPG, that really makes me miss my 88 Civic haha 200k miles and still chugging about 400 miles before filling up good times

You can have lots of fun with a single cam still. I did in my eg hatch and El coupe & sedan. I have love for the d-series still. Hope she comes out clean

Love this build. Makes me very nostalgic. Totally get the fuel economy aspect. I love a fun car but never loved the paying for fuel part. So I end up driving small Hondas. 🤷🏻‍♂️

You may want to invest in a pneumatic long board sander for doing body work. Helps with flatness on straight panels and over gaps. Enjoy the project.

My man! I prefer the pre-facelift with the aux lights too. I've never been all that into the 'dolphin nose'.

More like 30MPG as I seem to recall. It's been quite a while since mine has been on the road tho. Swapped the head gasket, got about 100 miles and zero comp in three cylinders again. It's sat for the last 6 years and they have been very not kind. I think the rear quarters on 'ruined sol' are probably in better condition. I could just about put a fist thru mine and it's brutal because I've owned the car for more than 20 years now.

Man if you were in San Diego I'd give you my spare bumper and I have a friend with a hood too. I hope you find the parts to keep this old sol alive.

Compromise with a nonvtec B20 outta crv. Plenty of grunt in a little car, and cheap ! Also, I don't know if you've picked the color, but electron blue from SI is always a nostalgic, and dark violet perl from DC Integra is sick

I know you’ve got really good body guys to learn from but something to maybe help when blocking, use a little bit bigger of a block that’s somewhat flexible, I know it works very well for me haha, looking good man! It’s nice seeing body work on RU-vid for once😅

You should tape the edge/corner of you windows so that the DA won't scuff up your glass in case of a misshap or your hand misses

Nice video as always, but i´m curious, let me explain, if the reason is the fuel consuption, why dont you put diesel motor in it? As in Europe, lots of cars are i4 diesels, hatchbacks and little cars. I have a 1.9tdi engine and almost 5L per 100km, (1.5 gallons per 60miles?) Greetings from Spain

hopefully you used epoxy primer on the exposed metal. i learned this the hard way, my whole roof on an ek rebuild was rusted and just sprayed self itching primer and days later you could see rust forming again. stripped all down again and coated it with epoxy primer and its all good. so i just decided to prime the whole car with epoxy (metal parts only) and just using regular primer on the front and rear bumper. this stuff takes a while even with 0 knowledge of body work just like me but at least you know youre giving it all your attention unlike any other shop would do just to get it out the door faster these days

I think the section near the rear bumper on the driver side is a bit crooked (the section where's bondo on it) it looks different from the passenger side. From the look of the bumper meets the quarter panel

honestly i know its dumb but if you did any swap look into the L-series swap. modern day d series but with a little more pep. That be something new and diffrent if you ever wanted to go down that road.

Look if you really wanted to go all out fix the original shell on the side as a completely you project, doesn’t matter how long it takes because you started working on cars with that one so why not take it further than you ever have if you think it’s in you, you’re obviously capable with how quick you’ve picked up bodywork.
