I’m your follower from Indonesia. I think in this current “remote era”, you should try to live in Bali, you can live very comfortably below $2000, with good foods and beautiful beaches. The only challenge is about the time gap, since Bali is 15 hours ahead of SF, and probably affects your workflow.

We don’t have any idea of what we are doing, but hope this shows you can do anything lol. We aren’t physically building the house- professionals are, but we are contracting it out

You keep emphasizing on saving money and doing DIY projects but in the foreseeable future you will not become a builder and this experience /expertise you gain will not be leveraged else where. Its fun to build a house but on the flip side its equally backbreaking and donkeys job. This can be outsourced to a professional builder and the time you save can be utilized to do some more fruitful work. what do you reckon.

We will net between $300K-$500K on this project when we sell in two years. There are a lot worse ways to spend 6 months of your life! We plan on always building our own homes and will utilize real estate as a wealth tool. As a bonus, we actually throughly enjoy the challenge and diversification from our day jobs. There is no joy and sustainability working at a computer for 16 hours a day. We build hundreds of thousands in equity during everyone else’s Netflix time 👊🏼
