Building ROOF Structure for Log Cabin | My Grandfather helps me

Sometimes we hear a call from nature. When I was 18 years old I ventured out alone with only a backpack full of simple hand tools to actualize my dream. Build my own traditional off grid log cabin by hand from the materials of the Swedish wilderness. Just like our Forefathers did.
I had no previous experience in building, gathering materials or filming. So I started studying myself the old arts and learning from my grandfather and mentor Åke Nilsson. I began to cut down trees and film with my phone, learning as I go. My project started full time once I graduated high school in summer 2019. I filmed everything myself and edited this video so you can follow my journey and hopefully learn as I do.

To those saying he "cheated" with the tractor. You must realize back when these were being built, there was a group working together. Meaning extra hands to help get the roofing parts up. The fact that the tractor has been used only a couple times out of all that has been done is still remarkable. Watching you work these pieces together and seeing what it is becoming is amazing and relaxing. No music... just the sounds of nature and you building. That walk though the forest was beautiful!! Thank you for sharing this adventure! Can't wait to see your next post!!

I wasn't thinking he was cheating, back in the days when England was first invaded they built houses in groups, everyone sleeps in whatever houses were finished and they build more... they would put todays construction industry to shame, they still farmed more better and they fought better too... kinda miss watching those series it's the closest thing to Historians delving into stand up comedy

We also have to consider that he COULD have done it by hand but he would have wasted a lot of resources for another wooden ramp. Also, he still uses only hand tools so it's not about lazyness or time.

This is a good book. Does provide a step by step introduction to how to build things ru-vid.comUgkxhgbP-6hUnXu_QRaoHgLztgsI0YF3HqR0 , also does offer some steps. Includes pictures to give you ideas for layouts and such. If you are looking for a guide, this is not exactly what you want. But if you are trying to familiarize yourself with the way that pole barn building and other out buildings, are made, then this will work just as you need it to. A few things in this book are a barn (of course), detached garage, storage building, and coops.

Like most of us here, I've been online, and on RU-vid for years, watched countless numbers of videos, probably multiple thousands of hours worth. I don't know what algorithm got me here but I'm glad it did. The series/progression of the cabin build is nothing short of absolutely amazing! Might be some of my favorite content I've ever come across here on RU-vid. I'm glad people like Erik exist. The amount of dedication, drive, focus, and amount of physical exertion that has gone in to this shows to me, that Erik has the ability to absolutely master whatever skill, trade, or occupation he wants to achieve in this life. Its incredibly motivating. I'll be doing what I can to show my support and buying a few things from the shop. Keep it up kid, you're gunna continue to do big things.

Kids at that age aren't normally this motivated to do something like this not because they are lazy, but because the support and foundation to want to do so aren't there. Erik must have an amazingly loving stable family life, that in a real way, built this up in his life as he grew up to honor his grandfather and family that many kids here in America have never even factored into their priorities because oftentimes, we are anxious to start our lives away from our parents as soon as possible, seeking that love and support elsewhere through friends and relationships.

Some might find it boring to watch each log being prepared, but there's a special wholesomeness and satisfying feeling about it I really enjoy. I also like the occasional breaks to explore the land around the place. Really gives us more of a feel for the area than just the worksite. THANK YOU for not using power tools. @@EpicBoy94 I sometimes forget people like you exist. People that have literally experienced life, seen the struggles of it, seen how it can consume you, and then blame people that have it rough for not working hard enough. This kid is living a privileged life, building under a mentor in a land he owns, most likely being fed by people that care for him and have safeguarded his life since birth. I am by no means taking away his massive accomplishment, but to use this kid's life as fuel for the argument that fat people are lazy and should just get up out of their asses and build a cabin, is beyond disrespectful and apathic to the human struggle. I live around a lot of fat people, people that self loath constantly, and that either lack the mental or physical fortitude to leave their 8-10 hour desk job that pays the bills and go work out, because they need to deal with the struggles of personal life, bad finances, and all the shit that gets in the way of living your best life. It's beyond disrespectful to blame people's weight on laziness. Most, if not all, were born into a less caring household, were fed bad food, were given bad habits or allowed to indulge, and are living under precarious situations that demand focus out of personal health. AND ALL THE TIME NAGGING AND COMPLAINING ABOUT A WEAK SIGNAL OR WHATEVER. GOOD LUCK W THAT ATTITUDE.

Imagine taking your friends or family to a log cabin that you made with your own bare hands. No power tools, just a saw, axes, mallets, ropes. Not even using iron nails. I sure as hell know that if I was invited to a cabin like this, I would spend half an hour just to feel how surreal the manmade cabin would be.

The struggles, the hard work, the pondering of how to accomplish each part of each log; all are tied into a greater plan for the cabin as a whole. This journey of dream, to reality is a model of your journey from a boy to man. You only hint at the hardships in the video, likely that is because you focus on the future. A great example for us all ! Thank you Sir !

I've been mesmerized while watching your skills at work as a young man who has shown discipline while working hard during this construction. I wish more young people around the world (especially here in the U.S.A.) would apply the same work ethics as you do. There are so many things I could point out that captured my attention after watching your professional videography but in order to keep my comment brief I'll just name a few. First, I appreciated the silence (no unnecessary commentary) during the video with the exception of the natural sounds of your surroundings i.e. birds, rain, wind, etc. and of course the sounds of your saw, hammer, etc. Secondly, your workmanship with simple tools was impeccable! And, third but perhaps most notably, not once did I see a cell phone attached to your person at any given time! Excellent job Erik!
