Hello and welcome to The Retro Room!
I have decided that my Hot Wheels Batman 1989 Batmobile needs somewhere proper to live. There is only one place, THE BATCAVE!
Yes I have decided to build a 1:18 scale diorama Batcave, from scratch to display the Hot Wheels 1:18 scale Batmobile.
In Part 14, it is time to wrap up this 13 week long series by first finishing off some more detailing on the rocks, making the turntable, pipes and power switch. The Bat cage did not come out as well as I thought so I will come back to that another time. Last, I finished the build off with a coat of clear gloss coat to give the rocks a more wet look. But of course, there is always something that goes wrong.
Lots to do so let the fun commence!

Wow looks amazing. From certain angles looks realistic. Bring the batmobile to life by putting led lights to light it up. Batcave with Batman standing there 🎉😎🎉. Well done

Thanks! I think I got the angle right. Originally I did have the Batmobile pull up to the turn table as well, but it didn’t look quite right so left it out.

@@MattandTheRetroRoom , further plans? Wow, I bet you are going to add more details to make the whole batcave; BTW, this is what a playset should look like, altough we have some huge ones like Snake Mountain from Mattel, or even the 1995 Batman Forever batcave from Kenner!

Thank you! I really do appreciate the support. It’s been a tough 13 weeks trying to keep the build going throughout. But one lesson I did learn that I will be taking with me in future builds, release the video(s) once the build is finished 🤣 I will be going through my builds for 2024 during ‘The End of The Year Show’ which should be out sometime between Christmas and New Years! Yeah I think it was the last few videos that really brought this together. I will still be working on it as there are things that bother me and I want to fix them. But I will do a little update video on that at some point. I have many more projects lined up. Just deciding which to do first. Well done for doing this, for sticking with it, and for bringing us along for the ride. I have truthfully had my eyes Opened for what’s actually possible. The most important thing about this video series, was showing how accessible this sort of thing is! I would love to try a Jurassic park main road attack diorama

Thank you! The main reason for this video was to demonstrate that you can use materials that are easily available and don’t cost an awful lot, using tools you may already have and can still make a decent diorama. Have a got at making it! All you need is a little imagination and perhaps a cordless hot glue gun for ease.

Looks great and really liked the step by step and all the choices along the way. I dont build models but I do like Batman 89 and the step by step videos felt like I was building it too, although I wouldnt know where to start myself. With the lighting and the angles, it looks just like the film but knowing what went into making it makes it even better. Im sure you would like to take a break after such a big build but I am looking forward to whatever is next!

All I’ll say is that there will be additions to the 89 cave, but not to the same scale.

Some PVC pipe would probably match the scale better. But “final” product looks pretty good. I’d also look at options for a simple functional turntable. I think that would draw the eye 😊

I was thinking, the tube that the ALU pipe came in was about the right size 🤣 My original plan was to include a working turntable. But I decided against it in the end for a couple of reasons, one of them being we don’t actually see it working. I’m probably going to spend another 13 weeks tweaking this 🤣 but the videos have to have an end at some point. So It is the final in the sense that, it is finished to the point that I can use it for displaying the Batmobile. But I’m sure you got that lol. Thank you for watching 👍

Excellent stuff, man! Really good craftsmanship on the rocks and pipes. Try using different adhesives next time, to achieve different results, like gorilla brand super-glue or contact cement! However I noticed that the metal turning table was slightly asymmetrical, which I just can't seem to look past, for some reason. It's a small nitpick but just be sure to line things up properly before you trace onto your final piece!

That’s cool, man! All feedback, hints and tips always welcome here! I did touch on it in the video, but I’m not happy with certain elements of the build. The ladder, power switch, the pipes and indeed the turntable will all be revisited and made right. I kinda shot myself in the foot when I decided that the best way to record the progress of the build, was to have a running series. Normally, I am very methodical when it comes to building things like this, and I wish I had got myself ahead first then started releasing videos lol. It shouldn’t have taken 3 months to build this, and time was tight to meet the schedule I had set for myself and the great people who choose to follow my progress of the build. Which I’m very grateful to the people who stuck in there. I’ve learnt a lot from this experience and I’m definitely taking everything people have said away with me. You’ll definitely see an improvement of build quality and video quality moving forward. Thank you for watching and the invaluable feedback you’ve given 😀

Were you spray painting indoors without a mask? Sanding the clay too, is a health hazard but we gotta pick our battles in this life.

I always promote good working practices during my builds and if I’m not using something to protect my health and wellbeing, then I usually point it out in the video and call myself an idiot. Where spray painting/lacer is being used, I always use a mask and make sure the area is well ventilated. I probably should use a mask when sanding down the paper clay products, and that’s my own fault. But as I say, I will always promote safe practices 👍
