Came to watch the bungalow, was about to switch over when you took out the fiddle. Man, that is incredible, sounded like you had uilleann pipes accompanying you on the early part. Beautiful. Moving. Very very cool.

I ended up here because I started at part 1 of your shed build all the way through and the least I expected was a moving rendition of Amazing Grace. Now you're a Renaissance man! Your skills will be very much needed in the post industrial, post peak oil, post Western Civ collapse hellscape we're marching on to. Matter of fact writer J.H.Kunstler imagined that world for us in his novel series "A World Built By Hand". I din't rea it but I know the outlines by his own commentary and one of the aspects is people gathering around the fire and producing their own music and entertainment. No youtube or app to cover that. You're well prepped for that, 5 years on you might as well be all settled in your that neck of the woods. Have a blessed Christmas.

Great video, Jon. Thanks for sharing tip about Lowes. Had a similiar experience recently, bought a garage thermometer on ebay, shipped from Lowes with packing slip. Interesting. I have two concerns about your project. One, will the cinder blocks be an adequate foundation in the Tennessee mud? And two, with 14/2 wiring you are limited to 15 amp breakers. 12/2 wiring is only slightly more expensive and is good for 20 amps. Also wondering - - do you have a website? I have watched (I think) all of your videos. In your comments on one, you mentioned how you sharpen your gouges. Don't recall which video, but I would like to review it and do mine the same way. Thanks again for sharing! Best regards,Fred

Great questions! The building is....was...super lightweight, and 9 footings should be sufficient...that said, as this has morphed from a storage shed into something more substantial, I am thinking about more substantial footings. I don't really have a website...well...I did, but it is for my airplane project, which I have put on hold for now. You can always email me anytime at riding on two wheels at gmail dot com. I will share a link showing the way I sharpen my tools. Yes....14-2 only carries 15 amps.... It is half the $ as 12-2, and I ran it for lights and some lightweight circuits. The kitchen area is all 12-2 --- Thanks for looking out for me!

Great work! I was wondering how the loft is supported. What's holding it up? I mean, some of it is the inner wall framing on the forest floor, but there doesn't seem to be enough. It's as if it's just floating. I can't really tell if it's just supported by tacking a strip to each curved arch. Surely that's not all is it? I would think it would crash under a load. How'd you do it?
@grandpasmountain
@grandpasmountain 4 года назад
The loft is primarily supported by the center wall, and cantilevers off that. Yes, it is anchored to the side and rear walls. I can assure you, it is better supported than most floors in a full suzed home! The loft is just under 12' wide, so each half spans only 6'. Thankyou for the compliment!

I think you're wrong about the Lowe's price. They can't be changing prices all over the store to keep up with "lowest price". So, even without you asking, they shipped you wire at the lowest price just like they guaranteed you. Now that is pretty neat if you ask me. Had you gotten a Lowe's associate out there on the floor to check the wire price I bet you'd find they quote you a better price than what you saw on the shelf. You don't have to go hit up the manager or anything... ANY sales person on the floor can check for you and if they find a lower price they might have to page a floor manager to come over and put their blessing on it but believe me, I do it all the time and with a Home Depot right next to my Lowe's and an Ace Hardware a mile away plus a Walmart super store on the other side of Home Depot, I get some pretty awesome discounts from what you see on those bin labels. Sales people carry a smart phone and check for you instantly.
@grandpasmountain
@grandpasmountain 5 лет назад
I published a video immediately after called "my apologies to Lowes" Lowes sells stuff on eBay under a different name, shipped from their warehouse NEXT DAY FedEx for way less than anything on the shelf. They do not price match eBay. You are right -- if you find an online retailer, they will match it.

@@justinscott9151 Yes, adding windows would not be hard. I did not invent the gothic arch -- this design was created in the 70's by engineers sponsored by the U.S. I have seen a couple large houses constructed this way in western NH. Yes, the Texas folks get top dollar for their metal shell. For $24,000 a company will come out and build you a complete metal clad pole building in a week, and insulate it. I have made all my fiddles. Glad to hear you're trying the violin! I played guitar for years then learned piano (so I didn't have to sing along!). I never even saw a fiddle up close till 3 years ago.....and I got hooked on the history, the music, everything. Love it. Then I fell in love with building them, and fell into using alternative woods.
