Since you added the post depot maybe an actual post office would help with the land values in the port area? One in the new high residential area too. I think there are low noise train stations in the work shop, other wise it's an annoyance. I hope in CS II they add some sort of noise resistant setting to buildings, add a policy or something.
Trees placed by the player (not on the roads) DO help with noise, but you need a lot of them for it to be noticeable! You probably don't have enough room next to that new train station at the end of the video. I've tested it a bit in my game, you also need to wait a minute for the red noise map to update after you place the trees.
28:31 the traffic coming towards the camera from this angle could probably dip into a small tunnel under the rails to connect back up at the toll booth, and thus would avoid that elevated intersection, since it seems a lot of traffic comes from that direction. Also: please consider doing a freight yard and maintenance facility in the long empty rectangle by the intercity cargo station, where you’ve got that gap between the mountain and the offices. It would be a great spot for trains to shunt cars into/out of the port (though of course no such mechanic exists but still). You could even add another freight station to relieve some of the pressure on the other one in the city.
You're the reason I bought this game, so it's always nice seeing you post a new vid of it. ETA: - The port area needs fire and police etc services. ETA2: maybe reduce road speed on that area where they are going off highway through residential and back onto highway. If the residential road is low enough that ought to maken it a less desirable route.
Last traffic problem you had is because the most left lane coming from the beginning cant easily merge (only one node I think, but because its busy, they just cant or it would be faster the other way) You can remove the traffic controller from the first node and if the problem still occurs I would slow down the through route they are taking.
Another way to change the roads at stations is to use the network multitool and unlock the segments you want to change. You should then be able to upgrade them like other roads and then you can lock them back!
28:50 I would add emergency services (fire, police). I would add a jitney bus line to serve the Port area. All would fit the area. A small plaza for the workers in the area might also be a good idea.
Name Garnet District "Vista Hill" or "Vista Hills" also, those poor people in the townhouses having the entire massive tower next to them staring into their backyards at all times :D
If you're still looking for suggestions for the hill, where the old mansions were situated: Maybe you could get inspired by the hills of Santiago de Chile. They have hills all around the city, which are big hilly parks with stones and footpaths, sometimes with old castle-ruins and a lot of different plants. Just look it up, if you could maybe like it. Great series, thank you for the content. Greetings from Germany.
I have a question: are you using the highways with the soundproof walls near the living areas? If not, that could help with the noise. Otherwise I am pretty sure that some trees help, at least that is what I experienced in my game. But I think it was only the very large trees. :)
You could build some kind of soviet/50's Francoist suburb in the outskirts of the city: Big buildings with high density and huge population, no transition needed (like in real life). It would also be an excuse to get new assets :)
james, the noise thing, you've got forests locked in tree anarchy mod, maybe that's affecting the trees' dampening effect? also, you can use tree lined roads, but set the trees to none with the road customisation mod (I forget the name), so they're only grass lined?
The whole "oh the train station/metro station/any access to public transport" is too noisy game mechanic is so dumb! As if, in real life, buildings with access to these services aren't prime real estate. And, as someone who used to live next to a LRT station and line, I can promise, it's not that big a deal.
I really like the rail lines to nowhere. If you look at American railroads there are definitely spurs that used to go to warehouses, industrial areas, grain elevators, mines, etc. which, because the industry/commercial left or they switched to shipping by truck, they now just go nowhere.
Maybe West of the mall you could use that land as some sort of rigidly planned affordable housing. Tall apartment blocks surrounding parking garages, very few amenities, maybe the community pool and a passenger station on the train line. I’m thinking a modern Pruitt Igoe
so nice to see you continue the series, the port looks awesome! will you pls develop the university more? and maybe upgrade the festival island? looking forward to the zoo and airport!
I think giving the people complaining about noise some closer clinic or hospital might work because they're considered sick and iirc ambulances take care of them.
Have you checked out Realistic Population mod? You can customize the number of people living in a building, might help boost population. PS - glad you're back, I love your style of building
35:15 I think that's a great idea and a very nice spot for the zoo. With all the pathways along the river you could add it could be a very "close to nature" zoo with stunning views, lots of free spaces between the habitats and still be very close to the downtown. :)
Great video James. Really glad to have you back in Cities Skylines. To help you avoid traffic cutting through your new district (Garnet district) unnecessarily, you can turn on the old town policy on the district. This policy allows the traffic to not go through the district, but rather stay on the highway (as it's supposed to). Just make sure that your bypass road behind the district, going to the schools, is not in the Garnet district, otherwise it will not be used as intended. I use the old town policy quite often in my cities, because it only allows residents, workers, and deliviry vehicles, delivering goods to buildings in that district, to enter the district, and dissallows cut throughs. Hope you find this helpful and keep up the great content :)
I reckon you need to do an area that is clearly government housing. A bunch of high rises that are very similar or the same that makes you go, ah yeah that's government housing alright. It'd be a good way to boost the population and it'd be something different too
I live near a station and they aren't loud because trains aren't speeding through them. A school I went to was right next to a railway (no station, just a high speed rail) Now thát was loud! Whenever a train passed the teachers just pauzed mid-sentence until it was gone, because there was no way people could hear them. I hope you can find a mod in which you can tinker with those settings for stations. This makes no sense.
I’m just the hill from the main line from Canberra to Sydney and heaps of loud freight trains will pass through the local train stations so fast it’s so scary, I always feel I have to hold onto the fence. The neighbours across the street is right beside the line and it always scares the sheep ahaha
@@lozzieelizadesigns05 that sounds insane! 😳 A freight train is not just way too load, speeding through a passenger station, but it has a suction wind as well... Should not be legal in my opinion 🤷🏻☺️
On right-hand-traffic the vehicles leave cargo-hubs the other way. they always go the direction which is the closest to the exit. so you can feed the hubs with traffic from the right and they leave to the left and both streams don't cross their ways.
Love watching this series! I have issues with BOB too, though I'm not sure it's the exact same issue, and I can always fix it by pressing alt+ctrl - it needs to be in that order. Hope this helps!
Would be cool to have different islands. One that is only a trash dump island near the port like the have in NYC. One that has modern achitectural mansions somewhere more upscale. ❤
There's a mod that cancels the effects of sound polution which to me makes sense because someone buying an apartment or house by a trainline would expect noise.
Oooh, thank You! You were the reason I started watching CS gameplay videos. Now I'm huge fan of Biffa and CPP, but I'm glad You are back with your city as well. :)
James on the workshop someone made the warehouses of unique factories into shipping containers. They even stack higher and lower depending how full the storage it. I find it excellent harbor decoration without having to plop alot of assets down myself plus it isnt static
18:50 Just a critic like that... You like up those trailers perfectly. In real life, there is absolutely nothing that is perfectly lined up. Lining them up might look good, but it makes that location feel much more artificial.
for the cargo train station at 22mins ... perhaps consider an outbound connection directly onto the highway instead of off of it. this would allow you to make the other intersection (where you mention traffic lights) a left hand turn only.
Keep rail line near projected zoo area on it's current trajectory, only curving after 2nd river crossing; use the land area defined by railbed and river arc for a passenger station & zoo entrance.
If they complain about noise they will go to the doctor over and over and then they will die of noise so its a good idea to plan for that when building. Yes its annoying. And yes all trees count to lessen noise but you will need a lot of them but buildings dont block sound for some reason.
Maybe put some health care by that train station and residences? It would help with the land value as well as mitigating some of the health issues caused by the noise pollution.
20:27 that's actually not that steep; for a diesel locomotive it might be, for a steam locomotive it totally is I guess. But it doesn't look like a slope that a train can't handle.
You really should add some light houses along the cost near the port, and just unlock all the tiles manually so you can be more free to make this city even more beautiful
