Check out my web site at www.Simplecopter.com
Here is a list of the current parts i am using for my builds. this may be different than the parts used on this build video. i am always trying to improve as we all should.
you will need to copy and paste some of the links. sorry
ESC’s (electric speed controller)
www.buddyrc.com...
Control board KK2.1
www.buddyrc.com...
3.5mm bullets
1 pack to connect the esc’s to the motors for crash break away. Buddyrc also has them
(For Vtail)

for Tri and T copter)
www.simplecopte...
Props
Buddyrc USA based
counter clockwise
www.buddyrc.com...
clockwise
www.buddyrc.com...
10x5 use with 1400kv on 3 cell only or 980kv on 3 or 4 cell ( these are more efficient but not as snappy for aerobatics. They are very good in the wind)
www.buddyrc.com...
Motors
High end (at least for me) sorry these are hard to get. I have made these very popular.
Sunnysky 2212 1400kv use 8x4.5 prop on 3 or 4 cell or 10x5 on 3 cell.
USA dealer when he has them www.buddyrc.com...
Ebay also has them
www.ebay.com/it...
Sunnysky 2212 980kv use 10x5 with 4 cell pack. These give 10 to 15% more flight time with slightly reduced power. They have enough power to fly on 3 cell but if loaded with fpv gear then use 4 cell.
www.buddyrc.com...
servo if you need (not needed for the Vtail)
Cheap servo if you are on a budget
www.hobbyking.c...
More heavy duty servo
Hitec HS82MG
www.servocity.c...
KK2 control board vibration pads
www.simplecopte...
Motor and servo pads
www.simplecopte...
zip ties
www.simplecopte...
www.simplecopte...
5 Male to male servo connectors to hook receiver to board
www.simplecopte...
for Vtail you will need 1 foot of red and black 14 gauge wire and 9 feet of 18 gauge wire for esc extension. For tri and t copter the same but 7 feet of 18 gauge is fine.
As far as batteries go i like the hobbyking compact zippy.
And the Glacier batteries from Buddyrc

It's probably worth mentioning that this frame is a David Windestål (of FliteTest) design.

the frame in this video is an enlarged version of Davids frame with my own simple yaw design. the frame i sell is different then the one in this video. I should have given David credit as we all should for cumming up with this great layout. The guy kept me in the hobby and i owe him allot. I got a chance to meet him at SEFF and we had a good time.

I REALLY need your help. I built one up w OPTO escs and all seems to power up but ONLY when UBEC is wired straight to my orangerx which powers up the kk board but NO servo movement at all UNLESS i hook up a 6.6v Receiver lipo to the M5 input, if i just wire the 5v UBEC to that input NOTHING POWERS UP

I want to build something usable for FPV and video work that is inexpensive. Everyone seems to have their own ideas but so far I like this one the best. I have a Blade 350QX that goes crazy on me sometimes even with the shielding around the camera. Horizon Hobby should recall all these because they advertised it as being GoPro compatible and it isn't. It's clear the 350QX isn't going to do what I want to do. Besides I would like to understand how to build one, fix or modify to do what I want to do.

Hi, just saw ur video, very nice. I was just wondering can you build me one of these cool machines, and everything you need to fly. How much would it cost for everything you need, including the remote? Just a rough estimate of how much you think will cost to build one. Thank you.

Excellent tutorial, easy to follow. I like tricopters more than quad and other copters - it behave more like airplanes, except less sensitive to the wind which bouncing plane arround. I have plan for the future: thicopter, delta wing, and collective pitch 3D/4D parkflyers (similar like 'normal' plane, but with props acting more like helicopters). Your video is an inspiration to me. Thank you for posting it. Cheers.

Hi Chuck. Your videos are really awesome. If someone wants to purchase one already made how do they do that? I know there's a lot of different models and prices, but can you give a range on what they cost if they're prebuilt? Thanks
@MrLazer1211
@MrLazer1211 10 лет назад
@RP- Yes and no, you can build a quad without the KK2, but not a simple one, the reason for using the KK2 board in almost every single multiroater build is because it has all the gyros and goodies built in, you can use a normal board, but you will have to edit it using your computer, with the KK2 you can edit right there on the board with no need to hook it up. And an every day flight board will require external gyros to be hooked up to it ultimately adding more weight and complexity to the multiroter setup.

Also I think I am going to try the CC3D open source board. And on the Servo I am just not sure on the Digital vs the Analog I do not know the correct one to get. What way does the Tail servo have to travel say to rotate the tri CW I might have missed that part of the video. So if i am in back of the Tri. and want the Tri to rotate clock wise does the serve tilt right or left. Keep flying and what a nice Tri CFI

Figured out, current comes from ESCs data-V-ground cables. Then current goes from board to receiver... I use a X9 and it is different, no names only channel numbers. I have a quad so calibration is different. But thanks for the binding auto level calibration tutorial for KK2. I wonder what you press in transmitter to disable level...
@alexecheverria

Is the board connected to battery? Does the receiver have cable to battery? I missed that part or I dont find it. Please tell me how those two boards receive electricity to work and how many volts. As I see you are using a 16V lipo and receiver and controller need around 5V I am not able to figure it out. Thanks.

To fix the "Wire stress" on the motors you can simply take some quick set epoxy and cover where the wires are hooked to the motor with it. It will remove all the moment of the connections.

Hi, I have watched this build quite a few times particularly with regards to the controller board setup.I have done everything correctly including checking that all motors and servo work with the Corona Rx (Futaba 6E) Problem: I show no voltage on the opening screen. There is a place in your vid where you say something like 'if I now hook this up and my cable is long enough I should get voltage'. What did you hook up as I assume that you were programming the board with the battery connected? thx

First choice by default... Redbrick 30A ESC's that may not flash. And they are slow off the shelf. So your choice of ESC is important for sure and should be considered and researched. I ordered these cause the much praised Turnigy Plush 30A were BO'd and I didn't know any better at the time. And little did I realize that they were beginning to ship the Redbrick 30's with the reset circuit of the MCU (Micro Controller) disabled so that they may not be flashed. Rather counter productive.

Every tiem i give just a little throttle it wants to flip over on its top Ive had mine together with the kk2 board runnin 1.5 but i cant get the damn thing to lift. Motors are in the correct m slot and all running CCW (same props all around). Its just one side seems to want to give more power than to the other. IDK maybe its a bad transmitter. Im just really at a loss. I cant seem to get it to run like yers. sad day 2 weekends gone unable to fly. :(

I do have one lingering question though Matt,In the "motor lay out menu" and you pick Tricopter, does the KK2.0 board do the Clockwise motor reversal for front left and rear motors (as I am assuming the default rotation is C.C.W.) And then all you have to do is put the correct type of prop on each outrunner, or is there some other way to do this that I haven't yet conceived of? This is the 3rd time I have come back for a look while I wait on parts and talk it up on forums,

airplane (acromode) vs heli mode Good Question. different terms, for the different modes. lots of pages turned to refer to which is which ie dx6I. A rep fromHK, did a tutorial on KK2 set up and he mentioned 'go with' airplane mode . You said you got a decent hover.in airplane 'acro' mode. MHall, didn,t mention either mode, and I don.t think the guys @ Flite Test did either. will go into my KK2 Ver 1.2, change settings, I might as well change it to Heli mode terminology mite be easier

First off all thanks Matt for the great video you made on assembling the tricopter. Your video was a big help. I made the frame myself, with a dremel, (I'm from the Netherlands, you don't ship there) and it worked perfectly. The tricopter is flying great. I have to get some more skill in flying but that will come in time. I have only one question. The outermost tie-wraps on the motors, break at the slightest bump. Do you use a special kind of tie-wraps? Or is there something i'm missing?

The rudder setting on Channel 4 is due to having the servo positioned reversed. It isn't to do with analog versus digital, although that's a good guess. You can either set it to -100 as you did, or just switch your servo to channel 5, which in Tricopter configuration is the rudder channel (4) reversed.

I think Matt is using 8 or 9 inch dia. blades. He also sells them at his e-store. You may have to adjust the pitch and or diameter of blade to suit the kV of the motor. I am using 10 x 4.5 but with a 750 kV , whereas Matt uses 1300kV with the smaller props for his build. Hope this helps you out

I see your using version 1.5 on KK2 board. (frame # 33.05) You had to flash that into the board sometime. That new version makes for better gyros is what I've been reading. What are your comments on that? Very good video too.

The tail servo gets power directly from the KK2 board. The KK2 board is powered from the 5v BEC of the ESC plugged into the first motor output. The other motor outputs can also be hooked up to their ESCs BECs, but they're not necessary.

Man, your multirotor builds are awesome! I've built your Tricopter 2.0. It's freakin sweet! my only issue is that my low voltage alarm is not sounding when it should. I got the KK2.1 board from you and it's wired up good and all. reads the voltage too. Set it to 108. 10.8 volts. 3s 2200mAh. But it just drops after like 6 minutes of (hard) flying. No warning! when I put the battery on the charger, it shows about 3.3 volts per cell. Quite a bit lower than it should be from what I understand. It seems strange that I hear no beeping of any kind leading up to the power cut. I'm pretty new to the hobby and would appreciate any help. Thanks dude!

That was two months ago! I have already built and mastered tricopter flight (sort of ). Mine is made with a completely different yaw mech. But its good of you to share. :-)

You're awesome, thank you for the detail video on the build. I'm new to hobby. Would you please make a detail video on how you set up your dx transmitter. Thank you.

ESC calibration is a pain.. you need three hands to plug up the wires while holding the buttons on the board...its not easy to plug in then hit the buttons fast enough... an easy answer is to make up a switch lead.. hold down the board buttons with one hand and work the switch with the other..

Try using a heavy duty battery switch rather than trying to catch the window of time allotted. I've switched my power to ESC and my flight control independently. That way you can power up one or the other separately if needed and it makes the response time more manageable for ESC calibration.

Thank you for making the KK2 more understandable! I`ve been trying to get my head around the setting and tuning aspect of it, this made me understand it a lot more. Built my tricopter a week ago and have flown it, but that was with analog setting instead of digital (I have digital) Hope this change will make it fly better. THANK YOU!

Dang, I wish I could paint like that. The house needs it.

You should have to solder a JST connection to the appropriate spots on the KK2 and then use the method he has on this vid to tap into the wires to the battery.

Zip tie Gun, Economy model 18 - 50 lbs. It tightens and cuts off the trim $15 - 20. Makes a nice job of it. Try cabletiesandmore in the U.S.A. and Canada
