That’s genuinely stunning work, I suppose the only other aspect it needs is a few figures. It’s amazing how 3D printing and laser cutting is doing away with so much of the need to scratchbuild, having to make those windows and other intricate pieces by hand would have prevented a lot of people from even attempting something like this. It’s a piece of art.
@smolworldworkshop
@smolworldworkshop 5 дней назад
Thank you for your kind words, and I totally agree about laser cutting and 3D printing! While I love a good scratch build, the repetitive details would have been an inefficient use of time in my opinion. These tools allow makers to design and produce kit quality parts which is why I enjoy using them. Thanks again for the support and for watching!

this is awesome, sooo big :P but nice result :D i looking forward to smaller projects in future too! those small how to build a thing is super helpfull :D im doing H0 1:87 but many of the techniques can be scaled down with a few modifications :D keep up the good work! :D you weathering and painting making things look real are spot on! :D

Incredible detail, all i can say, is I would not have wanted to be part of the crew of tiny workers responsible for installing that huge plate glass transom in the bank. I bet they all breathed a collective sigh of relief when it was in place for sure ;)

Thank you very much! And yes that part really stressed out the mini workers, but they were super relieved when it was finished!

Brilliant job! The realism is amazing! If I may, I would like to share some thoughts: 1) The filler covering the 45-degree angles of the building panels may crack over time due to material stretching and shrinking with air humidity. An alternating pattern (in and out) with boards cut at 90 degrees-where the material thickness matches the depth of the bricks-could offer more durability. This design would position the gaps between the bricks, covered by filler, resulting in stronger panel connections and hiding any potential cracking. 2) The windows are pristine, and the night scenes resemble an Edward Hopper painting. However, the uniform brightness of the windows suggests they were all cleaned simultaneously. I wonder if adding some dust to certain windows, papers stuck on some panes, or other window details could enhance realism even further. Thin acrylic glass tends to warp over time. Ultra-thin float glass is superior but adds considerably to costs. This diorama is so fantastic, it deserves further detailing. Looking forward to seeing more work on this channel!

Thank you very much for your kind words! I’ll keep an eye out for any cracking at the seams, and I’ll consider butting up the walls in the future. I like your idea about weathering the glass, I’ll definitely have to practice doing so as I’m not exactly sure the best way to do it. Maybe with matte varnish? Thanks again for all your support, and I’m looking forward to making more videos for you!

This was such an awesome and inspiring build! I’m almost tempted to it myself (except for a lack of space.) The one mistake I see is that the letter box should face the buildings - not the steet. Great job, though!

great build! I always wanted to get into dioramas, having a maker space that can laser print you designs are great, wish I had that by me! As for curling while printing, what are the orientation angle are you printing the flat pieces? usually printing them short side straight up, or at a slight 10-15 degree angle with supports on the back helps with the curling a bit. it doesn't eliminate it completely, but usually printing at a 45 degree angle is good practice for most objects, longer pieces are better printed at a slight angle. it reduces the pull of the FEP during printing. also, try the hot water method when removing supports, it usually helps with the really bad nub marks on the prints

Thank you very much! I hope a Makerspace with a laser opens up near you soon! Recently I’ve been printing my thin flat pieces at a 45 degree angle. I find that it prints well, but then it starts to warp the moment I remove it from the supports, and then it warps even more with a post cure. I’m thinking of maybe weighing down the piece while it’s post curing by putting a flat piece of glass over the print, but I’m not sure if that would work. Also that’s an amazing tip about the warm water! Thanks for sharing, and thanks for watching the video!!

Stunning, impressive and tedious. How about adding a touch of road dirt to the delivery truck? Because I'm sure there were lots of dirt roads in the 1930s.

It's such a joy watching your video's, thank you so much! It is very inspiring. I was wondering: maybe you could 3D-print the chairs in separate (more or less flat) parts and glue them together after printing. Maybe they need less support structures that way? It might save you some time.
@smolworldworkshop
@smolworldworkshop 13 дней назад
Thank you very much! I think that could definitely work! The only thing preventing me from printing flat at the moment is I don’t have a flexible build plate. I’m thinking of buying one soon because it should save lots of time. Thanks for the suggestion, and thanks for watching!!
