Well, I went and stepped into it this time. I am building the Voron 2.4. This build is not for those new to the hobby but rather it is for intermediate to experienced builders. This build is going to take a while to complete and I am going to take you along for the journey. Links to the Voron web page and github are listed below.

@@ironartur I did not know that and I did not mean any disrespect but I guess the part about not being able to buy it went over my head ..there are kits out there to build it so wouldn't it be cost effective to go that route rather than source all the parts individually? I know these days most 3D printers only require a few bolts to put together but my first printer came in a box full of parts that took a day to put together and weeks worth of tuning to get it to print right.
@ironartur

@@geterdnboy Actually they don´t recommend the kits because you don´t know what are you getting on those kits, one week they came with ok motors and the next week with no-brand motors, or crappy SSR or unusable plate....
@mr_voron
@mr_voron 3 года назад
@@geterdnboy no disrespect taken and yes, technically you can buy a kit. But as they aren’t official you’re kind of rolling the dice on those. It’s still slightly cheaper than individually sourcing parts, but you’ll end up replacing some parts during the build so it’s a wash.

The drilling and the tapping may be "boring" but super important to a proper build! Everyone is not experiencing at either drilling or tapping!

With how critical squareness is to building a 3d printer, and especially one of these, I wonder why right angle gussets with holes for machine screws into T nuts aren't far more prevalent. Just put everything together with maybe a 1/4 turn of slop, start going around and gently tightening everything, and watch it self align to within a few milliradians. As long as the frame members' lengths are accurate you'll be golden.

Thank you for the excellent presentation. Your patience and attention to detail is refreshing compared to hosts of some other VORON build channels. Hope you don’t mind several comments. I have a VORON 2.4 frame in transit from Printed Solid in the US. They are a reputable VORON parts supplier recognized in the VORON community. [Note: Join the VORON Discord channel before deciding to build a VORON. You should be an experienced builder.] Unless you have good machinist stills and proper tools such as this host, I do not recommend drilling and tapping your frame, or cutting from stock extrusion. Instead buy a frame pre-cut, drilled and tapped. Don’t feel you have to buy Misumi frame extrusion directly from them. There are complete frame kits available in a variety of colors from several other respectable companies, like LDO. Do try and stay away from some Aliexpress frames and complete kits where the extrusions might not meet spec with poor machining. Always make sure each extrusion is flat and straight irrespective of the source. Some are not. Square Alignment. You're the first VORON frame builder focusing on the critical need to align and square the frame; even from noted experienced VORON builders. Errors in alignment of components, and sub-assemblies are cumulative. That is, the sum of the errors of all the assemblies makes it near to impossible to troubleshoot problems later. Square. Be meticulous. Square, relax, and come back later to square again until as precise as possible. No rush. This is the baseline alignment for your complete build. Rather than using a carpenters square, it's best to use a heavy machinist square built to industry “accuracy” specification working with metal, along with good clamps. Carpenter and other squares used for construction and DIY do not guarantee accuracy to this level and could be slightly off. There are videos on RU-vid teaching you how to square your square because it's such an issue. Better yet, just buy one as part of your project build budget. Don’t skimp. As noted, assemble on as perfectly of a flat surface you can find, such as a kitchen counter top. I found out on previous frame builds that even using a sheet of 3/4” plywood does not guarantee accuracy, or even a random table top. It's more difficult to find a reliably accurate flat surface in your home than you would expect. If you've never built a 3DP from parts before with limited instructions and advice form hobbyists who are not experts, do not build a VORON. There are no approved build kits. Instead begin with a PRUSA MK3 where you get superb instructions and EXPERTS are there to help you. Experience assembling Chinese printers out of the box does not quality you. Finally. For those who entered 3DP from the world of the Chinese printer community with little exposure outside of these printers and their RU-vid user channels, please research and study the history and philosophy of the 3DP RepRap and open source movement for which you're moving into if deciding to build a VORON. It's great and helpful background.

good video. Is it normal for the frame to have a slight baby wobble? When I have it on my table a certain way it wobbles slightly but I have not been able to get it more perfect than this after spending HOURS trying to, just wondering if this is normal

I have always checked for the squareness on the inside of my build..... I don't have the best way to cut my extruded rails so if my cut is not totally square then it will mess up the inside.... have you checked the squareness on the inside of this or just the evenness on the outside. I haven't cut my extruded rails yet that's why I ask because the way you show it now has me confused. I'm starting this build as well and would like to follow along with you. Also, I ordered the 2020 extrusions and the 3030 enough to build the printer which one do you think I should use? When I started planing this build I started down the path of the HevORT guy and it looked like he was using 3030's so that's what I ordered but then further into my research I found the Voron 2.4 and fell in love with the build guide LOL. That's why I'm in this mess now.

@@jrh2023 Thanks, but I have a (cheap) printer already and spend more time upgrading it than I do actually printing stuff with it. I'm looking for a from-scratch build. I wondered why the Voron was a bad choice for newbies, and what DIY build overcomes that barrier.
@davehudgens6680
@davehudgens6680 3 года назад
I think it has to do with comfort level. If you are not comfortable doing a build from scratch, then no DIY build is appropriate for you. Now, if you are an electrical engineer, you have only being printing for a month, but you think you would like to tackle a diy build, then by all means, have at it.

There are variants of hypercube designs which can't be bought either -- kits for these community projects are available, but fyi, I built/designed a quad independent extruder 600mm cubed box monster -- can't buy that either, a 6' delta with a flying extruder and a high flow mosquito nozzle, and no it's not for sale either. Good to see vorons becoming more popular though
