I'm definitely missing something, an engineer who has never used a hammer came up with this silliness...

Why not just extrude the plastic channel out of aluminum or steel and eliminate the adding the metal tape step. Would seem the cost difference would be made up in the labor savings.

Thinking the same thing, especially considering that the PVC "H" channel isn't fireproof... If the termites can burrow through the ICF, it's very optimistic that "you're going to force them to the outside". Termites never expose themselves...

Is there a reason this entire flange couldn’t be made out of SS, to avoid multiple pieces, backings, and adhesives?

So, termites can eat through the first row of blocks and will be stopped only at the second one???

States that it comes with a pair of gloves and then proceeds to put on a different pair. lol

It’s an interesting product. I find the risk of cutting the steel is very high when trying to remove the backing. Perhaps the backing could come with a perforated rip line. It would also eliminate one step

I don't see the point of this. If one PROPERLY waterproofs and seals the foam and footer junction for an ICF basement, bugs will be kept out. Plus, there is nothing there for them to eat so I dunno what would attract them to the ICF in the first place: no wood...no food.

The problem is that the termites don't eat the icf block therefore they don't leave mud trails so you can't see any evidence or signs that they are there . I agree properly sealing everything is the way to go and maybe treating the area around the foundation ,but that will only last so long .

seems way to finicky to me and to many chances of throwing the blocks out of level. I would rather just cut out a channel near grade and fill with mortar to provide an inspection area to look for those little suckers. Best combo it ICF and metal stud framing and eliminating any food source from the start. But I know that's not always cost effective for some.

Agree totally with Brian, idiotic to make this in plastic, just make it in aluminum or steel if necessary. What a waste of time.

Definitely too complex a product. It would be much better to have a special build block with the termite barrier built in. It would of course have to provide methods to join blocks side to side and extend out to the finished surface. Ideally such that the blocking metal can be trimmed after the final surface is in place. So that any differences in the final surface depth are dealt with.

No crew has the time to do this for an entire foundation. This is extremely labor intensive and not a good overall designed product. Wrap the underslab and outside perimeter walls with a continous termite protection product made by companies such as Stego Industries.
