First video of 2022 and i hope you enjoy it. Now my Aussie mate Adam from PROSEW sent me over a heap of sewing machine frames for me to melt down . I was pretty surprised about just how much Aluminum came from each frame. I also show a quick re-coating of my furnace and do a small Copper melt from a sewing machine transformer as well . So sit back and relax on another extended video. I have nearly 340 vids now so if your bored you know what to do😉.

HOW TO MIRROR FINISH A BAR
I start with an 80 grit flap disc on my angle grinder then I use my drill with 50 mm round sanding discs . I start with 150 grit then go through the following Grits 240-400-800 Then once I get to the following Grits I use a small squirt of WD-40 1200-1500-2000-2500-3000. The WD40 helps to lubricate the discs and stops the sanding disk binding up with the metal powder . Then after that I use my buffer wheel on my bench grinder to get a perfect mirrored finish on it.

@@bigstackD Thank you for the video. Is it really as bad as it is portrayed in the news with the government cracking down on all of you guys over the cuff? I hope things are going to calm down this year. I did some melting here in Mexico of a Toyota gasoline engine and am going to get some pieces turned at a machine shop so I can make a lathe to do some other tools to start making UTV's. You're an inspiration. Thanks for the tips and all the details.

8:00 Very important to know that the coating can take forever to dry in unfavorable locations. mine stood in my garage for 3 days at around 10°c and it was literally still liquid. still took over a week in my basement to dry and the leftover mixture in the garage still has the same consistency as if i had just mixed it (now around 2 weeks old). so watch out guys and dont loose as much time as i did lol. Also im doing my first melt today so wish me luck boys

Crazy how I came to watch this video because my husband was weirdly watching bowling this afternoon and a friend commented that he watches a guy meltdown scrap metal and make ingots and that it's metal AF. 🤘😛🤘 Of course I had to investigate after that review, LOL. I have to say, you're a man after my own heart! I was hooked as soon as you smashed the sewing machine and said there's probably copper in there. I got as excited as you! 😆 The fact that you recycle, melt metal, and cook (nice shank btw 🤤) tells me your wife is lucky lady. Good thing too or she'd have your head on a plate like your lunch for melting her sewing machine.😆😂🤣 Salud!🍻

I wish the cast had been melted individually so we can see which one was the purest. There seem to be a lot of slag which I guess is to be expected I was just wondering which casting produced the most considering each one was done in a different country
@bigstackD
@bigstackD 2 года назад
Actually Matey I kept all the ingots separately after I had cast them and that little tiny ingot at the end was just a mixture of the leftover slags that I extracted some more aluminium from. After looking very closely at each one and comparing them to each other considering they were cast in different parts of the planet they were pretty much indistinguishable from each other. They cleaned up exactly the same they looked exactly the same and there cm3 weight was exactly the same so I’m assuming there’s a universal sewing machine alloy that all the countries use👍🏻. I used the water displacement measurement to make sure all three aluminium alloys were the exact same but I didn’t film any of that as I’ve tried to keep the video under half an hour. I didn’t think anyone would really be that interested but I’ll definitely include it next time I do something like this👍🏻😁

This is a nice point. Also, BigStackD checking on the properties of the metals was pretty cool! Please include this part on the next videos! Btw, I was wondering what is the slag made of in general? It is part aluminium, but what are the other things? Paint? Dirt? It looked very foamy when first scooped, but then it became harder and more brittle after the second round in the furnace.
@JasperJanssen
@JasperJanssen 2 года назад
Aluminum slag looks like it’s almost all aluminium oxide, which forms more or less equally whenever aluminium meets oxygen. Not really anything to do with purity of alloys.

I've worked at a clothing manufacturer who makes those U.S. military fleece jackets. Many thousands of soft, fuzzy, handsome jackets in the world today have my grubby fingerprints on them. We used Juki machines almost exclusively. Hammering sewing machines to bits and melting them to puddles is a concept near and dear to me. 😂
