Join Uncle Stonnie for a fun dog training session with Boone, a fun little Bulldog puppy. If you want to be specific Boone is actually what is commonly referred to as an Olde English Double Bully because he's a cross between and English Bulldog and an American Bulldog. He's quite the character, that's for sure!
We are far from experts on the various Bulldog crosses so feel free to share what you know in the comments section!

Are you a fan of my training style, but can’t travel to Kentucky to see me in person? No worries! I offer an awesome online dog training course, which includes access to an array of exclusive videos and content, personalized coaching, journaling, and in-depth mentoring and evaluation by yours truly! Both of these great services can be found here: www.kentuckycanine.com Thank you all for your remarkable support over the years! I cannot express enough how grateful I am for your appreciation and patronage of this channel, my training style, and my kennel. Always remember, it’s a great day for a puppy-sized adventure!

Most dog trainers wouldn't dare put up a video where the dog isn't behaving perfectly. This takes such confidence and competence to do. Your videos are inspiring because they're not all about you and how great you are, but they're about the dogs, and they're about us the audience! and how we can adopt your methods and mindset to become better trainers for our dogs. Really well done Stonnie, you're in a category of one when it comes to dog trainers on the internet.

I've owned 3 English Bulldogs, and you nailed it as far as their personalities goes. Took each of them through dog obedience training and like you said, they do thinks at their own speed. When teaching them how to retrieve a bone, the instructor had a 4x8 sheet of plywood with several bones tied down and the one with our sent on one that wasn't tied down. Said the dog would get used to learning the one that could be retrieved had our sent. Well the bulldog would grab a tied down one, get off the 4x8 plywood and drag the plywood and bone over to you. He decided which one he wanted. We realized the ties were too long and had to keep them short enough so he couldn't drag the plywood.

Nothing helps get through a bout of covid than binging your videos. and today i had a bonus with “ Boone “. We have bullies - pitties, alapaha ‘s , and american. You reminded me that it’s ok to not to have an obedience ring pet that still can be the best they can be. Also the German shepherd pup that’s fearful - we are dealing with a blue pit now that is showing all the same signs. but working through it - exactly as you suggest. THANK YOU ! something positive came out of being under the weather.

You don’t need any equipment, I just have all that stuff because I have to do a ton of dogs every day and the equipment allows me to build basic skills before I take the dogs on adventures. With only one dog your whole training regimen should be built around getting out in the real world and going on puppy sized adventures!

Lol where were you when I got my American bulldog? She was a year old, accidentally pregnant and not sure she'd been treated 100% right her early life. Literally would take her out on a leash to go to the bathroom and she wouldn't go. We would walk and walk until she got tired of it then she would lay down and refuse to walk. I'd just drag her across the grass lol. With her, it was a trust thing. Bulldogs are stubborn and they have to trust you to listen. Calm is better with bulldogs

Stonnie, how do you prevent the "yo-yo effect" from developing ?
@dorkatomankova5132
@dorkatomankova5132 Год назад
Once the gets to you, increase the level of engagement. You can use food or toy rewards and reward your dog for looking at you and engaging with you. Also use variable amount of reinfircement to keep yourself less predictable. If your dog never knows when the rewards stop he will stick around longer just in case. If you always give one treat or play one little game of tug, they will soon figure out that they have a moment to spare until the next cue and reward comes their way and check out on you. Once you have a solid engagement from your dog you should be able to teach him to disengage from you on a cue. Good luck with your pup

If he is the sort of American bulldog i imagine, that puppy will be a brick house in a year. When should owners start teaching loose leash walking and not pulling, please? As u showed, he loves to just get going... Do you teach loose leash / no pulling walks before or after - or same time as - the recall work? How old is he here by the way? Thank u!
@StonnieDennis
@StonnieDennis Год назад
All owners are always trying to encourage loose leash walking, no? Did you notice what percentage of the time the Leah was slack during the video?
@NA-su3jk
@NA-su3jk Год назад
Yes, i noticed that. But my questions stand if u feel like replying some more? Its ok not mad at you.... otherwise i am left to assume its not important to focus on loose leash walking, but to just encourage it while teaching other things? It may be more complicated, depends on the dog, whatever... but these were my sincere questions above, esp for a powerful willful breed.... cause uknow he will pull like the dickens if left to own preferences.
@zoeen5650
@zoeen5650 Год назад
@@NA-su3jk when Stonnie does his small challenges course it's simultaneously encouraging loose leash, handler awareness and pace control. He has mentioned it in other videos where he's encouraging the dog to be aware of his speed and changes his pace up so the dog has to speed up or slow down on the course to stay next to him. Boone doesn't look like he stable enough and has enough self awareness to be confident on all the obstacles so I imagine Stonnie won't introduce dramatic pace changes or expect too much handler awareness until the pup is completing the course confidently. But just through repetition and shared activities that awareness will be growing naturally.

I'll probably never understand the use of clicker. I mean I know the theory but it doesn't make much sense to me, "good boy" does the job as a marker, dog is already waiting for the treat when he hears it.
@StonnieDennis
@StonnieDennis Год назад
It’s one of those things where you just have to try it for yourself to really understand. From a utility per unit of labor invested standpoint the clicker wins every time. Spoken words cannot match the effectiveness of a noise generator in terms of consistently relaying information in a clear and consistent manner.

@@keithfaulk1354 I agree. Think of this guy’s actual name “Stonnie”. Just saying that sometimes we have to consider how other’s view things. He sees nothing wrong with “dude” or “Stonnie”. Personally I wouldn’t call anyone either. I think he was quite harsh on you that you are driving creators away from social media, an over exaggeration. Everyone does need to consider the other’s point of view though. This entire video hit a lot of nerves because he didn’t have enough info on the case he was discussing even though he was using it as a spring board to discuss dogs “turning” and as I said in my main comment, he did not even mention dogs fighting one another leading to attacking humans in those moments. Humans cannot reach into dogs if they are fighting. As far as I can find there is nothing more on this event that has been publicly shared. This is not a good sign as people need to be open about a dog killing a human. Oh, and as a consideration on dude, many men love the term “dude ranch”, it’s just another perspective.
