Really great review and I agree with everything you said. I have the exact same setup and I just received the adjustable roller but I have not worked out with it yet. I did try it out though and it seemed to make leg extensions/curls even better. I have pre-ordered the metal pop-pins. I will say that I am very happy with the unit and would buy again. Very thorough review Kurt. I can tell you really took your time to use the Isolator in actual training before doing your review. I've had mine for some time and have yet to do a review on it. It's a lot to cover lol. I did some initial thoughts and showcased some of It's capabilities but kinda got burnt out on it. The solo stand is intriguing. Great video bro!

Hey man, as usual you always on point with the reviews. I have the isolator and the tri post. I enjoy the versatility and mainly use it for legs and curls. The curls make even 45lbs very challenging. Excellent Review! I love your very honest opinions for the Isolator! I see the large pad is very wobbly when you doing the leg extension exercise, you said the functionality works but for the design, do you prefer the pad to be more “stable” and “locked down”? How do you store all your Isolator attachments? As there are so many of them!!! I know there is an attachment holder coming out soon but I feel if the attachment can be put using our existing 1” holes than need to purchase another attachment, then it will be lovely. How’s the Isolator compare to your Goat Attachment? I have not pull the trigger yet because I am still thinking about the “wobbly” movement and no handles on the seat pad. I also agree to use the “knurled” handle attachment, maybe Stainless and Volcano knurling.
@TheKurtlocker
@TheKurtlocker 7 месяцев назад
Although it does shift a bit, I find I don’t mind the movement. If they could reduce it I think it would be great, but I don’t see how they would do it. I store my attachments on the top of my mass storage unit. I saw BPs tease for a storage unit and will likely get one to mount on my French cleat wall. As for comparison to the goat, now that I have the solo stand as a permanent isolator stand, I prefer the isolator. I was not a fan of the isolator on the rack because of how large it was and how it destroyed the functionality of my lever arms.
@Mikestuh
@Mikestuh 7 месяцев назад
You could place a bench up against the seat pad to reduce movement by quite a bit. It does not bother me though. I store all of my isolator attachments, EZ Curl Bar, and BC Thruster pad in a rep fitness 9 bar holder. (Best solution I've found) I think it works better then the Bulletproof storage solution that's coming out. Minimal floor space. The only thing better would be mounting them on a wall storage but that would take up lots of wall space.
@TheKurtlocker

Would be interesting of the stand alone unit with something like a bells of steel tower behind it. Using a gym pit belt squat attachment you could hook the tower to the isolator and now you have it as a Swiss Army knife cable machine

bro cool video and great review. I just got my isolator 3 days ago and was thinking if I could mount it in between uprights and hook it to my rhino? If I am able to do this I probably wont be able to use the bench for other exercises so I am thinking one or the other??

@djbakasan
@djbakasan 7 месяцев назад
Huh. I wonder if Bulletproof updated the design at some point. My simple hexport sleeve, the one that is placed onto the lever arm and where you would attach things like the curl arm or the leg roller, is a lot simpler. It doesn’t have the added tensioner knobs on it, only the two larger pop pins-one to keep it secured onto the lever arm, the other to secure whatever attachment you have inside the hexport. Great review and overview of the Isolator though. Agree with the various downsides and quibbles, but ultimately, it’s still been such a valuable piece to add to my setup. The addition of the solo stand 10x’d its usefulness as it made me more likely to program certain movements in, as I now have a dedicated place that won’t interfere with anything I’m doing in my main rack. I really wish I could remove the extra arm (where you have the short leg roller), as I do bump into it all the damn time, but the part seems to be welded on pretty damn good.
@TheKurtlocker
@TheKurtlocker 7 месяцев назад
Mine is removed for now. I only added it back on for the review. It was 4 set screws and a bolt to get it off and it all holds together fine without it
@djbakasan
@djbakasan 7 месяцев назад
@@TheKurtlockerUnfortunately that bolt is completely seized up on me, I swear it feels like it’s welded in. Nut at the end along with/ the set screws came out no problem. So I have a slightly wiggly post protruding out, right at hip height for me to hip check it at least once a week.

Hey Kurt does the solo stand BASE gets in the way of the bench for leg extensions and leg curls and other exercises where the bench needs to be used? and how do you like it? I have some short rhino uprights, the legs and two 17" crossmembers to build something to mount isolator, however I have no more wall space to do that so I been really thinking about getting the solo stand to mount it there. It looks like it does not takes much space ether. I know it folds but I would never fold it to be honest.
@TheKurtlocker
@TheKurtlocker 6 месяцев назад
I use some small stall mat cutoffs to space my bench base to allow me to use it with my bench.
@DaveSchneider7
@DaveSchneider7 7 месяцев назад
Great review! As an owner of both items, how would you compare the Isolator to lever arms? Kind of seems like they would fill the same role in a home gym. Also, I imagine the Isolator would only really feel good for movements that rotate in a semi circle around a fixed point (e.g. curls) and while it *can* be used for straight line movements like hip thrusts or lat pulldowns, it probably wouldn’t feel as good. Do you like it for any non-rotation-based lifts?
@TheKurtlocker
@TheKurtlocker 7 месяцев назад
I prefer the isolator for semi circle movements as you stated. Leg extensions, prone leg curls, bicep curls, etc. for movements like hip thrusts it works okay but I prefer to just use a barbell over using the isolator. If you set up the carriage high enough for lat pulldowns it feels good enough but I prefer my UPS.
@DaveSchneider7
@DaveSchneider7 7 месяцев назад
@@TheKurtlocker what about Isolator vs Lever arms?
@TheKurtlocker
@TheKurtlocker 7 месяцев назад
@DaveSchneider7 the isolator is better at isolating a single joint ie curls, leg extensions… Lever arms are more of a way to either mimic machine based movements such as chest press, rows etc. these are still compound movements. In my opinion they do very different things. The fact that they hinge is the only thing they have in common. Additionally, the isolator can easily be selectorized to change the loaded arc of a movement where the lever arms do not have that ability.
@DaveSchneider7
@DaveSchneider7 7 месяцев назад
@@TheKurtlocker that is extremely interesting. Maybe a future video idea, exploring the difference in how you use the two platforms, weighing the pros and cons of each through the lens of actually working out? You’d definitely be the only content creator I’m aware of comparing those two things

I designed and built this concept in 1991 but with a weight stack. It’s part of an overall home gym machine that in my opinion blows away anything out there today I gotta be honest there’s so many things he could’ve done better.
